Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

I've seen the petting zoo or farm pack getting a lot of track on YouTube lately, unfortunally. And not a Children's zoo pack with cool wild animals. A straight up farm pack with ponnies, rabbits, goats and pigs.
Not surprising. Children's zoo pack is forum exclusive thing without much support from generic audience. People truly want straight up farm with familiar goats and rabbits, because they know these animals and associate them with petting zoos.

Nobody has forgotten, but let's be real here, if the theme is 'Mountains' the image that will be conjured up is flowery, grassy mountain meadows and snow-capped peaks. The gelada is the monkey that fits there, not the Hamadryas baboon, which lives in arid environments. Call it defeatist or pessimistic if you like but I'm pretty certain the window of opportunity for the Hamadryas baboon closed with the Arid Pack. If we do get a 'baboon', it will probably be the 'not-really-a-baboon' gelada. Which kind of sucks, speaking personally.
I agree with this, but not just for the arid pack, if you look at the trailers of the other animal packs like the grasslands pack it stays in the same map and environment, so making the shift from a colder mountain peak to a hot desert isn’t something I can imagine they would do.

Only way I can see us getting the Hamadryas baboon now is if they do a localised Middle Eastern Pack, a true Desert Pack, or, completely out of left field, a full Primate Pack or Old World Monkey Pack or something.

How dare you?!

Which also doesn't sound so bad, you know
Yes it does. So boring. 🫤

Tbh is not that i'm 100% opposed to a farm/domestic pack but if we really have 2/3 DLC left then i do not want it at all. Is a waste opportunity for so many other animals imo. If we get confirmation of another full year of support then sure give us a domestics pack even if it is not something i'm interested in. At least in that case i still have hope for the other type of animals i want to make it into the game despite getting a full DLC dedicated to domestics.

Fun fact: its not.
Or atleast subspecies frontier chosen. In game wildebeest is famous subspecies from serengeti plains (western white-bearded wildebeest), which itself isnt found in european zoos at all.
I believe most captive specimens come from south africa (black-bearded subspecies).

Maybe in NA situation looks different, but I dont know.
Are they really? I mean, yeah, Southern blues have black beards, but doesn't the Western white bearded tend to have kind of longer beards?

Unfortunately I have to agree about the Hamadryas baboon, even though I’ve listed them for my own highlands pack it’s not likely.

If there’s some kind of finale/wrap up pack they’ll have a chance but otherwise, as with all hot and dry climate animals, it’s getting harder to see how they could make it in.

Frankly I have my doubts about the Hamadryas Baboon, Secretary Bird, Patagonian Mara, at this point.

I feel pretty similar. Im not at all against a petting zoo/domestics pack, but its not something i want if its just 2 more pack. If we get support for 2024. sure give it to me.
Also depends on whats actually in there, like dairy cow, normal chicken a domestic bunny? Nah. More exotic breeds like muscovy duck, dwarf goats, sumatra chicken? Yeah

I understand your point.

However, if we are to get a petting zoo/children's zoo/farm pack, then we'd likely get an update revolved around guests petting animals, feeding them, and maybe improved walkthrough behaviors?

Plus, the scenery would be things like tractors, hay bales, maybe even western pieces?

An update like that would be cool but that scenery doesn't excite me in the slightless either lol

How about:
For me personally I wouldn’t really be excited for a scenery theme like this. Although the only theme I want is a log cabin style theme cause I like to build realistic and modern.
We could use a log theme, also. It'd fit

It has been a hot minute since I shared mt thoughts here so here’s what I got:

  • While I am excited about the action on steam db, I still wouldn’t try to guess a time for the next update. Waiting for what was going to be the Twilight pack was annoying since I felt like the can has been kicked many times during fall.
  • We are definitely not getting an animal pack. I argue that this is a fact of life considering that we had two consecutive scenery packs (conservation and twilight) before but never two consecutive animal packs. It’s annoying but that’s just how it seems to happen.
  • Now I do believe we will be getting birds in the end game, but to avoid disappointment I just don’t expect birds soon either. However, considering that we do have walkthrough aviary in the base game I do hope that we get a free bird for the anniversary. But even that is too much and I still curb my expectations.
  • Considering that we had packs that revolve around zones with hot climates so far this year, I do expect frontier to shake it up a bit and have something from a cold climate zone, even if it is just one animal from a mixed bag type dlc like the conservation pack.
  • Following what I just said here are the animals (or animal types) that I expect for the dlc: wolverine and a caprid (markhor being the most likely imo).
  • Here are animals that I don’t expect as much but could still happen: a wild llama species, American black bear, Andean bear, pallas cat, gelada, rhea, Tasmanian devil (this one has low chances with regards to a cold climate theme imo but given the fan demand I could see frontier finding a way to slide the devil in), and the yellow-throated marten.
  • And here are the animals that I do not expect at despite the hope and discussions: walrus, secretary bird, hamadryas baboon. Not to mention many other animals that I didn’t list here because they either are from a warm climate or because they aren’t really under the radar of the community as much.
So here’s my thoughts of the next dlc. Im surprised that I don’t find myself as excited right now. Sorry for being a negative Nancy but part of me is nervous about the idea of support ending so I can’t hype myself as much as there is a chance that this might be one of the last packs we get before it is all ogre. :(
