Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

Not financial but with the Constellation edition you get to play the game up to 5 days early. The Explorer edition doesn't mention this though.
I get the criticism then. I mean if the studio is known for buggy games, playing it early only means you'll have to put up wth bugs for longer before its fixed. I'm not above this either, I got sucked into Bannerlord knowing how sleazy the devs are and did I pay for it. That game is still incomplete after launch. It's almsot Star Citizen level bad.

I didn't buy it for the early access, I bought it for the game and the watch. Why are people so keen to play Nostradumbass with this game?

Is there some sort of financial incentive for pre-ordering?

It all comes down to personal preference and how disposable yer income is. I've got to watch how I spend my money, and I need to know I'm not buying a turkey before I leap in. Kickstarting Elite IV was different coz it's Elite

Also my internet connection isn't too great. I'd prefer to download just the one time instead of the game and then the patches. I don't even download Elite: Dangerous updates until I know there aren't any patches necessary
You can get a watch or a controller, but they also cost extra. If you just go for the 5 days early... I dunno, that's kinda dumb. 5 days extra with unfixed bugs and waitung for day 1 patch. Not worth it. Preorder always depends on the extras you might get - and they mostly are just trash. I do it extremely rarely - like when I know the composer of the music and they add the soundtrack, then I might say "Yes, this is a good proposition."

You get some perks, like equipment and stuff, as other mentioned there is also early access for the some of the more expensive editions.

I'm getting the watch too. I don't own a smart watch and thought to myself that if I get a game and a watch and they get some extra cash, it's win-win.

The appeal of a game-related watch is nerd heaven for me.

I understand why people like the hardware that comes with it, I mean why not? my man cave is full of stuff, this time I just want to play the game, and the 5 days early bird is just so I can record all the weird bugs that might be in the game, so we can laugh at it later on, and I will be streaming as must as possible so people can see what it is raw without any fancy editing, and make up their own darn mind ;)

I was sorely tempted to get the watch but after a lot of pondering I’ve decided to pass - I know that it would never get much wrist time due to the sorta-game-related watch that’s been on my wrist for about 18 years now*.

My nephew (nice watch collection) has already ordered it so at least I’ll be able to go and coo over it and probably get to wishing I’d bought one as well 😅

*a Seiko SKX divers watch with “Pepsi” bezel - as featured in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and one of my most heavily played games.

It seems to me that you’re playing Nostradamus and ‘people’ are waiting to see what’s actually released.
That's fair enough, it's only because I needed to build a new PC and could not wait any more and because I'm a sucker for space games with RPG mechanics and I like Bethesda as a game studio bugs and all.

Got word of a settlement that needs our help?

It's almost as memeable and legendary like the Sweetroll and the arrow in the knee. Basically all these meme quotes are only so popular because the whole dialogue was spretty limited. I wonder when maybe chatbots increase such dialogue options.

Well, the settlement thing was not about the lack of dialogue variety, but about the only way to keep the rebuilding of society safe, being the leader of the peace-keeping force personally running around to pretty much single-handedly defend each and every settlement as it comes under attack, on order from their second-in-command, but... :p

Not sure about edition names etc but I purchased the digital premium edition add-on on top of the base game which is included with Gamepass ultimate. The extras are a couple of cosmetic items, free DLC when it appears later on and 5 days early access to Starfield on September 1st...

Seemed like a good deal to me plus I'm not interested in the physical (but cheaply made) addons like the headset, controller and watch. I've got pretty top of the range headsets and Xbox controllers as it is, I can 3D print a Starfield logo on them if I really wanted to delve into the thrill of advertising...But I know what I'm buying into at the end of the day, as much as I wouldn't class myself as a Bethesda fanboy, I've had many hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of every Bethesda game I've ever bought previously 🤷‍♂️

As for the watch...I took my war department issue Timex watch off my wrist when I left the army and shoved it in a kitchen drawer where it remains to this day. Living up here in the frozen North, it's a fairly impressive achievement if I remember which day of the week it is, never mind what time of day it is...it doesn't really matter that much up here :)
