Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I occasionally have an urge to find a new system with one, map every world, set foot on everything set-footable, stick my carrier there and rename it to NO TRESPASSING.
I found my first ELW many years ago, before you could map planets with the DSS even. I tagged every body in the system so my name would be the only one on that system.

Then the DSS happened, so I had to go back and scan the bodies so I would have "first mapped by" tags.

Then First Footfall became a thing and I had to go back and land on stuff. :)

The system is way out by Colonia, too, so it was quite a distance. But I have my "own" system, with an ELW. My CMDR can retire there someday :p

Since then I have found exactly 1 more ELW (note that I've been playing since 2019, and have 4000+ hours in the game). Some folks seem to run across them a lot, but not me.

I'll refer to you CMDR Chiggy, who is legendary in finding ELWs.

Interesting. I only notced while cruising around on a six bio moon in my home system. And that was with the Curious Dryad.
I think I'll check it when I'm back in the game, there should be a one-seater in my fleet that has an SRV hangar...

It has a crew seat but no SLF capability - not in-game atm, but checked the Fandom page... i saw something about this recently and got the impression it was possibly a new thing - i don't think it has been possible before to disembark in an SRV & have the NPC follow in ship, as with fighter?

Hmmm... the plot thickens - these seem to be from early stage Barnacle Sites, now found in un(human)inhabited Thargoid controlled systems - colonisation is now underway, according to GalNet Digest ;)

...most unfortunately i am currently about 12KLY away & can't hunt around & scan these new things ;p

Apparently the sites are protected by Revenants - thus having one's ship follow one around while providing cover could be rather useful there...

I haven't seen it before, either. But a crew seat suffices to have your NPC pilot with you.

I think I'm gonna do some testing, today... Need some other materials, so I can prepare the Curious Dryad for the journeys ahead.

Well, here it is for me then, about half the way to Colonia - i hope i can get to land there by the time i'm ready to retire... :)

My main CMDR, whom I've played since the release of the game has only ever found one ELW, and that was after five years. Yet one of my alts (who started in 2019) has nine to her name!

Such guns were rare to not available/illegal over here in my youth.
It was very cheap, nothing like those high-powered German made air rifles I remember reading about at the time. It wasn't all mayhem, we were all good friends and had rules but there are times I'm amazed I survived my childhood growing up in a microscopic town in the Sierra's. We would explore abandoned gold mines with candles, we couldn't afford flashlights or batteries in the early 1970's, no television up there unless you could afford an antennae way up in a tree. We had lot's of time on our hands. :)

My memory once again took me for a ride, there. A crew seat doesn't suffice to take your NPC pilot with you...

Alas I didn't manage to land the ship... got distracted by many signals in space, almost overwhelming... And quite some HGEs - at least 5, probably more, I lost track.

Next session I'll land the Stargazer and jump into my SRV. And then I will try to find out how to activate the "follow me" button and what happens.

My supplier /armourer (I do air pistol target competitions these days*) carries the Crossman 760 for less than £80. (Legal in England, requires a permit in Scotland.)

* EDIT - To be fair I ought to say "up until recently".

Yeah, that's it, doesn't look like it has changed much over the years. I remember a kid showing up with his father's leather biker vest that hung down almost to his knees, my beebees bounced off of him. Next time I came with a 3 foot x 2 foot sheet of 1/4 inch plywood with an improvised handle on the back, we were like a couple of ironclads going at it, we later on graduated to paintball guns playing capture the flag.

I can’t claim it was recently as it was back in the 1980’s into the 1990’s but I used to shoot mainly 10m* air pistol occasionally rifle as well unfortunately the local club folded due to lack of members just about the time the CO2 guns started to become common below international standard shooting.

*I would do 6 yard at competitions as well just to fill out the day.
