Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

I personally think the tropical pack was perfect with its roster. 4 highly requested animals in, at least 3 of them being in the top 10 of the meta wishlist. The monitor was the wildcard and honestly it was pretty good for me. Maybe it was a set up for the 2023 scenery packs to divide the continents 3 each?
The AWM is my least favorite animal in game. So, far from a perfect roster IMO...
Also, the sloth is barely represented in captivity (although it was at some point the wanted species so I appreciate Frontier listening to the fan base.)

I think we'll be lucky if Oceania gets any representation for a temperate pack where north america and europe really dominate the temperate biome.
Thinking that getting at least 1 if not 2 animals from Oceania is actually pretty likely in a temperate pack. Both the Tasmanian Devil and Northern Brown Kiwi are in temperate biomes and I cannot imagine not getting at least 1 of them. If the whole theory of "support for the 2021 continent theme" is true, we should see another couple of North American animals as well, to leave the winter pack offsetting the Europe pack. That of course is just a theory.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble but the chances of a temperate pack in Q3 getting it is almost close to 0 percent. A bit of common sense would tell you that.

Maybe wait till next year at earliest, for example we got the red deer in November 2022 after the Europe Pack deer in Q4 2021. That's about the earliest possibility.
We also got the Fallow deer directly after the Moose. And those two are more similar then the 2 porcupines.

Agreed - Oceania got nothing in an arid pack (which it’s best known for) - why would anyone expect it to get something in a temperate pack?… Frontier’s globe doesn’t even acknowledge that there are temperate regions anywhere in Oceania.

Not having any monkeys (other than birds, the most needed group in the game) meant that the roster, for a tropical pack, was a loooooong way from optimal IMO.

Same for me, it wouldn't have been my monitor species of choice but I was thrilled to get one at all, especially since it looks so good. Just got my fingers crossed another varanid or two makes it into the game before development finishes.
Honestly for rigging purposes one of the things I want most is probably a climbing rig for lizards. That alongside a freshwater turtle, waterfowl and tree kangaroo then I'll be really happy with our rigs.

At least we got a primate, the way I look at it is that there is only 4 habitat animals, no matter what animals they choose, people will complain one animal or another didn’t make it in.
I don't get the complaint of no monkeys in tropical. It's obvious we didn't get one cause we got the lar gibbon. If anything it made it so we had more diversity in the pack rather than 2 primates.

I think its more of Southeast Asia has better primate representation with south america getting the short end of the stick as usual. Since we already had the siamang that filled the need for the lar gibbon, getting something like a spider monkey would of made the tropical pack much more appealing on the primate front at least.

I think the point is a monkey instead of the gibbon. Which i totally get.
Dont get me wrong i love the lar, but it super weird to get a second gibbon instead of a monkey, especially with the dumpsterfire that is SA

If there is ever the opportunity for them id also add honey bees and a couple native fish

But with unlimited slots id probably add just every species in existence :D
Wow, that is almost exactly what I would‘ve wrote! (Though Hedgehogs and squirrels would also be amazing!)

Yeah they are cool, although to small to be habitat animals imo
Yeah, Squirrels would be pretty funky with the climbing system, and they‘d be too shy to be WE, wouldn‘t they?

Hedgehogs could work I think, we‘ve got other small animals like the meerkat or prairie dog. And, while I don‘t know about the more "hardcore" playerbase on these forums, they‘re probably in the same category as Raccoons, "cutesy temperate animals really popular with casuals". Honestly, thinking about it, it would‘ve been a really cool pick for the Twilight pack, but alas…

I'm willing to bet the moment we get the ABB the americans on the forum are going to move the goalposts again and declare the coyote or whatever "the only animal left to complete north america".
Not really. I think I've pretty consistently said that ABB and a temperate bird or two (I'm flexible on which) are the only things I desperately need for the temperate zone. The bighorn sheep is borderline essential to me personally, but definitely not as critical as some things from other continents.
The arctic (all of these aren't just found in NA) needs a wolverine, musk ox, sea otter, and walrus. I don't personally need the last one, and the wolverine is the only critically needed one in my eyes.
Which actually leads me to a question: say you get unlimited roster slots to complete the roster for your country's wildlife. What do you pick?
Unlimited animals I would pay for in rough order of want from my country and territories:
  • Need: Bald Eagle, Snowy Owl, American Black Bear, Wolverine, Scarlet Ibis, Burrowing Owl, Wild Turkey, Sea Otter, Bighorn Sheep, Musk Ox, Wood Duck
  • Strong Wants: Green Sea Turtle, Manatee, Collared Peccary, Alligator Snapping Turtle, Wapiti, Grey Fox, Roseate Spoonbill, Raven, Porcupine, Bobcat, Ribbon Seal, Golden Eagle, American Flamingo, San Francisco Garter Snake
  • Nice to have: Rocky Mountain Goat, River Otter, Nene, California Condor, Snowshoe Hare, Black Footed Ferret, Ringtail, Sturgeon (if we get fish), Thorny Toad, Eastern Copperhead, Coral Snake, Roadrunner, White Tailed Deer, Red Tailed Hawk
  • Maybe passerines? I don't picture them being added, but we have a pretty good set if so: Painted Bunting, Eastern Blue Jay, Cardinal, Baltimore Oriole, Cedar Waxwing, Goldfinch, Eastern Bluebird, Western Tanager, and Steller's Jay would be cool.

For me the last remaining animals missing from the game are as follows:

North America - missing Black Bear

South America - missing an animal pack with 2-3 monkey species

Europe - missing 3 or 4 forest dwelling animals, notably Wolverine

Asia - missing a himalayan goat species and small deer species

Oceania - missing tasmanian devil and kiwi

Africa - missing Secretary Bird, a Baboon species and Chameleon

Difficult for me to get excited about anything else beyond that so if they do continue into 2024 a bird or fully aquatic expansion would be required for me. We can only live in hope!
