How soon (if it's still coming) before we can see this which IMO would really make the game stand out more than it already has:

It is coming - but it will be after the first release.

Will the orrery style detailed system map we saw on concept screenshots be in the game at some point?

Thank you!

Hi David. Will we see significant expansion on core features such as supercruise, combat, trading, and player interaction by release? For instance, supercruise is neat as a rough concept right now, but at the moment it lacks gameplay, being a mostly passive "point ship in direction and make a sandwich for 20 minutes" ordeal. Same with trading, mostly just being a game of supercruise and rather basic hauling.

Additionally, we will see more types of space stations? In earlier betas I saw reference to stations incorrectly labeled "O'Neill Cylinders", would it be possible to see a genuine O'Neill type 3/cylinder? I hope so, since I think they're one of the more gorgeous concepts, and seeing one in the same fidelity as the various Torus based stations would be awesome.

You meant ships that look like this?

Granted, it doesn't look so epic as in inception but I suspect damage model visualization is still WIP (as it is quite difficult to do). Fingers crossed for Gamma!

Edit: so it seems complete wrecks is post release - ninjad by David.

Alright David I'm going to have to ask this as a strong Alliance supporter.

Will we se more Alliance specific support in the game lore? Seems to me that the Feds and the Empire will been getting all the press.

No no no, you must understand. 'Someone' has to be the football between the Federation and the Empire. :D

David,

Are there plans (in the distant future i'm sure) to include some sort of 'battle mode'. A simulation of battles for people to just duke it out, without having any consequences on the main game?

Personally I am not too bothered, but I know a lot of the PVP crowd would like to see something like this.

Thanks Again

Have you played the game? Why is the offline (as opposed to single player, which I understand) mode so important to you?

While I can't answer for the other guy, I can answer for myself and why I personally asked for a refund of my £105 pledge once you told us you ditched offline.

I have plenty of online games already in my library. I used to be a hardcore raider in WoW and frankly got disillusioned with the attitude and inherent behavioural patterns that emerge in people when they see things as an 'online race' or 'online competition'. I want to be able to just relax when I play my games, and the ability to actively pause and do something else (like painting some of my miniatures, or pet my cat that suddenly wants attention) shouldn't impact on my ability to enjoy a game. It does impact in the 'need to be online' games, especially when you can't pause them (which is kinda natural for online only games).
Add that the game feels incredibly punishing with no way of 'starting over from an old save', and your product is just plain un-fun to me if it needs to be online.

Also, I have several games in my collection from years gone by that required connecting to servers to work, and these games simply don't work anymore because the company(ies) behind them either ceased to exist or decided that it was simply not profitable anymore to carry the luggage that those games were. A noteworthy 'poster child' in this kind of thing is "Hellgate London" which I bought at release. The guys behind that particular game were noteworthy and had decent experience while they created a nice game. Their desire to keep a persistent online component running all the time eventually meant that they couldn't cover running costs, though, and the company went bust. Even so, I am still able to play that game in its offline mode if I want to (and it's actually a nice game in that mode), but if they had forced the consumers to only be able to play online, that too would have been a 'dead' game for all intents. The offline mode keeps it alive for me to be able to play.

So basicly my reasonings are twofold.

I want the ability to play at my own pace, with saves and reloads, without being forced into some ratrace that playing with others will naturally put me into (I seem tor ecall you even said yourself that resources would dwindle in areas in the online version as players took them)

and I want to be sure that I can always pick up the game and play it again later on, when everyone else forgot about it, because >I want to play at that time< (and not when some guy running your servers think it is opportune).

A purely online version is just inaccetbale to me, especially as the originals were offline.

Hi David, sorry to go on. My friend is not a kickstarter backer but I am. If we are going to have only one game save and for example you will give us all our ships from our kickstarter pledge levels stored at the star system we choose to start in... (well if that's what you do, please say if it's not), what system should I start in? ie: where will non-backers start? Otherwise coop will be tricky if we're 10,000 light years apart at the start.

LOVE your work!!!

Is there still plans to allow us multiple commander slots (so I can have more than one "save" on my account)? And if so will this be in the initial release?

We have no intention of taking the servers down, but I understand what you are getting at. We plan to archive the game from time to time (ie matching client and servers and game world state), and would release such an archive if the servers were to come down. That would also address the issue of how you preserve an online game for the future, from the whole 'retro' perspective.

Excellent stuff! Well, sounds promising at least. I hope I can afford broadband until that time ...

What new ships are planned to be added to the game between now and December 16th?

(If you don't want to answer this, or have no firm answer, that's fine, please indicate such and I'll stop asking) :)

Some sort of autopilot for this, like in Frontier and FFE, would do the trick for me in this regard. Make it go nice and fast for the player but let them wander about if they want to.

Is there some way to ensure that this archive could survive if Frontier was, for instance, acquired by another company (that could have different policies)?

Hi David, I've been using the multiplayer mode to great success, both in Group and open play, does this model allow the likelyhood of truly multicrewed ships in the future? For instance the requirement of a transporter with a long jump range and a smaller ship capable of fighting or planetary landings to carry out specific mission types?

Oh and defintely looking forward to Saturday, convinced the entire family to come along.

Hi there David and thanks for great game.

Will there be space walking, i.e. eject from your ship to take a stroll to the unknown? :)

thanks
