The link should not point to any .exe and you definitely don't want to be running random unsigned executables. I think you must have clicked on some add or something that I'm not seeing (adblockers).

I didn't upload a self-extracting archive, just a normal .7z file. I don't like self-extracting archives, and I'm operating under the assumption that anyone able to figure out how to play 50-70Mbps 4k60 HDR videos encoded with AV1 and put in matroska containers can manage to open a 7-zip archive.

Sounds like an adbot or something putting links to malware that seem like the target file. Anyway, I can't find anything wrong with the link on my end, but I put a warning in my post to let people know not to download anything other than "Starfield DLSSG+HDR examples.7z".
Well, this is what I see when I click the link you posted. I chose the first option (free download), and got that .exe file I mentioned. What should I have clicked, if not that?

That's also what I see, but when I click 'free download', then 'slow download is fine', I get the file listed, which is a .7z.

Something unusual is going on if you're being redirected to an executable.

I fast traveled back to base, and dismantled my scanning array.
I'm just now getting into scan boosters. I've built a small aluminum mine to experiment with the outpost construction process, and it's working OK and I'm making some side money from it.

But I've been wondering if there is a way to see the resource cost of outpost buildings anywhere, aside from on the surface trying to place them? Would be nice to be able to plan out my required resources ahead of getting on-site for construction.

I just took notes while in the build screen.

Did you try Inara? I know it has a Starfield section, but I've not explored it yet.

On the topic of ships, my character is still flying a converted Crimson Fleet Ghost that I originally captured a few hours into the game:

Nothing strictly cosmetic on the ship, though I did avoid some hardware placement and omissions that didn't make sense to me. For example, it lets me remove the tail landing gear when there is no way it should be balanced otherwise, and I didn't dangle any fuel tanks in front of the engine exhaust ports, even though the guys at the shipyard say that's kosher.

I ran into issues upgrading the Frontier early on, but the crappy little Ghost has really strong landing gear so has taken the upgrades in stride. It's got a 200+ damage particle beam alpha that it can repeat 1.5 times a second indefinitely, and I haven't found any six ships that can stand against it. On top of that it can still cross half of the game in one tank of fuel, while carrying 2k units of cargo, and has jammers that give it an 80%+ chance of evading contraband scans.

Probably going to swap out the turret on the top as it's caused me to reload the game a few times after accidentally destroying security ships while trying to engage hostiles.

It's pretty crowded inside, and some of the passengers make comments about cleaning their rooms, which doesn't make any sense as everyone has to bunk together on the floor of the landing bay.
That’s a cool little ship!!

I’ve taken to using 6 Vanguard Obliterator particle weapons … only 11 damage each (so 66 total) but that’s to both shields and hull and the fire rate is 6.5 …. very fun, and having only one weapon type means more pips to go round!

I'll put this one behind spoiler tags just in case. Those who've visited this particular place will know why...those who haven't can just enjoy the pretty picture without context

Good looking character. While I've not experienced that critter on the right, I have visited this place probably ten or twelve times now. :)

About the ships: Had a unmodified Shieldbreaker for a bit but it's too big for me. I've not done much in the way of ship mods, nor have I tried ship building. For me, the Guardian VI works really well as I spend a good percentage of my time in my ship, it's fast, and it's murder on pirates. Not much of an interior though, nor is it upgradeable past level 6 (or whatever they call it).

It's all good though, as I'm still having fun.

I tried and got the redirect, it tried to get me to download an .exe "update" for Firefox and refused to continue until I did, curious indeed. There's something funny going on there, it may be browser related, what browser are you using?

Yeah, that has to be some malicious ad I'm not seeing.

I tested in both Firefox and Edge, both with uBlock Origin with almost all of the included filters checked (and I'm disinclined to see whats there if I turn the ad blocker off). I don't get any redirects at ufile, it's two clicks and it downloads what I uploaded. ufile is generally well regarded, but none of these free hosting sites are very picky about the ads they allow--even when they pull malicious ones, they'll crop up again--but no one with a working ad blocker should see them at all.

Ok tried a second time and this time it worked fine, I run Ghostery which was telling me it was blocking a couple of strange sites as well as the usual google analytics etc, but this time no strange popup, so it may be a randomly selected ad for the site that doesn't show on every connection and that is being blocked by uBblock origin. I don't blame you for not wanting to test with it off, there's definitely something odd there.

SSD Usage In Starfield Is Causing Stuttering Issues: Report

"Starfield's intrinsic use of low queue depths and small block sizes is very unusual. Compusemble reports that many games today read from storage drives in large block sizes to hit SSDs where they perform best. For instance, Microsoft recommends a block size range anywhere between 32-64k and very high queue depths for DirectStorage support. Starfield does not have DirectStorage support, but you don't need to optimize a game with Microsoft's storage API to make it work with this more appropriate IO workload."

Bethesda said they'll add Nvidia DLSS support so I'll wait for an official update.

Alright, I loaded on older save and just motified the Dawnstar for ~150k credits instead of building a new ship from scratch for ~350k credits

I replaced the weapons (I'm still not too happy with them right now), put in C-class Grav Drive and Reactor, gave her an engine overhaul and shuffeld around some bits and bobs. Put in some fresh paint and she feels like an entirely new ship. Only downside is, whenever you modify your ship, all items on display or in containers are thrown into the cargobay. I think I'll test the tip I read earlier in this thread about using 2 rather than 3 weapon systems. More power to the pips

I recommend this mod Better Shadow Coverage which improves the shadows in the environment. It has minimal impact on performance.

You can get free stuff from Shepherd's General Store in Akila city with this exploit:

Finished the main quest, decided against New Game + and went with a brand new character for second playthrough. I'm going to look for questlines I missed first time. I deliberately didn't do everything as I never liked the fact you could become master of every guild in Skyrim in one playthrough and I didn't want to rise to top of every faction here
