SC Community: "stop comparing Starfield to Star Citizen and Squadron 404!!"

CiG better hope that somehow CitCon and the end of year sales are amazing. I have a hard time seeing that happening but we'll know soon enough.

I can already imagine a post-Starfield 'Con, it'll be Roberts taking snide pot shots at things like planets with limited map areas and acting as if the SC make believe wishlist items count as genuine features, all while the sycophantic fans sneer and cackle along like chimps. It's easy to attack a finished, released product when you don't have to back it up with anything of your own because "alpha". The faithful will be reassured that SC will be everything any of them ever dreamed of, and the coffers will be magically replenished.

Not this time. The congregation of chimps is shrinking.

Oops, I posted this in the Starfield thread accidentally. It belongs here.

So here is MY predictions for 2023 and 2024 (it's always a 2 year period with SC):
  • There is no SQ42 and there will never be.
  • CIG is going to implode before delivering another star system.
  • Vulkan cannot be shipped because the team is constantly desintegrating (the rats are leaving the sinking ship)
  • At some point the odd authority comes investigating, but Sandi will already have filed for divorce and the directors will have fled to countries that have non extrication to US and UK.
  • The mayor of Manchester will find out that the city has been frauded for tax benefits and turns to other entrepreneurs that really excel in what the city is best at: chester made of men

Oo, a new contender 😁

Some of this is way too sceptical for me. I'd go for:

* CIG will manage to get Pyro out. (It'll just be via placeholder networking tech which doesn't scale to 100 systems).

* SQ42 will come out. It'll be a 3/5 effort which doesn't feel particularly revolutionary or set PC gaming alight. (It will feature some launch bugs which will be familiar from the PU, and more will appear after updates. Mark Hamill memes will be a thing...)

I'm not putting any dates on those though, because CIG can always confound them ;)

Your description of the end of days sounds very possible though ;). Whenever it happens...

I was idly thinking that the only way to impress ppl would be to announce a SQ42 release date and multiple star systems in 4.0. With static server meshing adding five systems is no harder than adding one - it's just server costs and they presumably have multiple systems ready for SQ42 - riiight 🤔 )

.... then I watched Mike's react to that Shanghai Bar Citizen and it sounded like Chris was still expecting 'Pyro again!' to be enough, so now I realise I almost fell for dreams.txt :D

They bring Pyro out and there will be no networking tech, but a option to login specifically to the star system.

So are the content creators also fleeing the sinking ship? Avast and ho, for new shores we row?
This SC refugee wave can't be that big. It's maybe a trickle - a trickle of the disillusioned.
All the popular SC streamers have switched to playing SF.

50% of the 500odd viewers in the SC twitch category are "watching" two 24/7 rerun streams - by "watching" i mean in a separate tab, likely for giveaways).

Most of the comments on /r/StarCitizen are in threads discussing SF.

There are SC refugees commenting on /r/StarField.

It's fair to assume the 3.20 PTU isn't getting the necessary testing. And the Free Fly is very poorly timed.

I dunno about this one. Actors have been paid, mocap (as well as reshoots) have been done, and we've seen 'vertical slices' of gameplay.

I'd suggest that Squadron 42 exists, but in what state/form, is the questionable part.
