Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

People for sure are throwing random ideas without much sense. Most obvious and realistic options would be:
Mountains: despite people idea about mountains being bald rocks featuring only animals from cold climate, such pack in reality can offer animals from every single biome. It has to do with fact mountains are present all around the world and not just in northern hemisphere with smuggled SA bear. Example with most biome diversity for animal pack would be:
1. Tree Kangaroo sp: Rainforests
2. Hamadryas Baboon: Desert
3. Wolverine: Tundra
4. Darwin's Rhea: Grasslands
5. Takin ssp.: Temperate
6. Siberian Musk Deer: Taiga
7. Spectacled Bear (free spot)
8. Lake Titicaca Frog (E): Aquatic
Truly random, but it somehow can work.

Another concept with such potential are Islands. Again, islands are all around the world. Simple task.
1. Tree Kangaroo sp. Rainforests
2. Tasmanian Devil: Temperate
3. Musk Ox: Tundra
4. Vancouver Island Marmot: Taiga
5. American Flamingo: Aquatic (if 2 birds 2 much then cuban croc)
6. Nene: Grasslands
7. Radiatet Tortoise: Desert (it actually lives in spiny forest, but frontier would probably slap desert tag at it)
8. Panther chameleon (free spot)

And of course there is still legendary Bird Pack, but this one is obvious as always.
Mountains Pack:
  1. Yak.
  2. Spectacled Bear.
  3. Siamese Crocodile.
  4. Indian Leopard.
  5. Golden Snub Nosed Monkey.
  6. Blue Monkey.
  7. Blue Winged Teal.
  8. Black Mamba [E].
  9. Green Winged Macaw [WE].
  10. Great horned Owl [WE].
Islands Animal Pack:
  1. Galapagos Penguin.
  2. Tasmanian Devil.
  3. Echidna.
  4. Emerald Tree Monitor.
  5. Aye Aye.
  6. Sumatran Tiger.
  7. Wild Boar.
  8. Bali Myna [WE]

finally some one else gets it. There's so much more to the islands theme than just Oceania.
For sure. I have a harder time picking things for the Americas, but there are things like the Cuban Crocodile, Cuban Hutia, I'm sure other things as well. There's also several more Galapagos species to choose from.

In Africa, you've got the Aye-Aye, and if we went to Southeast Asian islands there's plenty to choose from. Though that does run a little close to Oceania.

Up a little from Southeast Asia you have Japan as well, which I think is defined as Northeast Asia - Serow or Raccoon Dog - (Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's correct). You also have the Nene Goose or Hawaiian Monk seal from Hawaii.

I'd love an Island theme and if we do get one I think and would be fine if Oceania's "obvious three" were pulled from it, but of the three I'm beginning to have doubts about the Tree Kangaroo (I hope I'm wrong, they're in my overall top 10 wants). But I wouldn't want an islands theme to be completely from Oceania.

@yoav_r - chances of South American animals? If it's Highlands - Spectacled Bear. beyond that the possible island species I mentioned above but beyond that not much. I really don't think this is going to be warmer weather inspired, unless they do go the Island route.

What do you think are the chances of gettung south american animals in the next pack? And whivh animals?

What would you put for all the packs though? 30 + 40 = 70 so (on your estimate) all other packs combined can only add to 30….

I think I misunderstood the assignment, hah! Here are my thoughts:
  • Temperate: 40%
  • Something non-biome related: 20%
  • Islands: 10%
  • Children/petting zoo/domestics: 10%
  • Arboreal: 5%
  • Highlands: 5%
  • Birds: 5%
  • Something else not on this list: 5%
Basically, we have several observed patterns that point to a temperate-style pack (e.g., all recent DLC have been biome-focused; the "corresponding" animal/scenery DLC theory) and several animals high up on the meta wishlist that would fit perfectly. And the non-biome pack would be a total curveball but could also incorporate some of those same picks.

I'm putting islands low because it's probably a scenery pack, and I feel like they're tapped out on potential/obvious island scenery. If it were an animal pack I might put it higher. Same for arboreal pack. Petting zoo/domestics is a total gray area (and I'd argue it could fall under "non-biome related" as well). Highlands is only so low because it feels like its more fitting for winter. And birds is... Birds.

But if you were to ask me again in 20 minutes, I feel like I might rank the possibilities differently. LOL

Just wanted to put out there. I don't get why everyone sticking to that it has be temperate then continental. I think temperate would have a lot more potential for an animal pack. And if we got continental scenery pack it could still have that paring with NA pack whole the temperate animal pack could boost Europe. I'm thinking something like this:

Wolverine
Musk ox
Walrus
Musk deer

I know it's 2 carnivores and 2 ungulates but i tried to pick ones that are unique to what we have already.

Haven't looked at climate chart for some time, but I'm not sure whether continental covers areas where Walrus and Musk Ox could be found. Or would it be rather Polar.

If we go by a community ""consensus"" that Contiental would actually be silent Mountains pack, then I would have to say that Mountains offer more exciting picks for an animal pack than temperate. Also temperate=autumn, mountains=winter kinda vibe

It does, along with the wolverine. Which is why I think they're more likely to just make it a "Polar/Tundra Pack" rather than "Continental" since it covers the same bases anyway (Continental has the advantage of also covering parts of Northeast Asia and the Himalayas, but not enormously significantly - the range of the markhor is excluded, for example).

I still think its going to be a pack that doesn't necessarily follow the climate charts but instead follow the ingame biomes which do match up closely so either a temperate or taiga pack since tundra is likely going to be the December pack.
