Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

A question regarding PC purchasing: the game is available on two launchers - Steam and the Microsoft app. If I buy the physical Premium Upgrade Edition (‘cos steel book case & other tat for my shelf) for the Xbox Series X/S, would this work with the Microsoft app version of the PC game?

It looks to me like it would work with PC Game Pass, but I’ve not been able to find any confirmation that it’d work with the MS app version (I’m assuming it wouldn’t work with Steam).

Xbox version won't work on PC at all. As much as gamepass is a cross platform storefront for PC and Xbox, the games have their own unique Xbox and PC editions.

If you buy the PC version from the PC version of the Xbox store...it'll work on PC 🤷‍♂️

Strange as it may seem...I never did experience the much maligned vanilla ending for ME3, by the time I got to the end of my first ever playthrough, the alternate ending(s) had already been patched in 🤷‍♂️

Same here. This year I finally finished the ME Trilogy for the first time. I accidentally "picked" the wrong ending though. Just like yesterday in Baldur's Gate 3 when I "finished" the adventure "early" 🤦‍♂️

Well, Bethesda games aren't exactly famous for their (main) storylines and characters, so I don't expect anything even close to ME or BG3. It's the open world experience of Bethesda games that entices me and made me play Skyrim or Fallout for years. I also really, really want to play a space game again. Elite is just too stuck in the old ways.

The synthesis is probably the "intended" one. The others are control and destroy. Actually there is a 4th one which I think went in with the updated endings, that is probably the "wrong" one you mean.
ME was very popular - the end of the trilogy pretty much cemented the end of the franchise. Which is good against milking stuff to death but bad when people would totally buy more stuff of that kind. BW "plans" to have another go at the franchise, but honestly - their talent isn't what it used to be and their output bears the seal of AAA: flashy bling - questionable gameplay quality.

Starfield is "XBox Play anywhere" so you buy it once, and you can play from either PC or XB and it will also be cross save (so sharing the same save no matter the platform - sure, that's valid for MS version, not for Steam version)

I thought cross platform gives you both versions.
This is where my confusion lies 😅

Someone else asked the same question here and has got yes/no as well.

Edit: thanks Northpin, I’m hoping that will be the case and the expansion upgrade code will be valid for PC 👍

Starfield is available on both platforms...it's not cross platform. Gamepass ultimate will grant you access to a copy for each platform (if you have both) with the one subscription, PC or Xbox... (ie) I can download and play the Xbox digital standard version on my Xbox series X as well as the PC digital standard version on my PC with the one subscription...but they're 2 separate versions. Play anywhere refers to cloud gaming...which is technically cross platform since it's tied to your gamepass ultimate account, but not physical or digital copies of the game.

I paid for the digital premium PC version of Starfield via the Xbox gamepass store (where I access all the PC versions of gamepass content), but that doesn't mean I automatically have access to the premium content for Starfield on my Xbox...I have the 'included with gamepass' digital standard version only...it's platform specific. If I wanted the digital premium content on my Xbox version of Starfield, I'd have to pay for it again.

Each version of the game will have a completely different UI for starters. Savegame sharing...well that's another matter entirely :)

that link clearly bears the "XBox Play Anywhere"
I dont think it can get more official than that.

(Edit: to be clear, your purchase for Premium Upgrade for XB will NOT be valid for the Steam game purchase, but only for the MS Store purchase)

I've played RDR2 recently and it is a masterfully crafted open world. But it's a finite world. They did good populating it and generate some random events - makes it lively, but you know it at some point. SF I find intriguing with more to explore. It's procedural and not as handcrafted - I don't expect RDR 2 quality but hope it's better than ED. And more interesting stuff to find. It's mostly barren rocks, I guess and that IS bland by nature - still, I hope there are just more varied PoIs and encounters.

I understand you get access to either PC or XBox version with a simple purchase. No gamepass required.
