Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I was thinking about this yesterday.
Comparing different games. Why isn't it fair to compare Baldur's Gate 3 to Star Citizen or starfield or Neir Automata? They're different genre but its not like gamers play one genre of games exclusively, for certain Mole and Little Ant plays BG3 even though they play Star Citizen. One argument is game X doesn't have the features of game Y or doesn't have the same experience. The way I see it, you can only play one game at a time and the time invested in one game isn't being put into other games, so the gmae you chose to play the majority of time is the better one, more enjoyable, more entertaining, compared to the others in you library.

Look at RTS games, there's not many new RTS games around anymore. It's not because one RTS game killed the others, its because some other genre of games overtook the market to the point developers sees little return in making new RTS games.

Will Starfield be the Star Citizen killer? Definitely, for everyone who buy and plays Starfield. What would be more interesting and revealing is how many people buy into Star Citizen after Starfield release. Hell, how many bought into Star Citizen after Baldur's Gate 3 release would better prove my point that games doesn't have to be in the same genre to kill another game.

...
A big point. Player time is the commodity that is scarce. You can only play so many games at the same time. Sure, you can build a catalogue of unplayed games, but the general buyers get their games to play them. That means the market for games is limited by player numbers and their time and every genre competes with each other in general. That does not count so much for niche games like hardcore simulators or exotic simulators, but space as theme isn't so niche like it was a decade ago.

I still haven't made my mind up SP vs MP games. Are people playing MP games over SP games because they are superior or because they like playing with their friends? The test might be playing MP games alone, or playing the MP game with their friends vs playing it with complete strangers.
Motives for playing MP are not uniform. Some like the social aspect, some enjoy the absence of predictable bots others seek a competitive, challenging and faster paced activity.
I'm sure there are multiple motives in addition and go in various kinds of weightings. What I'm pretty sure of is that multi-players don't exclusively look for a MP game.
The aforementioned limits to player time are, however, more pronounced with MP games because you can't also pretty much play many MP games at the same time. MP games tend to cannibalise each other even more and have a potential death curve for overcrowding and undercrowding.
Making a SP game takes good creativity and certainly good craftmanship, but MP is a whole other level in game design.
How many MP games did Robbers create, by the way? Or any of the figureheads?

The old guard still marching out the door under OA. And taking their money with them...

I have spent hundreds on the game but I'm kinda over it now. There are games out there that are just as much fun but are not high maintenance, demanding and flaky. I don't care about it enough any more even to care about the hundreds I spent. ¯\(ツ)

I've spent more than my reasonable share on this game... You can be sure that i'm not going to spend a single cent more on it, at this point even if all the promises come true i don't think it deserves anymore of my money.

I backed in 2013 until 2019. Legatus rank [$25k - my bold]. I gave up Chris Roberts and the whole project. Since I backed I advocated for sc pu first and carry over assets to SQ42. They decided to put 80% of funding and eggs in sq42 basket. The whole project is a basket case. That said, all my pennies were fulfilled with great memories and people I met and played sc with. 30 I backed and now 41 years old. I’m officially pulling out from sc. good luck the backers and cr.

I was there for the initial live stream of Chris spruiking his dream game, paid $1000 into it buying up ships and the promises… that was 2012. What has been delivered, primarily, is a money making machine with built on ever stretching promises of what’s just around the corner… So much effort into selling virtual stuff, videos, production lines, and nolonger focus on delivering the ultimate product Squadron 42. I feel like someone got a taste for the money stream and got hooked. Gee wiz, look at Shroud of the Avatar for similar cash grabbing from Chris’ old mate “Lord British”. I only lost $50 on that one.

Yup 2.5k usd spent on sc. Not worth it, they should be sued at this point

I called the change "an obvious cash grab" (in a few different discussions) due to adding subscribers to wave 1, ensuring the whole change appears to be a simple ploy to get concierge to spend more money on subs. Got myself a 24 hour ban from Spectrum for my troubles. I'm just around the corner from becoming Wing Commander [$10k - my bold], and this whole debacle has left me wondering if this project is going in the direction I have been such a fan of for so long... Remembering the unannounced price hike of the Titan and Cutlass Black (that a lot of backers used as CCU tokens), and the sleazy marketing of gear kits to new players that will be lost on death.... Yeah, not impressed with CIG as of late.

I spent $1100 in 2021 to get into SC but I’m just gonna cut my losses and consider that money as a failed investment at this point. I’ll go spend my time in the Star Field universe instead for $70 😂

Yea yea yea.. Where's Squadron 42 which what they ran on at first to get us hooked and they had many years to release it and the single player game has nothing to do with the Multiplayer game. So I can careless about the Mutlip I just want the Single player game but secretly Chris R. told some that they make more money on getting people to buy ships then to release the SQ42. So yea not buying . I put well over a$1000. in that game not anymore was a backer from the start not anymore.

That's the second Legatus [$25k spent] 'leaver' I've seen in three days.

Let's just highlight that for a moment.

$25,000 spent.

I'm sure CIG can find more big spenders. But they seem to be losing some their current batch at an accelerated rate at the mo.

Uhmmmm… I could swear I saw him in New World lurking around a piramid spilling acid at over the place… he looked kind of… angry
We always wondered how the Tresher Maw travels the stars in Mass Effect, only to learn they also travel between franchises.
Well, not all franchises. But serious space game ones.

Has anyone seen Mr Sandwormy recently?

It seems the new exciting Rastar bases are digging down to look for it...

Or, like, reforming themselves into mechs or something...

I don't mind how people spend their money.

It's just that in this case, I can't understand it.

That's 500+ games, or one very nice car or a flipping amazing holiday or a new kitchen and possibly bathroom.

Nope. I really don't understand it.

But my dear Skiz - we got Sataball and Wurmies and TOW and Krakens and Polarises and BMM’s and alien languages and modding manuals and space ship-shaped USB sticks and expansion CD’s and 112 systems and jump gates and exploration gameplay and a FPS more lethal than COD!

And in 2015, which isn’t that far away now, we’ll get all that and MUCH more!

And many seem to bolden it. Sometimes you have to underline the amounts of money lost to brag how "rich" you are. From an objective point they are pretty big losers.

This forum handle of mine is actually one I registered at the SC forum, iirc. It's a quote of Stanislaw Lem short stories. I had "backed" Warframe and SC was a bit too good to be true at that time, so I chose to wait to see how ED would do and buy maybe in after some time after the launch. By the time powerplay released for ED it was discounted at Steam and I registered the same handle here. I've never logged in to SC forum again. It smelled fishy from the start.
