Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

?! What exactly would you call a thread about a topic, with the title referring to the topic, then? Those threads listed talk about . . . ED. They ARE, therefore, about ED. You are more than welcome to engage in semantics with me, but, fair warning: I am a teacher, I'm used to repeating myself twenty times or more, and I'm definitely used to people trying to throw sand in my eyes when having a discussion, so . . . don't try to exchange manure with an expert. You'll end up covered in more feces than a veterinary trying to treat an elephant's diarrhea. ;)

Edit: I forgot about the forum's lovely software changing words . . . had to rephrase, so that it makes at least a bit of sense . . . shame on me. :D
I will not engage in semantics with you, je suis français alors il arrive quelque fois que ma prose en anglais ne corresponde pas exactement au fond de ma pensée.

Tre bien (that's pretty much the extent of my understanding of the French language).
I'm not a native speaker, either, so if you were grumbling about me criticising your English... well... then I've got this to say. Language is about communication, not obfuscation, and you have been merrily engaging in the latter whenever it suits you, and I don't think it's due to the language barrier. I've learned two foreign languages and taught English, I know a bit about language acquisition. ;)

The problem with playing fast and loose with language is, it makes understanding one another more difficult, defeating the primary purpose of communication. I get it, nobody likes being wrong, though as a husband, I'm familiar with that . . . (let me check if my wife's behind me . . . nope . . . good. :D ) But, hey, WHO CARES? NOBODY is going to give you a knuckle sandwich for getting your estimates wrong. CR himself cannot say when SQ404 will come out, so how could you?

You enjoy SC? MORE POWER TO YOU! Honestly.

I have no dog in this fight. I hugely enjoy ED, couldn't care less about SC (except for the entertainment value, laughing myself sick at the comments in this forum . . . the wit displayed by my fellow forumites makes the most accomplished German "comedians" look like dour old farts), and who am I to criticise somebody for their choices?

TL; DR: Say what you mean, mean what you say. You like SC, good on ya.

That's not how I speak here. There is no obfuscation from my part, only genuine misuse of english from time to time.
For instance, I've still not understood how to correctly use the present tense and I've been criticized for it a few times. It's better now because I use deepl more often.

You fit the shoe of foreign language as it suits you. It is just another convenient deflection for your mumpitz. If you don't pay much attention your English becomes suddenly quite flawless.

English is one of those languages where the same word with the same spelling can have multiple different meanings depending on how the sentence around it is constructed......

Have fun with that as you're learning it, you're welcome :p
Vocabulary and pronounciation is the only challenge of English. Grammatically it is one of the simplest languages I know and likely one of the reasons for the widespread adoption as international language.

Did ChatJ3PT just break character?...
Except that the management want it done a certain way and are aware that this process takes some trial and error to get something that everyone is happy with. They have internal milestones and timelines they work to, but they are subject to change. If people took change as being normal as they should, then we'd see far more insight into that than we do.

This thread seems pretty dedicated to ED :)

So
1) Was it one of you lot, and
2) How long will it survive :D

(Exactly two months until Starfield appears and pushes both games onto the back burner for a while)
Lol, that thread is just awesome in its perfect timing to @LittleAnt comments.

One forum I moderate use likewise feature of Finnish language to hinder spam account registration. Something that most automated translators will have difficulty, and well most non-native speakers too...

True. Star Citizen does look pretty good in screen shots at times.
I think we have mentioned this a few times, yeah. And not too long ago I would have probably agreed. Alas I am afraid I was a bit the victim of the usual SC group thinking and assumptions... yes it also affects skeptics...

I mean, the more I play other space games the more I realize SC graphics are really nothing to write home about. I check the screenies recently posted and then I remember these others from a few space games I currently play or have played (some also quite old already):

And you suddenly realize that SC graphics, taken in isolation, perhaps could have impressed someone back then circa 2012 as it did to most of us. But within the context of the rest of actual games released out there (some even as old as SC), SC is indeed nothing to write home about. And let’s see what Starfield brings in!

Especially when one considers that these other games work reasonably well. Whereas SC is still utterly buggy, incomplete and broken after 11+ years.

If someone feels the urge to die on the "SC graphics are the bestest" hill as a dutiful knight in a last ditch defense, then not only he/she is arguably very wrong but it is also indeed a sad day for what that actually means for SC as a game.
