Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

If it's a flying fox, it's probably the Rodriguez if they're doing islands, or the little red if they're doing Oceania.
I agree the rodrigues is more likely would as they are endemic to Mauritius, really common in captivity, and endangered. They are technically from Africa so I would personally prefer an Asian species since we already have the Egyptian fruit bat.

I hadn't heard of the little reds! I just looked them up and they are sooo cute!

Whether it's a 2nd bag or a bird, I'm happy. I'd prefer the lorikeet, but the bat would be nice for variety.

I'm actually more curious about the update. I mean, a bubble dome and orangutan brachiation isn't all of it, right? It seems small in comparison (even though it's way cooler than last update)
I know! I'm sure there's at least one more feature! I'm hoping we get an announcement tomorrow!

Part of me is wondering of they'll pull a Conservation Pack and announce the DLC first, then the update on Wednesday. I mean if they just want to announce both tomorrow, I don't think anyone will complain.

I was thinking about the reason of why they didn't show the update before the livestream and if It Is like the conservation pack that they update was a spoiler of the dlc and maybe also this time, like a new island mal in the free update, that if they had shown in the next update it would be a very big spoiler for this dlc, if it turns out to be an island pack

But really i dont know and honestly its excinting because we dont know almost nothing

To me, there's three possible scenarios for this rationale:

  1. There's at least one thing in the update that would "spoil" the DLC surprise. What that might be I'm not entirely sure, though. I really can't think of what it might be. Everything that comes to mind is something they've just not announced with the free update and explained with the DLC (new exhibit size) or they just don't announce them at all until the pack drops (various foliage and scenery items that have come out of seemingly nowhere, e.g., mesh and eggs). EDIT: Forgot! A new island map would do it! But that depends on the formal theme/name they go with.
  2. Second possibility is that the rest of the free update is relatively small so they wanted to highlight the bigger new bits in the livestream knowing the "pop" they would get in a live setting. And, really? Showcasing the orangutang on video was the way to go. It cut out all the speculation about whether or not they'd actually nail it (which they did).
  3. Third is that they really did just want to try something different to get people talking... And the free update has a few more things that'll surprise people! But they dropped the ones they thought might hype people the most/look good during the live stream.
And, interestingly, I remember people asking if they thought Frontier was going to use videos for the reveals at one point. Given how well that paid off for the orangutang today? They might!

You know, I'm hoping there's still room for the tuatara somwhere in the future. The kiwi and (if it proves true) the little blue penguin are 2/5 pieces of the NZ puzzle. The tuatara is the third animal. Then all I need is a bit of foliage (which could come in this update/DLC) and for New Zealand on the front-end globe to be made a temperate zone (which, one day, I hope can be modded in, since Frontier has said they're never going to change it after they bowed to the CCP that one time).

Also, has it occurred to anyone else that everything in this DLC still falls under the Temperate climate? I get that 'cocktails' and the (maybe) penguin are making everyone think 'Islands', but the devil, kiwi, (probably) quokka, and even the little blue penguin, would all be temperate biome animals. It could very well still just be a Temperate Pack.

Assuming we're correct about all (or even most) of these animals I don't see them implementing a temperate pack that only represents that quadrant of the planet and close that off when they could just as easily call it an Islands or Oceania pack and leave temperate open for other options.

The animals in play just aren't very "top of mind" when people think about a temperate climate in the context of this game.

The egyptian fruit bat is an asian species
I should have clarified. I mean a species endemic to Asia. I find myself building Asian jungle domes, so to have a species from tropical Asia would be very useful to me. I use the Egyptian fruit bat more for one off bat exhibits or nocturnal houses.

The mocktail names

"Firecracker punch" has chili's, likely Tassie devil
"Sunshine smile", decorated with passionfruit. Could be quokka, could be tree kangaroo. Hang on, aren't tree kangaroos found on the sunshine coast?
"Getaway Glow" made entirely of kiwi. 👀 Maori Scenery? Pls?
"Cerulean Pebble" a very blue and icy drink that looks like an iceberg. Thinking little blue penguin, but it'd be funny if it was a walrus (likes cold water, lives on rocky shores, as rocky shores/coastlines was mentioned"
"Citrus Blossom" mango drink with flower decorations. Personally I think a fruit bat, but could be many parrots. Or a possum. Possums eat fruit, and can be coastal.

Why not? The Arid pack was only for African animals (with some that just happened to cross into the Middle East).
I see it, but I think it was easier to get away with it in the Arid pack than it is with a hypothetical Temperate Oceania pack. I think many people (and I used to think this before I learned about them) would consider the Tasmanian devil and kiwi tropical animals, not necessarily temperate

What time is it for our Aussie and Kiwi folks? (Those are ok terms, right?) Right now it's 11 pm, and I should be getting ready to sleep, but the Texas drought-heat is telling me not to.
Just curious how much time y'all have to wait for announcements

Nah, in Australia they only live in the Wet Tropics of far north Queensland.
Yeah so more Daintree and Cape York. Haven't been up that way yet as my car would hate it, but oh am I so keen too. Fair, I thought sunshine coast as Australia zoo is up that way.

Am Australian in QLD, it's just past 2pm. We have a few different time zones tho.

It’s just past 1:30 pm for me, DLC reveals tend to come around 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm (occasionally earlier like with Conservation). So still a little while yet, just trying (and struggling) to keep myself occupied until then.

I sorely doubt that.

Plus, let's face it, there's not a lot left in the rest of the temperate world (bar Asia) to cover. The American black bear and wild boar aren't hugely popular, even on this forum, no matter how often the same people bring them up.
