Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

MP games tend to cannibalise each other even more and have a potential death curve for overcrowding and undercrowding.
That is so true, it never occured to me before why they were competing with each other so much. I guess SC stepped into the wrong fight.

It seems the new exciting Rastar bases are digging down to look for it...

Or, like, reforming themselves into mechs or something...
I think CIG just fixed falling through floors the same way they fixed people complaining about roadmap.
And let's keep in mind this money is long gone and wasted. It didn't help the game progress to completion but gave CIG a mean to keep wasting money and lure more backers with too much money available and too little common sense.
Come on now, a good chunk of the money is sitting safely in the Roberts bank account. Can't expect the head of a big game studio to be living off minimum income.
No BG3 for me...turn based combat just doesn't float my boat at all. I'd play it for 5 minutes then shelf it...and BG3 deserves way more than that. :)

As for the SP v MP question...I'm distinctly in the SP camp for personal preference. My games playlist reads like one of a sad person with no mates living in a basement...The Last of Us 1 & 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Deus Ex : Mankind Divided™, Spacebourne 2, RDR2 single player, God of War...I'm sure you can see the pattern :)
My bad, thought you mentioned it and assumed you were playing it.
I don't like turn-based games either, but some of my favorite games are turn based so, yeah.
I've never really thought about it that way tbh, you do make a valid point. I was just looking at the SP vs MP aspect.
Sorry to qoute your comment, it was the most recent one in a long line of discussion about comparing SC to another game.
Until a few days ago I pretty much thought the only fair comparison was like-like ones, but I've changed my mind.

Camera director of XCOM2 was quite good. Didnt make you feel much like a turn-based game - it was very dynamic. The UI was quite sleek, too, which added to the cause. DoS2 had a quite unique combat system with various possibilities to create boom - that was the best part of it. And I hear Jagged Alliance made a new appearance.
Old Xcom Apocalypse had both and I mostly used real time combat to "get it done", but TB has a certain appeal of executing a plan and seeing it come to fruition more than RT probably delivers.

Imagine that: SC took so long that even the market taste might have shifted from action 3D to slow turn based pace?

Still offtopic, but if you want a compromise between the usual isometric view games like BG3 or DOS2 etc, but you don’t want turn based then I have to strongly recommend the quite refreshing Aliens: Dark Descent. The game really manages to get away with time dilation although you can also pause it, but no turns. It has a great story and it’s Alien to boot!

Time dilation has become a good addtion to RT action 3D games. I usually enjoy it in SP, but obviously it is not an option in MP since we can't be running different game speeds in the same instances.

But what do I know - the master Robbers might invent new magic tech to spoof the gullibers about that.

There's more chances CR will consequently implement having sex with your spacewhale plushy than fixing fondamental issues :)
It is fascinating to watch what CIG will come up with to distract their audience with next. They're always reactive though, form copying ship designs to features and mechanics, they're never the leader and innovator.

having never played anything like this at all, it did make the learning curve at the beginning a little steep. 🤣
Welp...downloaded the thing, got the digital deluxe version from GOG since that was the same price as the bog standard version on Steam. Love the story...absolutely loathe the turn based combat as anticipated...I also really dislike the camera controls, might need some tweaking or something :cautious:

Huh?
They're same price on both GOG and Steam 59.99+9.75

When it comes to turn based games, I like that "we-go" mechanics. For example classis "Combat Mission" series had that. Basically you give orders, enemy gives orders, and then they are executed in real time fashion....

Haha, there is a board game called Robo Rally where every player instructs robots to move and manouver. They plan then they execute. You cannot foresee "enemy" instructions so you might end up pushing a robot onto a conveyor belt which pushes another robo into you and you end up in a square facing a pit and your next instruction is "move forward 1 square".

Ah, Combat Mission was an awesome series. Betrays how old we are too 😋 Played the heck out of that. Mostly by mail. One of the best recreations of actual tactical WW2 combat at squad/platoon level in video games. Battles would rage for months.

Wouldn´t mind a modern remake. I was also an avid Advanced Squad Leader table top player.

Edit: As far as I am aware it is coming to Steam this year. As old as it is it is still standing.

God, I always lost at that. Probably because I was so tired after reading all the rules.

Salvaging was a really nice distraction :sneaky:
The next one should be Pyro ;)
