Hi David,

Is a third person exterior camera planned at all? It seems odd to spend real money on paint jobs for our ships, and then not be able to see how they look out in space. It would make for some lovely photos as well.

Hi David, thanks for a wonderful game/sim... and hopefully just the start of more good things to come!

Any chance we could see more stellar objects such as comets ?

Wouldn't it be cool to go visit Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko and checkout Philae's location etc!

The thing I love most about E: D is the attempt to realistically depict our galaxy. Being able to visit star systems I can see in the sky and being able to explore places scientists have only just begun to explore with remote sensing techniques fills me with a sense of wonder. How will you (or will you) keep the E: D galaxy synced with our rapidly expanding knowledge of what real star systems are actually like? What if a star systems at release has not been studied and so has several procedurally generated planets but a few years later it is discovered that it has no detectable planets?

No detectable planets does not mean no planets... The main methods for detection at the moment are Doppler movements of the parent star and occultation. Both of these fail if a system is 'flat on' to us - ie if the planets orbit in a plane perpendicular to our viewing direction. So in that case we would be OK leaving them (though we may have to tweak the system axis...). Less flippantly we will look at each one as it is discovered. I hope the discoveries will already be there, in which case we just make an addition to the text box, but in others it may mean adjusting an orbit.

Hello Mr Braben
Could you please tell us if military missions and ranks (Federal Military etc) like previous elite titles (First Encounters and Frontier II) are in game ?
Thank you.

Custom Skins

Have you ever considered allowing custom skins?

As the current skins are great and are purchasable you might not consider it, however maybe you could do something like War Thunder where you can add whatever skins you want to your ship but only you can see it? This prevents profanity while allowing expression and keeping the officially skins as a viable option.

Kind Regards

We know you guys are very bust but, it would be so nice if we could have "dev diary's" back at some point. We miss those. Any chance you and Michael could do more and more often?
Agreed, any more Dev Diarys in the future, we miss the jumpers! :)

I played Elite on the BBC in about 1987, WHICH I PAYED FOR (using all my pocket money) can I have a free Panther Clipper please?

Brian :)

hi David thanks for sparing some time to talk with us..

Quick question..will there be a limited pause feature so we can answer the door calm a crying baby or answer the telephone.

Looking forward to playing the release but don't want to die while I'm on the loo (-:

Just a hint for what I do...

If I am in supercruise, I'll slam the breaks on and just out of SC.
If I'm at a station, I trust I'll be 'safe'.
If I am at a warzone, jump to SC, then back out again.

It's not as quick as pressing 'p' of course, but good enough for my needs...

Not a question but would like to take the time to say thanks to you and for Elite.
Back in 85 I was 13 years old and ended up in Addenbrookes Hospital[ in Cambridge with a stroke, whilst I was in there I was brought Elite on the Spectrum to help with hand-eye coordination.
Also I was very into D&D and I put these two things down to helping me in my recovery from the stroke, so I owe you a lot so many thanks again :)

A lovely story. I'm glad it helped.

No Mans sky

Hi Dave,

I know you developer types don't tend to look at the "opposition" for various reasons but you've always seemed more in touch than that.

Have you seen Hello Games' No Mans Sky yet, it's clear there's influence there from the Elite series - do you ever stop and think about your influence on the games industry with your games?

cheers

I'd just like to say a huge thank you to David, I've been rather concerned over the last few days and his replies have totally removed my fears and I'm a happy bunny again and can't wait for 3.9

Thank you. (Although my wife doesn't want me to say thank you because of all the money I've spent upgrading my PC purely for this). :)
