Maybe he backed when Chris was stating the game would require a bit more polish and be released in a couple of years or whatever.

Now that's dedication !
Heh, just got back from longish exploration expedition at first I thought that both Universal Cartographics and Vista Genomics had kind of stiffed me. But no got a lots of credits when I looked on my credits account.Well, after all, ED players are always up for a long grind.![]()
They are winning so much. Like the way they totally wrecked Crytek before the court, to the point of paying them millions in settlement.Customers, not backers.

Another poor soul lost in translation. He should have read "reteasable stale". Pardon Chris' french. So he played, thinking that (based on CIG's own statements) that the game would get better, that it would be really playable and in a releasable state
He gets so close to the real question:Mike reacts to Noobifier video
I thought Noobifier was at least somewhat realistic about things, but he's in full on cope mode here.
He gets so close to the real question:
"How would it look if people love SQ42*, then go to a broken PU?" he asks.
But doesn't then ask "So why are they spending so much dev effort on finishing SQ42 when they need a working PU before it can ship?". Are they just going to finish SQ42 and then hold off shipping it until you can walk down a ramp without dying in the PU? Nah, they'll ship SQ42** and then feign surprise at the negative feedback the PU gets.
* Also the copium to think SQ42 can be 'perfected', despite how jank the PU is, but that's a whole other topic
** Something that does seem reasonable in the video is that CIG will treat any income from SQ42 as 'free money' - because they haven't paid for it to be developed - the backers have. So even is it is a disaster they can just carry on with 'Sq42 part 2'.
This is how you do it. You call them out.Reminds me of the kerfuffle when Frontier dropped Offline mode a month before release then tried denying refunds to backers because they’d played x amount of hours in the Alpha & Betas.
Letters Before Action ensued and FDev coughed up the refunds.
To answer OPs question.
In short - probabbly not.
In long - SC already had a "master mode" system from Alpha 2.0 to early in the Alpha 3.X cycle.
This flight mode system had three distinct flight modes:
PES:
Precision Mode with a max speed up to 50m/s.
This was to be used for slow maneuvers around objects as well as for landings and takeoff.
SCM:
Standard Combat Maneuver Speed – currently the speed range before the red line on the speed meter. Depending on the ship something between 140-220m/s. SCM is the speed a ships thrusters can still keep the ship from drifting too much. SCM was the intended mode for dog fighting and CIGs attempt to bring ships closer so we could see the high detail of the ship models when we damaged them.
CRU:
Cruise Speed which would go all the way to a ships top speed and was to be used to cross a distance fast. Remember back in early 3.0 days we only had the OM markers and ALWAYS had to manually fly down to any Point of Interest.
Why did this go away?
For starters new players / free fly players did not understand that there are three ship speed modes you have to manually switch to. So in Alpah 3.0 most of the time your could read a new player complain in chat how they e.g. jumped to Yela and are now already 44min in to a dive down to the surface at their .. PES max speed of 50m/s! The concept that you do not have full speed control of your ship even when flying “Pedal to the metal” was not intuitive at all. The opposite effect was players trying to land but were still at SCM or CUR modes instead of PRE and as a result slammed right in to the ground, hangar, station wall or landing pads.
Secondly – dogfights knew only one way of happening. Two opponents regardless of PvE or PvP would face each other at max SCM and start to fire as soon as they were in range. Once past – switch to max CRU, decouple, flip 180, hit boost to change flight vector to nose direction faster, get closer to target again, fire, hit Max CRU rinse and repeat until one goes BOOOOM. Aka – jousting. CIG did not want jousting to happen like that, as CR wants those Star Wars like Dogfights with ships circling around each other to get a hit in his game. So ever since CIG tries to get rid of jousting but they never can as it’s a go to tactic players use – so go to even that CIGs own ship combat AI jousts all of the time.
So CIG, based on our feedback that said we want full speed control, eventually made the decision to ditch PRE / SCM / CUR modes altogether and only CRU remained aka the mode where you have full 0 - 100% speed control and added a marker on the speed meter that would still indicate the ships top speed at which thrusters can counter drifting effectively aka SCM. When this change was announced the then vehicle team made the point that they wanted to get rid of ships flight mode speed restrictions as they felt it was too restrictive and rather want players to alyways feel in full control of their ship all of the time.
That being said, I was rolling my eyes when CIG announced “Master modes” to counter jousting and to get ships closer for combat again, as they had already attempted this approach in the past and had to learn - it does not work! Maybe it will work better with "Master Modes" this time as CIG had enough time and to sort through our feedback and data on the previous PRE / SCM /CRU modes, but I highly doubt it will result in jousting to go away and also expect a comeback of new players not understanding that ships have distinct flight modes each with their own speed limits. Also the idea the Master Modes will deactivate shields when going above SCM is just dumb. Deactivate weapons to force combat at SCM, maybe, but shields?
I don't think anyone thinks of credits when they mention grind in ED.Heh, just got back from longish exploration expedition at first I thought that both Universal Cartographics and Vista Genomics had kind of stiffed me. But no got a lots of credits when I looked on my credits account.
Because then even the thickest nowit would realise that all the tosh they are told is just utter nollocks and lies to obscure the water and let the money flow....
But doesn't then ask "So why are they spending so much dev effort on finishing SQ42 when they need a working PU before it can ship?". Are they just going to finish SQ42 and then hold off shipping it until you can walk down a ramp without dying in the PU? Nah, they'll ship SQ42** and then feign surprise at the negative feedback the PU gets.
...
Is there any more pay to win example than this?Going beyond selling ships for money, they are now selling loadouts.
