Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Not sure comparing a single player game like SF to the digital mess of Star Citizen is the right comparison to make.

SF looks like it will offer me a lot of what I hoped SQ42 would when I pledged back in September 2013!! I got refunded in September 2017 as SQ42 was nowhere to be seen and recently it completely dropped off the radar.

There will be bugs in SF, I have no doubt of that, but there will also be a game to play. Looking forward to it.
Yep, it's a really simple comparison:
1. Starfield will be playable and fun and moddable, in less than a month's time.
2. Star Citizen's single-player campaign Squadron 404 won't be playable or fun or moddable, in less than a year's time, probably two or more.

They aren't competition though, because a non-existent product like Squadron 404 cannot compete. An analogy:

I don't Netflix, but I believe I've heard about the comic. Trains in snow was also theme in some video game back then. I don't know if it's related. Anyway, French / Belgian artists are always worth a look. I have only a couple favourites but I'm open to learn something new - it's just there is also so much trash about, it's hard to pick the good ones.
It's a social allegory that only works in the heightened environment of a scifi setting. It doesn't bear prolonged scrutiny though, the flaws in the ideas become apparent after a while. I thoroughly recommend the movie though, it's a bit dark but it's the right medium for the idea. The show starts to suffer from the issues I mentioned. Have not read the comics but I imagine unless the writing is incredible it would have the same problem.

But I bet she had more fun than anyone else on the track. 😏

Hey, stop being so accurate mean. :)

SC is marketed to SP audience with promises of SP experience - just like ED.
It won't work, especially with a "rich universe" of one starless system, but opens it neatly for comparison to other SP games, which are far more superior in what they offer.

For sure, chances are that CIG will shut down in the next 5 years and Frontier, HG and Bethesda will continue releasing games and updates to released games, with lots and lots of players really enjoying them.
No no, you see, they are going to be running a "large MMO" by 2025, according to their finance guy, in some article, some time in the past. They only need to develop the MMO. And make it "large".

The longest "low" in funding that I can recall and it still seems to be going:

I wonder how long it will last, any new ship sales on the horizon ? That would be a good test.

Exactly this!

Wobblechin Waveyhands wants to buy yachts and handbags. So if there is no money coming in from Immersion Chariot purchases, he will either have to make a game to use the purchased Immersion Chariots in, or go find some other way of fleecing rubes for cas delivering the BDSSE according to the Vison!
For a reasonable developer/publisher that could well work. For a solidly incompetent one like CIG, you would probably get stuck with a crappy product either way: The fact SC has been released in early access means Chris Roberts has already delivered a product. How good and how close to the sales pitch that product is though, is a different story. But if money stopped coming in for SC CIG would simply stay put with SC as is, and probably downsize the company and shut down servers, no consequences otherwise unless someone decides to sue or investigate.

Whad? :) I admit I stopped watching his three videos a week about why a franchise from 1984 that never had FPS should have FPS, around the time he stopped playing the games he talks about.

His "critical" Star Citizen videos are less frequent and don't get many views, his audience doesn't want to hear bad words said about Star Citizen and he caters towards what they want.

Maybe he's betting the farm on SF.

Almost forgot the question... You really think SF will be the long awaited here SC killer ?
The last ones were Dual universe, SW Squadrons, EDO and SpaceBourne 2. I wish you a better success with SF.
How can you kill something that is already dead?SC is a Zombie a Walking Dead a "Game" that was Never Ever Alive it's a "Game" that after a decade + still have the shameful status of been in "Pre-Alpha" and now finally even the higher ranking cultist&white knights starting to realize that their "emperor" has no clothes....
Well you know what after all you have the point to certain extent because even a Walking Dead need to be shotted in the head to stop walking and "bite" others that are alive and wants to live.....and maybe just maybe Star Field is going to be the "ONE" that is precise enough to put that "bullet" right in between the eyes of this poor and miserable "creature"...............

Yeah, been a while that I dont watch OA videos in general but, following his Elite creator beginnings, somewhere along the line, I feel his content became a bit like an "after the news investor". Someone who primarily waits for the news to settle so to safely go with the flow, caters for what his audience expects and sits too often on fences when slightly risky etc... Instead of daring being much more vocal in issues that clearly require it such as SC. Presume nowadays he is more worried about clicks than passing along clear cut, not on the fence, opinions. His too soothing voice does not help him much there I think. Or perhaps that is precisely how he wants to market himself. Either way he would make an excellent BBC radio news bulletin anchor I reckon though 😋

That said, on the other extreme of the spectrum we have creators such as Yamiks, so... reckon it is not easy.

Zombie game was pretty much my first thought, too. Can't really kill what is already a carcass.

Well, his "AI are the future for ED NPCs" vid, one month after we'd already dissected the subject to death on the forum and it slid off the front page into oblivion pretty much sums it for me now.

Guess OA decided that continuing to provide exclusive critical "news" on other bad space games for SC fans that dont like space games isn't the future, unless you speak Chinese.

Doesn't watch a channel's videos anymore, yet makes conclusions about the channel anyway

OA's channel has never been for SC fans - that may or may not like space games, or speak Chinese - so I've no idea how anyone could have drawn that conclusion, unless they restricted themselves to watching just one or two videos from him.

I was thinking about this yesterday.
Comparing different games. Why isn't it fair to compare Baldur's Gate 3 to Star Citizen or starfield or Neir Automata? They're different genre but its not like gamers play one genre of games exclusively, for certain Mole and Little Ant plays BG3 even though they play Star Citizen. One argument is game X doesn't have the features of game Y or doesn't have the same experience. The way I see it, you can only play one game at a time and the time invested in one game isn't being put into other games, so the gmae you chose to play the majority of time is the better one, more enjoyable, more entertaining, compared to the others in you library.

Look at RTS games, there's not many new RTS games around anymore. It's not because one RTS game killed the others, its because some other genre of games overtook the market to the point developers sees little return in making new RTS games.

Will Starfield be the Star Citizen killer? Definitely, for everyone who buy and plays Starfield. What would be more interesting and revealing is how many people buy into Star Citizen after Starfield release. Hell, how many bought into Star Citizen after Baldur's Gate 3 release would better prove my point that games doesn't have to be in the same genre to kill another game.

I still haven't made my mind up SP vs MP games. Are people playing MP games over SP games because they are superior or because they like playing with their friends? The test might be playing MP games alone, or playing the MP game with their friends vs playing it with complete strangers.

So?
He makes conclusions about games he doesn't play anymore, why is he exempt from the same level of critique?

The only difference is I don't have a dedicated youtube channel making 3 vids per week concerning his youtube channel and how disappointing it all is and "the way I see it..."

Imagine that was my primary content, because my primary viewers seemed more interested in watching opinion videos about OA videos which they don't want to watch, but they like watching videos about how disappointing it all is and "the way I see it..."

Then imagine there was a third YouTube channel about my videos about OA videos about games he doesn't play anymore, and that YouTube channel preferred to make opinion piece videos that were preferred by the type of people that didn't want to watch my videos about OA videos they don't want to watch and I don't want to watch about games he doesn't play anymore.

Imagine how confused you'd be then?

No, No listen. Just imagine that you’ve got this ebony bath, right? And it’s conical.

No, no, shh, shhh, it’s, it’s, it’s conical okay? So what you do, you fill it with fine white sand right? Or sugar, or anything like that. And when it’s full, you pull the plug out and it all just twirls down out of the plug hole… but the thing is…

No, the clever thing is that you film it happening. You get a movie camera from somewhere and actually film it. But then you thread the film in the projector backwards.

Yeah, neat you see. So what happens is you sit and you watch it and then everything appears to swirl upwards, out of the plug hole and fill the bath… amazing.

ARTHUR:
And that’s why your making sweeping statements about video creators you don't event watch the content of?

FORD:
No. But it’s a marvellous way to relax.

Has anyone seen Mr Sandwormy recently? Erm. Or ever again. After the sales boosting attention grabbing show reel, which I'm certain wasn't a cynical bait-and-switch ploy.

Buy a Starfield.
