Exobiology Rank Reset?

That's the way it is now. They did a full rank reset, but they don't show it to you. Now your progress is just stuck at zero until your "virtual" rank catches up to your "displayed" rank, then the progress starts climbing again. You won't see any movement for a loooong time, I guess. And pray that they don't alter the deal any further.
That almost kind of makes sense for those who got a ton post U14, but to go and kill the progress of anyone that had done everything pre-U14 is . I spent 125+ hours to get to elite and now they are like, yeah, about that, you're rank 4 now if you ever want to advance again... but hey, people that got Elite V in 12 hours are fine... That's why I'm seriously considering quitting the game if they don't fix something about it. This is so incredibly bad and insulting and unfair and honestly it breaks my trust with them enough to make Elite Dangerous go from my favorite game which I've spent literally probably over $1000 on just because I've enjoyed it so much to something I just don't want to play anymore because of this one thing.

I am very hopeful it's just a mistake though. Their senior community manager seems pretty surprised by it and is trying to gather more information. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...4-01-deployment-imminent.611688/post-10026323

Exobiology will now go back to not being used as a possible gameplay option till we know what is exactly required to reach the ranks to determine if it is even worth it. Fdev, is it too much to ask to tell us to what you changed the new numbers to?

are you kidding ? it's a genuine way to make money now and on top of that is the only career which pays more by doing it yourself and not following a guide (yes normal exploration pays more per thing if you find new.... but using a guide still pays more.

personally I find it quite rewarding at the moment tho sure I am still new to it.

(not against FD publishing the new numbers however for those who want them

There are so many ways to make easy money now that it doesn't matter if exo-bio is the newest money cow. Those that did exo-bio before because it was their thing will now refrain from doing it because there is no more sense of progress for them, and perhaps a lovely rank display reset looming as a surprise to boot. Those that wanted to do exo-bio rank, but didn't due to the slow progress will not even start now because - as it seems - the progress will be even slower. So we are left with those that just do it for the money, like you. I bet you will soon flock away to greener pastures once the super dull game-play that is exo-bio bores you out. The next gold-rush is just around the corner.

Well just turned in 260 million in exobiology and still make 0 progress. Guess my game is screwed unless I want to spend another 3 weeks farming what I already spent 3 weeks farming once. No thanks, it's been 6 months since my last login and this may be my last login ever. You lost 2 major supporters who had both spent hundreds of dollars on the game and I'd spent well over $1000 over the years. Your inability to do basic math is costing you players and money.

260 million is nothing............ if you are 1 off level to elite and you massively benefitted from the glitch it will likley be a fair bit more before you get back to the correct point.

that said, you could earn 260 mil in a few hrs doing exo if you are in undiscovered locations so it still should not take that long. the game isnt screwed you are just playing catchup i agree it is classic FD to have made the error in the 1st place but it seems a strange reason to rage quit

but its your choice of course. you do you etc

Indeed, 260 millions is peanuts.
3 first discovery for stratum tectonicas means 270 millions. That's basically landing on 3 hmc and spending 5-10 minutes hoping around and scan them.

You need 8.4 billions to reach Elite in exobiology
You need 4.4 billions to get from Geneticist to Elite in exobiology

Why should we spend hours of our lives playing this game if they do things like this: "Exobiology rank requirements have been adjusted to correctly account for their adjusted balance.".

because you enjoy the game?
the error wasnt the fix........ the error was giving you the insane rank progress to begin with. I for one am glad not to be elite in exobiology after literally 1 weekend at it.....

The fix also affected those not playing during the exo-bio boost, because everybody was demoted. Yeah, I know that the displayed rank stayed the same, but in the background your "virtual" rank was demoted nevertheless. This becomes clear when looking at the rank progress (be it visual bar or log percentage value): for many that never played during the boost, it sticks to zero even if they hand in many samples. Evidentially, this even resulted in "real" demotions for those being unfortunate enough having their "virtual" progress right before one of the new rank thresholds, so that a minor addition brought them over the line, resulting in a "promotion" to a lower rank. AFAIK, this was sorted in the meantime.
However, it still shows that in essence, FDev treats player progress as something they can tinker with at will. I wouldn't be surprised if a hefty combat "re-scale" is just around the corner, perhaps justified with some war shenanigans. Popcorn is in stock for the manure storm that will ensue then, though.
