So play in Solo mode. Where's the problem?
The lack of Offline Mode only affects people who don't have an internet connection.

I do, and will continue to play it like that. However, the impression I've got from the developers means that the markets, and the exploration aspects of the game are still fundamentally effected by other players. So if I want to find a pristine unexplored part of the galaxy, I will necessarily be effected by other people. The real problem, as I said, is having the future of the game itself tied to to financial future of the company. In 1, 5, 10, 15, etc years when the company either dies or decides it no longer wants to support the server costs for this game (maybe it is no longer profitable), no one will be able to run it. That's why I voted for the 'make an offline version available one day' option. Also, and I admit this is paranoid, but by having it an online server it means that the developers (or a company that buys them out) COULD one day introduce a subscription fee.

What I don't understand is, why do some people have a lack of empathy to those who desire an offline option? What some people fail to realise is that, without a broadband connection, they won't be able to play ED. Are they all confident that everything will be rosy-shiny in the future and that their connection or the ED servers will last forever?

So, people, what are your opinions about ED if you end up with no connection, or when (not if) FD kill the servers? I know one thing, there will be a lot more people lamenting the lack of offline play than there are now.

<Sigh> ... I sincerely hope my connection lasts long enough to play ED and other stuff for years to come, as I do yours. :)

Nothing at the moment. Just concentrate on the game.

What would you like the people moaning about the #FirstWorldProblem of there being no offline mode?

I wish they would shut up and let FD carry on with the development of the game.

I hope some day you end up moving to a place where there is little or no internet. Or get a job where vast amounts of time are spent at locations where there is no internet.

Personally I'm not interested in offline mode atm, but I would like to see some assurance when it comes to the longevity of the game.
When the time comes, which it will eventually do some time, and the servers go down, I would like to be able to keep playing the game.

I voted "FD should focus on the online and not bother making an offline mode."
If the servers are ever shut down, they should release the server code (or the whole game) as open source, so the community can run our own server/s. I have no doubt that David Braben and his team want the game to continue more than anyone, and that they'll make sure it does.

i spend (wasted)1500 bucks for a brand-new system and planned to buy and modify and old arcade flightsimulator , i just canceled yesterday 4k monitors for it and other hardware replacements , deeply dissapointed , maybe in a far, far future if they bring a physical copy with offline mode i will restart the project ... too bad , but i thankgod listened to my gutfeelings and they told me not to buy anything more yet untill release.
so i voted for the offline copy ofc , to get back on this poll ... untill then i just play Oolite and wait till there comes a new elite kind of game worth my money...

You know, for considerably less cost than all that gear you were planning to spend, you could get a satellite internet service that would work just fine for E:D. Every area of the planet - even Amundsen Station at the South Pole - has satellite communications options. I suppose if you're deep underwater on a submarine you might be out of luck.

I wish the second and third items of the poll emphasized that - according to FD - there is a serious cost associated with the offline mode, like "would you like an offline mode eventually even if that meant no planetary landings for the foreseeable future ?" because that's the kind of decision FD had to make.

Who would ONLY buy ED or could/would ONLY play ED if it had a full offline mode?

A pretty simple question really. I see plenty of anger about the decision and can understand it. For me the presence of an offline version would only ever have been a nice option for the very few occasions where my job puts me in a position where I would not have an internet connection. The vast majority of my play would be with a connection.

So I was wondering how much FD might lose through this decision. How many of us could ONLY play in offline mode? Sure there will be people that backed partly because one was going to be delivered but what is the real number?

So, apologies for Y.A.P. but I hadn't seen this asked. "Who would ONLY buy ED or could/would ONLY play ED if it had a full offline mode?"

There was a poll (a pretty good one actually) that covered this exact question. I'm hiding from the boss at the moment so I can't look it up. :)

As I said earlier in the RAGE topic, I personally dont give a damn about offline mode. I got negative rep for that so be warned that it is illegal to think so apparently.

P.S. I expect second -1 because I said so here as well:)

If there can be 101 topics about the impending offline DOOOOM, I guess there is no problem with two polls like this:D

Where are all the moderators of this forum? I'm surprised there letting these threads pop up all over the place. There will be no offline more and no polls or ranting will change this decision so just move on people. This used to be one of the best forums for games around but since this decision was taken and announced its just turned into a place for people to moan. I was under the impression that the majority of people who invested in the kickstarter project were adults and well past this constant tantrum throwing. I was obviously wrong.

You are right except that you forgot about a period of time when Gamma was nearing and no-offline was not yet announced. It was all ranting about that they are releasing it early, its not finished, it will be garbage etc etc. Then the forums sucked as well big time. Now its just worse.

The mods are pretty good here. As long as a thread doesn't fall into just flaming or any form of abuse or become totally rotund, they tend to let it run its course.

don't care

I'll play regardless, there are plenty of other option that suit me.

Not exactly a fully representative poll with a huge 16 votes though!! I don't think most peeps give enough of a toss to even vote - I was not allowed to vote, presumably its closed, either that or noone gives enough of a toss what my vote is, to allow me to vote :)
