Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Funny,… for me, other than general zoo scrnery, it’s almost the only remaining worthwhile and obvious scenery set (Polynesian).
I would argue that all of the pieces to build in that style are already in-game. I just don't see a way for them to implement that general scenery set without feeling super redundant with pieces that are already in-game. Obviously they could add a new roof set and some new beams to make that a bit easier but... Making a full pack out of it would feel like a stretch, I think.

That aside, I agree that we don't need any more "themed" scenery sets. Give me general wildlife and/or zoo clutter, new wall/floor textures, and so on - and I'm good! That's one of the reasons why I'd be comfortable with a Domestics/Children's Zoo pack or whatever - it's a guaranteed clutter pack! (Which we always need more of, IMHO!)

It does, along with the wolverine. Which is why I think they're more likely to just make it a "Polar/Tundra Pack" rather than "Continental" since it covers the same bases anyway (Continental has the advantage of also covering parts of Northeast Asia and the Himalayas, but not enormously significantly - the range of the markhor is excluded, for example).
I just like continental more cause it could focus more on taiga over the more frigid areas and also cause Arctic kinda felt like the polar pack to me. Oh, and it's an excuse for me to shove in the Siberian Musk deer lol.

Another scenery set What a stupid idea! Who on earth wants new roof pieces.jpg

Oh, well there you go, thanks for that

Assuming this would be for Winter not this next pack, if the pattern theory is correct it could potentially correspond towards balancing out the Europe pack as well. the Wolverine is actually a great inclusion since it would give us a fairly popular North American animal as well as a fairly popular European and Asian animal as well. This is actually a perfect idea you've got there.

One thing I don’t understand is why the idea of a Polar or Tundra pack is getting more popular than a Highlands Pack for winter. Isn’t that what everyone wanted a month ago? Plus a Polar pack feels more like a mirror of the Arctic Pack, not Europe. Highlands fits with the colder temperature Europe had but isn’t covered in snow and ice. Wolverine, Pallas Cat, Markhor, Takin, Spectacled Bear they all fit in a Highlands Animal Pack, the Polar Animal Pack would exclude a couple of these wouldn’t it? I know the 2 ideas are related, but aren’t they different in some way? Or is it just the label?

Once again, because based on the clues, the only good theory we've got is that Autumn = Temperate and Winter = Continental/Polar. Neither of these biomes really touches on "highlands" and "highlands" doesn't fit in with the theory.

I said this yesterday, but it comes down to the Koppen Climate Map. If the Arid Animal Pack had been called something else - "Desert Animal Pack" or "Drylands Animal Pack" - then sure, something like "Highlands" for winter might feel more likely, but starting with "Tropical" and going onto "Arid" is super conspicuous - a very unlikely coincidence.

Come Tuesday I imagine we'll know for sure what the plan is.

This is me except with plank sets. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'm not sure it's "getting more popular" so much as its what 4-5 people in this thread have been discussing for the last few hours. ;) I'm being a bit facetious but there was a point where the idea of a domestics pack could have been gaining traction if you paid attention to this thread for a few days and then left.

Anyway, you're spot-on. A "polar" or "tundra" pack, particularly as a final animal pack would be extraordinarily underwhelming. And it's definitely pretty distinct from what a "taiga" or "highlands" pack would be. I wouldn't worry about it, though... There aren't enough tundra or polar animals to really justify a pack like that. The drop-off is pretty steep after you get beyond walrus, musk ox, and wolverine (the latter of which would feel like a stretch to me, and would fit much better in several other pack formats, IMHO).

The Continental biome covers the taiga zone and parts of the Himalayas. A "Continental" Pack could include the wolverine, muskox, takin, walrus, Pallas cat, five popular animals.

I wouldn't write it off.
Serious question: Do you think an average person on the street would know what "Continental" is referring to in this context? I had to look it up today because I'd never heard the term in that context, and even after looking at the definition I still wasn't very clear what it was referring to. So I asked two of my co-workers, and my partner, who also had no idea...

Maybe it's possible, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's not in the mix for a pack name as its not a commonly used term.

Or maybe me and the three other people I talked to today about it are fully out of the loop?

If it is Woodlands this time around, these are the 5 animals I want to see:

Woodlands Pack:

Scenery: Native American Architecture (Totems, Tipi and various other aspects of Native American Culture) this would hypothetically be the scenery version of the North America Animal Pack.

Tasmanian Devil
American Black Bear
North Island Brown Kiwi
Elk or Red Squirrel
Pileated Woodpecker (I think they would be good for the walkthroughs, would add some cool ambience too)

Alternatives include the Short-Beaked Echidna, Wild Boar, Golden Pheasant, Sugar Glider and various others.

Then the next pack could be a Highlands or Continental Pack, with species of the Taiga and Mountain biomes, and would be a great animal pack version of the Europe Pack, just

Highlands/Continental Animal Pack:

Wolverine
Spectacled Bear
Takin (New Feature: Selectable Subspecies)
Gelada
Golden Pheasant or Himalayan Monal
Markhor
Pallas's Cat
Chinese Giant Salamander

Coming off the manatee discission, question to all: What are your pet peeves when it comes to speculation threads/wishlists/discussions on the forum?
The "Not in captivity, not in the game" community.
I understand that a Kakapo or a Great White Shark cannot be in a real zoo, but that's the point, It's a freacking game, not the reality. This is not the real life, this is a game, for the love of god 😂. The "They aren't in captivity", or "They cannot be added because they are so threatened in real life and you disrespect them" makes me angry like nothing can make me.

Good point, I’m still sticking to a Highlands Pack. Mountains and Tundras are similar as both are found in some overlap.
wolverine, muskox, takin, walrus, Pallas cat, five popular animals.
I’m not really that much of a fan of Walrus, it’s an iconic animal, that’s it. It’s not found in zoos, and I know I won’t use it. I would rather another seal. I would still rather a Highlands Pack so it can fit everything in:
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Wolverine
  • Baboon Species (Gelada or Hamadryas)
  • Golden Pheasant or some species of bird
  • Pallas Cat
  • Markhor
  • Sichuan Takin
  • Bald Eagle (Non-Walkthrough Exhibit)

Funny,… what annoys me is people confusing this can be in the game with whether people want in the game…. I don’t want either of those because they’re not kept in captivity - that may not be one of your criteria but it is one of mine for what I want… no one is saying they can’t be added and no one is saying you can’t / shouldn’t want them added… we’re saying we don’t want them added.
