Preview Footage of Update 17

I'm sure there's more to U17 than what we could see on day one.
The effect of the matrix sites(I’ll start calling them by their new name when everyone else does) on the war front also needs to be determined. I’m sure we’ll find out on Thursday how terrific they are… in their current stage.

I just wanted to say how much i like this community. Look at this post, everyone is amazing! :p

On topic though, yeah i agree with old duck, alot of people hate youtubers here, its beyond just a jab, i think parts of the forum have a real bone to pick, having decided that overall youtube is just dooming elite. Which it is.. but yeah, be careful OA.

I talk to a lot of Elite YouTubers. The reason they don't post their videos here is because of the extremely hostile and aggressive / passive aggressive environment. This forum has a terrible reputation in all Elite communities outside of these forums themselves. That's a shame, as there's a lot of great people here. However a handful have been allowed to dominate the discussions.

As for "advertising" videos. Linking the video here generates very low additional views. Certainly not enough to warrant me spending the short amount of time it takes to post. The reason I posted, is because I thought some people might enjoy seeing the Update 17 clips before it went live.

Frontier are very happy to share that content with me, and with others before everyone else gets a chance to see it. I'd post the raw footage they send directly to the forums if I was allowed, that way no one would even have to visit my channel. But Frontier do not allow us to do that, in fact they expressly forbid it.

In terms of the "hate" many of us YouTubers get from the forums. That honestly doesn't bother me. I often talk with the devs and CMs at Frontier, and I know for a fact that they 100% encourage and support every single Elite video I have ever produced, including the critical ones. Frontier as a company, and Frontier staff as individuals believe that my videos, and the videos of other YouTubers and Streamers actively supports Elite (regardless of whether the videos are positive or critical). The fact a few "Obsessive Ants" on the forums can't get over that, is actually very funny (but also extremely sad).

I like you OAnt and watch every one of your videos. 🙂

There is a lot - 4 of us were 'playing' in a Spire site for several hours last night.
But, of course, for the "I don't want to interact with Thargoid content" crew, they may as well move on..

Excellent to see good Odyssey exclusive content though, I admit...

ETA: I lost interest in "the war" after a couple of weeks, when the Thargoids had most of their teeth pulled, difficulty wise...
But, the Matrix / Spire sites are absolutely amazing, the Art team had a field day, I'm sure!

Something that also might be important, in many of the youtuber discussions that have popped up in threads ive also been in, there is alot of.. lets just leave it at criticism.. at yourself and anyone else can think of... YET... the burr pitt channel is always held high by the exact same people in the exact same threads.. so its very likely a response to perceived "positivity".

In the past i would probably have had a more invested conclusion for myself, but today, it seems that youtube can often provide content that affirms every type of opinion.

Also from a personal note.. please don't worry about positivity or negativity. I see you often go into lengthy disclaimers regarding it and it never makes sense why you need to justify yourself as either positive or negative.. Though sometimes.. your content is positive or negative even though you don't intend it to be! Saying its not doesn't help! Receiving and update is fundamentally positive. Frontiers company troubles fundamentally negative!

Also yes another thanks for all the video's. I still watch them. And leave the odd comment :)

I feel you're talking about me; even if you're not, I'll still say my piece. It's my personal perspective.

I'm one of those who are more critical of content creators, because my personal view is that mostly they contribute very little with their opinion pieces, and very often their content is more harmful than helpful long term (my pet peave being those creators who focus on best start guides and encouraging players to grind). Also, I really don't like how content creators like you have settled on opinion pieces with very little actual game content and often a lot of speculation. That's not hate, that's my personal opinion, and I still think you and the others are probably totally fine chaps who I'd probably have nice conversations with, even if we disagree on a topic. I still try to be a nice guy, but I strongly dislike that there is this propensity to paint every critical voice into the "hate" corner (edit: Not neccessarily by you; I meant more the "general" tendency to dismiss crticism as hate).

About the "terrible" reputation of the forums, I think this reputation is a bit hypocritical. It is en vogue to crap on the forums, and there totally is certainly a lot of content here that deserves to be made fun of; but if you poke a little deeper, you find something like "I read that in the forums", "there's a thread with good info on the forums on topic X", or "yeah topic Y is documented on the forums" more often than you'd think for a place that is so resented by other communities - in my little bubble, the forums' content gets referenced quite a lot. I think this is the typical cliche resentment between competing gamer communities. Forum says Reddit is toxic, Reddit says Youtube is toxic, Youtube says the forums are toxic. It's silly, really.

FIY, I enjoyed the video, and having posted it made the place better than before. I didn't mind and I didn't see it as "advertising". It's genuine new content info, and that is what I like to see from content creators. I'd like to see it from Frontier directly more, but this is as good as it gets for now.

Of course they support the content creators that are left. They don't want to clash with them and have another edgelord at their hands. Also, they have traditionally being very patient and forgiving with even the harshest public criticism; i.e. they just don't comment on it publically. They even made creators "partner" who, de facto, don't put out any Elite content like, ever. So.... yeah. They're just acting smart in regards to the "community contacts".

Personally I don't think I "hate" on you and your colleagues, but yes, I am critical of some (or sometimes a lot) of the content that gets put out on Youtube. But I've been highly praiseful (is that a word)? where praise was well deserved. By putting out stuff on YT you make yourselves public figures, and open yourselves up for criticism. More so when you do mostly opinion pieces than actual game content.

I wonder if this may be because their channel is not concerned with anything bar enjoying the game? Something that is often frowned upon by so many players / ex-players etc?
I just use the "don't show me" option for channels I have no interest in - that list is much longer than just ED related ones in which I find the content to be of no interest to me.

A lot just spammed their videos without any context for clicks. I regard that as rude. If people can't be bothered to put context to what they want to express - why should people bother about them.

Talk to OA not me, hes right here, and quite friendly if you're nice.

(and between you and me, sorry, i think burr is a white knight, his defense is often very assertive)

EDIT: pps.. personally, i actually enjoy youtube links (and have posted many of OA's videos myself thinking about it). It lets us discuss the idea at home rather than on youtube.

Meanwhile reddit is full of complainers, doomsayers and people which simply are incorrect, but even if you show them evidences you will get downvoted to oblivion, because truth is unpopular, discords are full of "dedicated" players which claim that they are cool and friendly only to insult people doing other loops, because "we are elite of elites", and yt is full of "great" creators, which for whole time have propercies about doom and die of frontier, which claimed that they "end" with elite, because everything is slow and bad, only to return to elite, when they understood, that views amount from non elite content is low, of course this type of creators usually is able to do only doom style vidoes, because it bait more viewers. Of course I understand, that creators need much more content than normal players, because I can repeat X Y times, they cannot do 100 videos about fights in rings :)
Ngl, observing this whole tribalism with "they are bad, we are gooood" is hillarious.
🍿

So essentially what this all boils down to is that people gravitate towards youtube content that reflects their own personal perspective in an attempt to reinforce their own opinions. "Ded gamers" love a good sensationalist "Is Elite Dying?" vid, while "White Knights" enjoy tucking into some "Here's me playing Elite and enjoying it!" content.

While others, heaven forbid, just play the game and keep their heads down.
