What do you think the anniversary animal is going to be?

Here's my guesses although I doubt that my 'requests' and guesses will come through.
  1. African leopard
  2. Perentie
  3. Baboon (any species)
  4. Markhor
  5. Masai giraffe
Any questions like why those would be anniversary?

  1. Either something simple, like an American Black Bear
  2. Or an animal that uses the walkthrough exhibits, like a bird
I understand walkthrough exhibits are in Base Game so you don’t have to download it with separate DLCs, but having it in base game without being able to use it is silly.

A small prediction: the Fall pack is going to be something simple like the last two, the anniversary animal is a bird for the walkthrough, winter dlc is a bird dlc.

I think the only guarantee is that the anniversary animal will not be an animal that will sell in a DLC, so that definitely excludes a flying bird.
They could have a bird in the October dlc and then add another as Anniversary. The paid one will be a more appealing bird though.

Here's how I think it'll go: since we've already gotten the Black and White Lemur and the Red Deer, we could probably rule out a small primate (or at least a lemur) or some ungulates. Based on the rigs we have in the game, I've compiled a list of animal type candidates and which animals I'd most prefer to fill those roles:
  • Antelopes (as opposed to deer): Impala
  • Bovids: Wild Yak
  • Rodents: Augouti OR Patagonian Mara
  • Penguins: Pretty much any will do, preferably from a colder Antarctic climate so that they can intermingle with the King Penguins
  • Canids: Coyote
  • Tortoises: African Spurred Tortoise
  • Goats: Golden Takin
  • Sheep: American Bighorn Sheep
  • Crocodilians: Nile Crocodile
  • Caimans: Black OR Yacare Caiman
  • Cats: Fishing Cat
  • Mustelids (Wolverines, Weasels, Badgers, Mink, etc.): Honey Badger OR Wolverine
  • Aquatic Mustelids (Basically just otters): Sea Otter OR North American River Otter
  • Large Lizards: Perentie
  • Suids: Visayan Warty Pig
  • Camelidae: Alpaca OR Vicuña OR Guanaco
  • Large Primates: Hamadryas Baboon
  • Small Non-Lemur Primates: Black Howler Monkey
  • Pinnipeds: Pacific Walrus OR Harbor Seal
  • Large Ground-Dwelling Birds: Shoebill OR Secretary Bird
  • Bears: Sloth Bear OR Spectecaled Bear OR American Black Bear
  • Mongooses (We already have the meerkat, so it's not a stretch.): Banded or Indian Mongoose
  • Armadillos: Screaming Hairy Armadillo
  • Giraffidae: Masai Giraffe
  • Horses: Onager
  • Small Arboreal Non-Primate Mammals: Coatimundi OR Virginia Opossum OR Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine
  • Macropods: Matschie's Tree Kangaroo OR Quokka
You're all welcome to use this method to decide what you think we'll get. Feel free to use mine as a template.

I could see any of these!

Yeah, but what's tricky about choosing them was to pick something that didn't fit too well into common pack ideas. For example, a walrus could fit well into a tundra or marine pack.
I would be happy with literally any one of them you listed. You did a great job 👍

My personal guesses/hope would be a bird, in particular a rhea or my personal favorite, the saurus crane.
Its very similar looking to the red crowned crane without any special features like the demoinselle or crowned while also being very visually unique with its grayish white coat and red head.
Its quite common with 45 EAZA holdings and found in northern india at the slopes of the himalaya, some spots in inland SEA and most importantly northern Australia to throw oceania another boon.

I am a mammal lover, but I would take a bird over a coyote. Coyotes (or some form of Jackal) would be nice to have in-game due to their cool vocalizations and they have culture attached to them. However, I really hope for a basal type of Canid OR a Bush Dog before they add just a smaller wolf-type howling canine.

If I had to put money on it, I’d say the American Black Bear, simply because I don’t really see any more North American packs coming our way but it is very iconic and we haven’t had a bear in a long time. Maybe if Frontier really wanted to smash it out of the park they could give us all three of our remaining bears - the sloth, the spectacled and the American Black. They’re easy reskins and would give Asian, North American and South American representation, this would be nice to finish off given we got the lemur (African) and the deer (predominately European) in the previous two anniversary’s - this could be our last anniversary after all!

Some of the suggestions here I just don’t see tbh, it has to be unique but also somewhat clone like. I can’t see the Perentie as I’d say it’s almost too clone like, especially as we recently got the, somewhat ill-received, Asian water monitor. I could’ve seen the AWM as the anniversary animal if we hadn’t already received it though.

Some other options I could see, rather unique but still somewhat clone like:
  • African Spurred Tortoise (I actually think this could be quite likely)
  • Grey-Crowned Crane (iconic and more terrestrial than the red-crowned, also visually very different)
  • Ocelot (I’m not sure we’re going to get another neotropical pack but it’s a pretty big omission and would be easy to make).
  • Greater Rhea (the last of the abc ratites and arguably the most common in zoos + more SA representation, was arguably edged out of the grasslands DLC by the emu but still deserves to be in the roster!)
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque (very unique in design and fairly highly requested by the community, another primate and could look really good driven how well Frontier are making animals atm).
  • Ring-Tailed Coati (I’m not sure how this would fit in any potential future DLCs and it’s highly requested and fairly unique).

Tbh that’s largely it. There’s others I’d see more likely in upcoming DLCs (Gelada, Pallas’ Cat, Tree Kangaroo, Aye-Aye, Sulawesi Crested Macaque, Tasmanian Devil, Wolverine etc.) and there’s others I’d like but think are ‘too’ cloney (South American Tapir, Nile Crocodile, Barbary Macaque, European Wisent etc.)
