Forced download via Steam

As a Steam Legacy only player, why am I being forced to download 50Gb? I uninstalled Oddity and Horizons years ago. How do I prevent this nonsense?

Stop the update, open the app manifest, update the manifest ID to each depot and set state flag to 4. Make sure STEAM IS NOT RUNNING while you do this. Get the info from steamdb.

Thanks for the intel, but that is too convoluted for me. I was hoping for a tick box...

And that is exactly why Valve got rid of the tick box. Because people are too lazy to do anything more than that to take back control of their own computers and files anymore.

So, I was forced to download Oddity/Horizons again in order to play Legacy.

If I uninstall Oddity/Horizons (again), will I then be force to download them (again) with every patch/update to Oddity/Horizons, in order to play Legacy?

I assume you uninstall it through the launcher. In that case, Steam will try to re-download it over and over. Live is "the game" now as far as Steam is concerned. It was the other way around when Legacy was still the base game, Steam kept downloading it for me after I uninstalled it in the launcher.

You're probably right. Oh well. Good thing we still have Legacy at all.

it would probably better if Steam just handled the purchase and authentication and left all downloads to the launcher, like MSFS2020 did. On the other hand, Steam updates are so much faster than launcher updates for me, so...

I use SteamVR with WMR and i have only ever launched through FD's own launcher. VR starts automatically when i do that.

Worth a try if you have access to the FD launcher?
Interesting. I haven't used the FD launcher in a couple of years. I can't remember why I switched to Steam, but I assume that it was because of the VR implementation/interface.

I've settled on an HP Reverb G2. A perfect match for Legacy (if you have the hardware for it).

I'll definitely check it out. Thanks.

So you didn't get a forced download for Oddity/Horizons via the FD launcher?

You wouldn't happen to have a link to FDs launcher? I can't seem to find it on FDs website.

You don't need another launcher if you have a Steam installation. You can use the Steam-installed launcher standalone as well, if I remember correctly. Provided you have a standalone Frontier license of course. You cannot login without Steam if you bought the game on Steam after April 2019.

I use a Reverb G1.

I can't answer about the forced download because I do have Ody installed intentionally, but you can switch versions and then
manage each version, so I'm hoping that means you could keep Legacy only like the old launcher.

Sally posted a direct link last week, let me see if I can find it.

This is getting a convoluted... :)

I've had E: D since initial launch, and do indeed have a standalone Frontier license.

How do I use the Steam-installed launcher without using Steam?...
