What bird will we get this year?

Secretary bird
Shoebill
Kiwi
Grey crowned crane

Any of these I would be very happy with. I expect the most likely would be grey crowned crane due to the framework already in the game so least amount of hours and $ spent implementing.

Maybe no bird? If the next pack is montane, or mountains like people are guessing....then I would bet money there will be no birds in the next pack.

A 4+1 scenery pack doesn't leave room for any birds.

I don't think we get any birds this year. I guess it depends on what the Winter '23 will be. Maybe it's an aviary pack, this game needs to desperately change the current stale dlc forumla.

It's like a boring lecture, that's gone on way too long, and people are falling asleep...get to the Pièce de résistance already!

If we got an aviary pack in December, why can't frontier go back to stale 4 habitat+exhibit formula afterwards (for Spring 2024???)

Just get people re-energized...you can see when people are starting to lose interest. This game has SO much potential still...I think if Frontier makes the community wait too long for aviary dlc/aquarium dlc then they will lose people forever, people will just lose interest waiting YEARS for good dlc.

Receiving like 8 or maybe even say 12 birds won't breath life into the game like everyone thinks it will. Its still the same formula of build habitat, buy animal, care for animal whether its a bunch of budgies or south American monkeys. The best chance of getting a huge expansion that we all hope for (and 're-engerise' the playerbase) will be the final addition to the game paired with a console release.

I think that a temperate pack, which is also likely, could bring one bird even if it is a 4+1 scenery pack. A white stork, mute swan or a kiwi don't seem to be crazy ideas.

Talking about birds, what biomes should the blue penguin have? Aquatic and...?

I can definitely see that side of it.

One argument can be made that the best way to "re-energize" or "reinvigorate" the fan base is to give us the most requested dlcs at the VERY end of Planet Zoo's cycle, as a final way to get people interested.

My perspective is this, people lose interest in things. ESPECIALLY in 2023 where there are a million games to play, and different things to do.

The dlc formula 4+box (scenery), 7+box (no scenery) has grown stale. The active steam users have stagnated (which is to be expected), but these dlcs unfortunately are not bringing back the people who used to play.

The content creators on Youtube, are running out of ideas, different ways to build, and are not getting the same views they used to get. Therefore, building for PZ on these channels has become less "profitable" (the videos get less views...). So they are better off focusing on OTHER games.

If it was me, I would stop this bleeding NOW. I would not allow the "world" to forget this masterpiece, and I would remind them by releasing new mechanics (flying habitat animals, and fully aquatic species to build for) and highly requested animals (birds, sharks, fish, cetaceans, manatees).

I would keep the interest in this game going, by releasing highly requested dlc this year (that the community has been asking for since 2019). That way people who have stopped playing the game will have a reason to come back, and content creators will have a reason to make videos for this game again.

And I'd personally bet money that 8 to 12 birds will absolutely "breathe new life into this game". I bet the steam users would see a bump higher than any other dlc, and I'd bet content creators would have a reason to start making more videos, AND I'd bet an aviary dlc would sell better than any other PZ dlc this far. I might be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet money on that.

Hear hear, it's like going to a zoo and seeing the same limited number of animal animations over and over but no variety beyond that. You would get bored very quickly. Zoos have diversity for a reason; they don't want to bore guests. Seeing contrasts is what allows us to appreciate beauty. Frontier needs to put resources in this game but since they have Warhammer in 2023 and a new creative management sim next year (PC2?), I don't think it's likely anymore.

I do think part of the issue has been an excessive focus on the building side of PZ and a lack of attention to the management side. As a franchise player I'd want the following:

1. A rework of the disease system. Currently unless you have issues with cleanliness (due to bad design) the animals never get sick. They also never get injured unless you mess up and have the wrong population after maturation. This essentially means 2 of the staff buildings are more or less pointless (quarantine and vet).
2. More tools to deal with maturation - once your zoo gets big enough you spend an excessive amount of time micromanaging this. Better tools to manage the population in general.
3. Can the animals eat the guests when they escape, thanks.
4. Play areas for children, and perhaps a 'fun' need for child guests. The ability to build a play area would also be an excellent addition for building the zoo in general.

I'm sure there's also plenty of other things that can be done to liven up the actual gameplay.

However despite my complaints I don't think the above would be what brings back players. I think releasing an aviary pack is what would do that. Aquarium is more problematic because 1. the controversy with cetaceans and 2. do you really want to spend even more time trying to get the water to work the way you want?

This always comes up but I don't think people realise how much work it would be. Child guests literally cannot be separated from adult guests, so there's no way to have a situation where only children use specific items in the game, unless you also want children arriving unaccompanied by adults in your zoo (i.e. 'child only' groups). Even then, it probably isn't possible to create items specific to one set of guests, since there is no real separation between children and adults as it is.

Honestly the best we can hope for regarding playgrounds are unusable props to add flavour to the map.

That's fair enough, I hadn't considered the mechanics of it to be honest.

There's still plenty of things that can be done to put more 'game' in the game :)

We kinda do have some sort of baseline for this with the interactive education boards where mainly the kid guest interacts with it while the adults watch. Maybe some sort of trigger where group walks to say a bench to activate the trigger and the kid guest appears on playground items.
