Ships Best Ship for Materialfarming?

4 Drones when there are at least 3x G5 materials in the HGEs?
And in addition, a Supercruise Assist because no pig needed?
3-6 materials. I use 4 limpets when there are 4 materials, and 3 limpets otherwise. I don't see a downside to using the multi-limpet controller vs a class 3 collector which only has 2 limpets.
I use supercruise assist for fast arrival at HGEs and stations - you can cut approach time by up to 30 seconds using SA if you know how. I'm happy to lose 4T of limpets for that saving.

If you are going to relogski at High Grade Emissions then I don't think you can beat AspX for its supercruise 180 loop turn speed. Mine is
https://s.orbis.zone/lqis
Multi-limpet controller for 4 limpets to quickly hoover up the materials.

3a. Cobra mk3 has better supercruise maneuverability than the AspX (which is no slouch, but C3 is better)
3b. Diamondback Scout has almost the same maneuverability as C3 at 50% throttle, but it's worse at 100% throttle (and there are also tradeoffs)
2. Then, better than Cobra Mk3 is the Asp Scout - but there are certain tradeoffs, however ignoring those tradeoffs, AspS turns better in supercruise than Cobra Mk3
1. Then, even better - the Sidewinder - it's ship with the best supercruise maneuverability - but then again, there are certain tradeoffs

Overall, i still think that Cobra mk3 is the best for material gathering (in space) - at least for me.
AspS is good too, actually is better if one is dead set to use collectors (i'm not, i prefer ship-collection since it removes the dependency of limpets)

I use a Krait Phantom because it has decent enough SC maneuverability, a good jump range for quickly jumping between systems with rarer states and more internal space than a small ship or an AspX for limpets to actually collect the mats.

Space material farming (HGE's for mfg mats):
  • Anything that has acceptable jump range, collector limpet controller, and some cargo racks for limpets.
  • A decent fuel scoop is a good idea.
  • Supercruise assist is nice if you are doing this while watching TV or doing laundry.

Space Material Farming (mfg mats)
  • PvE Corvette with size 7 collector limpet controller and size 6 cargo rack with 64 limpets. Blow up tons of stuff and vacuum up the mats.
  • By the time you run out of ammo, you also need to restock limpets.
  • Best shields possible, so you can go as fast as possible without ever needing repairs.
  • Visit compromised nav beacons for non-stop blowing stuff up.

Guardian site material farming:
  • Anything that has acceptable jump range, SRV and okay shields.
  • Small is better for landing right beside the site.
  • 1 or 2 Point Defense on the top of your ship to get rid of the missiles that get shot at you.
  • My favorite is Viper Mk4 (launched from a fleet carrier).
  • If you don't have a fleet carrier, then a long distance exploration ship. AspX, DBX, whatever.

Planet raw mat farming:
  • Anything with okay jump range, SRV and good shields so you can bounce off stuff.
  • Detailed Surface Scanner is necessary. Recommend pre-Engineered G5 expanded probe radius.
  • I prefer a small ship for better maneuverability and landing in difficult locations. My favorite is Viper Mk4.

Encoded Data:
  • On any of the above ships equip Frame Shift Wake Scanner, engineered G5 Long Range. I prefer long range so whenever I leave a station I can enter lazy mode and use my entire ship as a turret my ship scanning anything in proximity.
  • Maybe not on the PvE corvette, takes too much power and the utility slot is better used for another shield booster. Or a Kill Warrant Scanner for a bunch of extra credits. The PvE corvette gets lots of encoded data just from normal scanning ships anyway.

And no Surface Scanner.
Umm what surfaces need scanning when collecting materials in High Grade Emissions?

Cobra mk3 has slightly better pitch rate - and way less optional internal space than AspX, so a lot fewer limpets, not worth it IMO.

Gather full bins of lower grade mats and trade up. Likewise if you have full bins of higher grade mats you can trade down. It's easy to get low grade mats. If you do any PVE combat, the mats are everywhere.

I take issue with the CNB mat farming just because so many ships have turret defense systems that take out limpets. You need a "quiet" instance to do it properly, meaning take a few pirate assassination or bulk massacre missions. once you have killed one, take the mats. Often no others will engage you until you engage them and they fly in big circles and aren't outfitted with turret defenses. The best farming for space mats, imo, is done in anarchy systems where there is a tourist beacon. You have to be willing to kill cruise ships, just the top 1% will do. Those have some of the best mats.

Huh?

At Compromised Nav Beacons only the NPC ships you attack fight back. Unless they have a couple friends in a wing that join the fight, no big deal. You don't vacuum up one destroyed ship at a time. You destroy +10 ships then take a brief pause to casually suck up the mats, let your shields recover a bit, and grab a drink or a snack IRL. More NPCs aren't going to attack you or your limpets. For effective farming of any kind you go in solo mode, not open. Edit: and obviously not while "wanted" or wiith stacked missions.

Assassination missions and other missions provide the opportunity to organically collect mats and is usually my preferred method. IMO it generally provides sufficient over time and does not feel like grinding. But I wouldn't really call this a "farming" method for eng mats. Certainly combined with taking the G5 mats reward from the missions and using mat traders is a great way to fill up the bins and maybe this is considered mat farming? I don't know, it just words now.

Fight back yes, but uninvolved ships with point defense turrets shoot my limpets. Seems like an automatic response. Been that way since turrets and limpets coexisted.

If you're doing it only for the materials then I'd say it's material farming. If you take spec ops missions and ever kill anything, they seem to drop a lot of heat components that I don't find with pirates.

Perhaps I lose some limpets. The big quantity of eng mats and spammed limpets, I just haven't noticed. Stuff just keeps going in my cargo hold. Maybe I do lose some limpets. Oh well. Edit - I destroy a bunch of ships then vacuum up the mats... not one ship at a time. Maybe that's why I haven't noticed this as an issue... if I destroyed everything in the local vicinity.

When I'm back in the bubble I will try this again and pay more attention.

I don't like grind farming. And that's what this is. But it does allow for non-stop combat. One hour yields a lot of stuff.

I do the same as you only I empty the instance (been surprised a couple times by a random pirate who drops in unannounced). Combat zones are good places for higher end mats also, if you're strapped for that level of warfare.

Not sure it still happens, but originally the mats would deteriorate until they went away over time so I had to get to them pretty quickly. I haven't noticed their behavior since I've started playing again after a year or so hiatus.

What about this non-engineered build, perhaps with Point Defense or Flak?
DBX Materials Farmer
* You can fit a 2A power plant in game, but Coriolis...

Anyways, this loadout needs some stuff moved into priority 5 for power output management. As is, and without limpets in inventory, it's jump range is 38.5. With 8 limpets, 37.5. If sans wake scanner and mining laser, that bumps up to 38.9 and 37.9.

Bonus: If it explodes, its rebuy is under 500,000 CR.
