Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

What time is it for our Aussie and Kiwi folks? (Those are ok terms, right?) Right now it's 11 pm, and I should be getting ready to sleep, but the Texas drought-heat is telling me not to.
Just curious how much time y'all have to wait for announcements
Currently just after 1600. 4:12pm to be exact.

Edit: Hopefully the DLC reveal will occur somewhere during my shift tonight. That is if I survive to even see. Night shifts are absolute murder on someone who struggles to sleep during daylight hours.

It’s just past 1:30 pm for me, DLC reveals tend to come around 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm (occasionally earlier like with Conservation). So still a little while yet, just trying (and struggling) to keep myself occupied until then.
Ugh I know the pain, I planted out my melon seedlings, checked the chickens, did a water run for the sheep and cattle, took some photos (saw a red backed kingfisher and a male splendid Wren, nice!) Made smoothies and brownies And did the housework and I still have hoursssss.... Maybe I'll finally sketch a map for an Australian zoo. I haven't actually done one yet.

For me It Is 10pm, Is so early still, but the The best part is that when I wake up they will have already announced the DLC or it will be announced in the next few minutes, so I don't have to suffer how the hours will pass slowly, for the hype!!

I sorely doubt that.

Plus, let's face it, there's not a lot left in the rest of the temperate world (bar Asia) to cover. The American black bear and wild boar aren't hugely popular, even on this forum, no matter how often the same people bring them up.
...
...

I think you're wrong on both counts here.

People are, unfortunately, woefully misinformed on New Zealand. "Hawaii with hobbits" is how I think many who haven't visited picture it, and despite there being snow in that movie, many are absolutely gobsmacked to learn that snow actually happens there. I'm not saying this is right or correct, but it is probably something that would effect marketing.

As for temperate in rest of the world...
Black bear with color variants, boar or peccary, large pheasant or waterfowl, wolverine. Flying squirrel for the exhibit? Horizontal wood wall set.

It would sell.

You vastly overestimate how badly people want the bear, boar, or even the peccary (which is really not associated with temperate forests anyway), and the meme of waterfowl is mostly present only here. As for the pheasant or wolverine, they could appear in another pack easily (and again, only tangentially associated with the temperate zone; most consider pheasants tropical since they by-and-large exclusively occur in South China and Southeast Asia, aside from a few outliers, and wolverines are definitely more associated with boreal/taiga forests and tundra zones), and I literally cannot recall a time I've seen anyone asking for a flying squirrel.

The building set was never even in question so I'm not sure why you mentioned it. I myself have defended Temperate as a suitable building theme with that very option (among others).

I'm just saying, this could be a Temperate Pack. Every animal we're mostly sure about occurs in the temperate zone. Whether it is or not is merely a few hours of waiting away, but not wanting it to be doesn't make it any less possible.

Why not? The Arid pack was only for African animals (with some that just happened to cross into the Middle East).
Assuming we're right about the animals... People don't associate them with the climate/biome they live in so much as the region they're from. And when people think "temperate" its probably most likely to evoke images of woodland creatures from NA/Europe, and maybe even Asia. Pine trees, wolves, bears, weasels, deer, foxes, those sorts of animals. That's just what comes to mind first. Or even second. Or third. And it would feel incomplete to have a pack with that label that didn't include at least some NA, Europe, and/or Asia representation.

So why go with that when there's at least two other more accurate names sitting right there that do more closely link up with the species in the pack... That would leave that other name open for a potential pack in the future?

Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen, I guess. But it would be a very strange look and wouldn't make sense from a marketing standpoint. It would probably confuse people when they read the species description and saw they were all just from one part of the world. Versus just calling it an "Islands" or "Oceania" pack which is pretty much what it is, anyway, regardless of what they call it.

And, TBH, the "Arid" pack 'worked' in that regard because when people think deserts... Most people think of camels. And each of the species are more linked with "deserts" than Africa (if that makes sense). But they didn't call it a desert pack so I think that was part of the problem too. LOL

With regards to bats - just watch as Frontier adds the common blossom bat, an even smaller species than the Egyptian fruit bat which is solitary and has no captive representation at all. Seems like just the sort of goofy inclusion they would enjoy.

As I feel targeted and annoyed at the moment.

I am VERY pleased that some members are potentially getting several animals that they like in this pack. They aren't at the top of my list but they seem neat, will be good models, and I am happy for their fans.

It is okay if some people do not like certain animal(s) or even entire continents worth of animals, but it is very obnoxious to constantly bring up how you think those species are terrible/unpopular/wasted slots when you know that this is not a universal opinion. Even more so when said animals are not currently in the game and an animal you like is about to be added.

On a different subject, which random "cerulean pebble" would you prefer and why?

1. Little blue penguin
Little penguin FTW. It’s the one animal that’s making me most restless for the announcement - it definitely feels like the most likely option given everything (from the blue colouration to it just fitting with the temperate* Oceanian theme more than the other options), but I’m also worried about the potential of it missing out on its one and only real chance of making it into the game. It’s just such an important species for both southern Australia and NZ and I’d really like to finally bring penguins into most of my zoos.

*Before anyone asks I definitely don’t think this is going to be called the Temperate Pack lol
