Newcomer / Intro Will i be blocked from Frontier by naming my ship with following funny words ... ?

Hello, i am a 59 years old german player and i have named my PvP-ship with following funny words: "Ach leck mich doch !!"
Will i be blocked by Frontier Developments by naming it so? It is just a funny meaning and really not thought as an abuse.
I would be glad if only a staff of Frontier Developments answering my question. Thanks in advance.

Ermm... Not sure the meaning is correct bit, after a bot of a search, I find it translates to:
oh lick me anyway
. More of a double entendre if you ask me so, if I'm right, I can't see it being a problem.

So you are a staff of Frontier Developments, right?
It is less of a sexual meaning and more of Götz von Berlichingen or "I don't care about you!". It is meant for funny entertainment, not for unfunny abusement.
A member of my squadron opined, that the name of my ship would be censored, so that noone can read it.
I play the part of a defender in my squadron to prevent attackers in our systems.

Just name your ship and see what happens. Others will see it as you have written it if there is no problem (also if you have ATC set to use your ship name you can tell it is OK if they use the first three letters as normal - they use alternative if censored name).

If you discover that your ship name is being censored then you can ask support to "whitelist" the censored name. For example I have a ship named after a Scottish island and it needed support to whitelist the name for me (Cumbrae).

What is ATC by the way?
Ait Traffic Control - or in Elite they call it other things e.g, "starcon" in Alliance stations

You're not going to get a Frontier reply here. If anything, this is a support ticket matter, if it is that important to you. Or just don't name your ship with offensive terms.
Okay then. But naming my ship with an offensive term is in the eye of beholder. I say it is funny, while another can be offended, if he is childish to do so.

If you are already asking yourself if something is offensive and will get you in trouble, it probably is, and it might. And at the same time, it's usually only funny to you. You can still choose to do it of course, but don't be surprised if it gets censored. And no, you don't see the censoring yourself. Only others do; the first and last letter will be visible, the rest will be replaced with asterisks.

So is that why they suddenly started using different callouts? Could swear I never touched that option, but that it changed from ‘ship manufacturer what was it again’(I forgot) to ‘ship manufacturer Kilo-India-Romeo’ after a certain point… or maybe it is just an Odyssey thing.

You’ve also gotten me curious how the ‘Commander name’ option works… even if not strictly the subject itself.

Different controllers / stations / factions (something) have different methods. Some say "DeLacy *****" others "Falcon DeLacy *****" etc. Your status with the faction also affects what "script" they use - see how oleaginous some Imperial stations are when you are allied for example. This has always been the case, it is not a new feature.

The callsign they use to address your ship is always the first three letters of whatever you have chosen / set - pronounced phonetically, using the NATO/ICAO assignments (though sometimes I hear a certain controller mispronounce "India" as "Indigo").

So if your commander name was Kira Goto they would use Kilo India Romeo if you set it to use commander name.

That would probably explain it. What’s the default? Commander name, then? Cause I don’t think I looked into the detailed audio options too much… (you always find something new as they say, no matter how small)

I think so, ship name and ID were introduced sometime after I started which would be when the option was brought in.

i doubt frontier would even bother with an offensive named ship, i see alot of ships that have far worst names calling rubbish on them

The reference OP is trying to convey is this:

It has meaning only to someone who knows enough about German language, and culture to boot, because otherwise one wouldn't know the background. If someone without this knowledge would be motivated to enter the phrase in a translation machine and found themselves offended by the response without any context, I'd say it is their own fault because this isn't how you do research.

I'm not sure what Frontier's policy is regarding offensive expressions in languages other than English, but in practice this is quite the rabbit hole, and one in every single language. I can't quite imagine that they would find it efficient to even try. A reasonable policy might be to react only if someone complains. But as others suggested, you either just try and see what happens, or you ask support directly.

I like it, and it would be sad if we've become so snowflakey that we can't make a cultural reference to a different era anymore. As long as this is permitted to remain on Youtube, I'm not too worried. But who knows where things are going, the times they are a-changing.
