Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Funny,… what annoys me is people confusing this can be in the game with whether people want in the game…. I don’t want either of those because they’re not kept in captivity - that may not be one of your criteria but it is one of mine for what I want… no one is saying they can’t be added and no one is saying you can’t / shouldn’t want them added… we’re saying we don’t want them added.
I should haved explained myself better 😅.
I understand that pov. I know that the vast majority of you don't force everyone to have your think, I should commented that on my post.
But that explanation is enough for me to understand your point of view👍

Once again, because based on the clues, the only good theory we've got is that Autumn = Temperate and Winter = Continental/Polar. Neither of these biomes really touches on "highlands" and "highlands" doesn't fit in with the theory.

I said this yesterday, but it comes down to the Koppen Climate Map. If the Arid Animal Pack had been called something else - "Desert Animal Pack" or "Drylands Animal Pack" - then sure, something like "Highlands" for winter might feel more likely, but starting with "Tropical" and going onto "Arid" is super conspicuous - a very unlikely coincidence.

Come Tuesday I imagine we'll know for sure what the plan is.

While looking at these packs in a vacumn yes it looks like it follows the koppen climate map but I thinks its actually following the ingame biomes which do closely follow the koppen climate map. I say this because before the tropical pack was the grasslands pack one of the ingame biomes and not part of the koppen climate map. This would also make sense since the previous major theme was a pack for every ingame continent. And while yes arid animals is not desert animal pack every animal is a desert animal and in the last major pattern continents they did change the names and theming slightly ie australia and south east asia. I think why it wasn't called desert animal pack was so people didn't whinge about it not having any cold desert animals and arid can also include non desert grasslands animals so why were none included.
It will literally be impossible to tell which pattern its following till next year unless the next pack is straight up called taiga pack.

The "Not in captivity, not in the game" community.
I understand that a Kakapo or a Great White Shark cannot be in a real zoo, but that's the point, It's a freacking game, not the reality. This is not the real life, this is a game, for the love of god 😂. The "They aren't in captivity", or "They cannot be added because they are so threatened in real life and you disrespect them" makes me angry like nothing can make me.
I get it when its way too impractical to keep in a zoo like the great white or when its extremely cruel to the animal like orcas.
There are so many animals were its just because its hard to keep them or they are too rare for most zoos to have access to them that people can not fathom the idea a game would let you keep them like the people who got made at the bengal tiger saying that only siberian tiger is commonly kept so should have been the only tiger or people who were against the platypus because it isnt common outside australia. If the only reason an animal isn't kept in zoos is availability of it or its food I dont see why it cant be in the game.
I do firmly stand against the inclusion of animals that cannot survive captivity such as the great white shark and orca as even though the are occasionally kept in reality they do not live long or healthy lives and I do not want to promote their existence in zoos within the public consciousness.
Another point about the kakapo and animals like it which are either banned from or are hard to find outside a given country or region does not mean it should be excluded from a zoo game literally called planet zoo I think its actually the complete opposite because for many people this may be the only way people may see the animal represented anywhere and if you want to stick to reality only add it to zoos you make in the region its found in.

Then why did they call it the "Arid Animal Pack" instead of the "Desert Animal Pack"? There's no "arid" biome in the game. That's the whole point - the choice of the name "Arid", especially after "Tropical", is very conspicuous and feels very deliberate, and as far as biomes go, only the Koppen climate model refers to it as "arid".

Anyway this isn't a religion and I'm not a priest so I don't care what anyone buys into or doesn't. We'll probably find out on Tuesday anyway, after the livestream, whatever Frontier is planning.

even though I did say why they may have chosen the name arid over desert how do you explain the grasslands pack then? Also the term arid is used outside of the koppen climate model especially colloquially to refer to any consistently dry or barren land irrespective of whether it falls within the arid region in the koppen model.
also with your logic the south east asia and australia packs weren't continent pack because the aren't the names of the continents.

either way the packs will be almost identical a temperate pack followed by a polar/tundra pack and a continental/taiga pack

Currently the only species in the game that hasn't been successfully kept in captivity is the Titan beetle, and I'm willing to bet that Frontier just googled "big beetles" when they added it to the roster without any further consideration. As far as habitat animals go it's clear that at least some captive presence is a necessary criterion. You can want what you want, but I can guarantee you most of the species that aren't in captivity that people want in the game won't make it in (including the kakapo).

I hope that both lasting packs of 2023 would be something that no one really expects like Coastal pack with manatee and walrus or Birds pack with a lot of ground and WE birds. I really think that everything is possible.

And next year they would move to missing biomes with Temperate DLC and Continental animal pack.

Agreed… I feel like it’s due time that things get ‘mixed up’ with a non-biome, non-continental pack - see aquatic, conservation, twilight….

I think the game will continue to get support in 2024. But the September report would clarify things.

I know that there’s evidence for two more packs this year (including the upcoming one) and anniversary animal due to game files, but what do you think as to more DLC coming in 2024? Likely or will game development finish this year? Just curious to see what people think.
Kinda hard to tell just yet. I could see it go either way, honestly.
