Once gravity pulls you down, the Man kicks ya

I ran out of fuel—like OUT of fuel—during autodock, and I fell from the sky. We're talking immediate, cascading module shutdown and gravity reaching up the skirt to yank kinda scenario. It's one of those rare if ever kind of situations, something that just doesn't happen . . . but it did. And, of course, the rebuy is brutal enough because it's a decked-out Anaconda.

But I feel as if this one part is . . . excessive. I got fined for falling out of the sky.

Does it hurt more to know that it you noticed you might have been able to shut down enough modules to reduce your rate of fuel usage for your autodock to complete? ;) 😛

Was it the fall that killed you or the base guns because you didn’t crash onto your assigned pad?

I'm just now getting back into the game after a 2-year hiatus, and I completely forgot about shutting down modules to save fuel. :cautious:

So, I experienced a little bit of Groundhog's Day during this fiasco. During the initial landing sequence, my ship fell out of the sky, and I was upside down like a turtle trying to right myself but nothing was responding (you know, because modules need fuel). At first, I didn't understand what was happening because my COVAS didn't say something like, "Your fuel reserves are depleted, I'm taking a nap." And then the server booted me. I was like, "Huh, what just happened?"

When I reconnected, I was back in low orbit, but this time I'm being fired upon for blocking the landing pad . . . while I'm in the sky. Apparently, the server kept the status from the previous connection and applied it to the new one, despite me not being anywhere near a landing pad. This time, I'm getting blasted, ARCHER is yelling in my ear, and then I run out of gas again. I bounce off the surface of the planet away from the settlement but this time I'm turtled while getting shot.

So, to answer your question . . . a little Column A, a little Column B.

That is an awesome story...good times...did you ever get out of the loop?

The second time around, with the settlement's heavy guns ripping me a new one, I eventually met the rebuy screen. It was a really weird and kind of comical experience.

I submitted a support ticket because of the connection error. I really wasn't sure what had happened at first because of a lack of COVAS announcements. They replied saying that modules were shutting down leading up to the disconnect and that it was hard for them to tell exactly what happened in terms of the network error. Although I was just trying to figure out what had happened, they were nice enough to refund my rebuy. I mean, I'll own my screw-up, but this was just a bizarre set of circumstances.

Entirely reasonable to expect pilots to be responsible for keeping their vessels in working order, and for the consequences of not doing so.

We all make them, I've fuel ratted for my squadron members in the past - and I won't mention forgetting there wasn't a fuel scoop on one of my ships in the past...

Well said - respect to you CMDR!

My most frequent use of jumponium is when I notice I've trapped my CMDR somewhere due to lack of fuel and I've had to get people on my friends list to bail him out on multiple occasions. Haven't actually lost a ship due to lack of fuel though, not yet.

I know, the complaint is meant to be tongue-in-cheek. The whole situation is funny, and if I'm being honest, seeing that meager 100cr fine attached to the whole situation is probably what kept me from getting angry. It just seemed . . . hilariously extraneous.
