Fourth Anniversary

It has a ton of color morphs and is emblematic of North America to me tbh, ranges from all the way up north in Canada all the way down to Mexico
Just a solid animal all over.
Yes, my opinion. Especially the huge amount of color morphs makes it very attractive to me especially as a possible gift. A Spectacled Bear in contrast makes more sense in a sold pack because I think it is appreciated by a Higher amount of Players. (to refer to your Video 😃)

I keep wondering if that's possible or too much to wish for.
I don't think it's actually on the table for the anniversary animal, unfortunately. It feels a tad bit more niche, a bit less recognizable when stacked up against the lemur and deer... Of course, I'd love to be wrong more than anything, but I really don't think this is their chance. At this point all I can do is wait for a Temperate, Woodlands, or Greater Asia pack and pray.

If anything, I'd say the lemur was way more niche than the tanuki. Tanuki has Nintendo to thank for being moderately well known via popular games like Animal Crossing and Super Mario

Despite that, my personal experience tells me that a substantial number of people, very nearly all of them who play those games, even those who are also generally inclined to consume Japanese media beyond video games, still come out thinking that tanukis are strictly mythological creatures, if they even realize they aren't just supposed to be raccoons to begin with. I've heard it time and time again, "I didn't realize tanukis weren't fictional until..." with the "until" often being seeing a picture I shared.

They're the thing that Mario turns into when he touches a leaf, obviously.

But isn't that the point of Planet Zoo?
They've added animals that many of us have never heard of.

The Nile lechwe, the Cuvier's dwarf caiman, the Himalayan brown bear, etc.

Adding the tanuki would actually kinda fit what PlanZo has been doing since the beginning: bringing in cute, oddball animals that the public may or may not have heard of. The tanuki is already a known creature, and PZ will just show that it's a real animal living in Asia (whether it's the mainland or Japanese species)

Yes, absolutely. My entire point was just that it felt a bit too "out there" for the anniversary pick specifically, based on the species we've already gotten. I've always felt it would have a lot to offer if added to the roster in general.

Well,if only in terms of color change, I prefer the Asian golden cat, I love this animal very much, but I know that we can not get it, because it is too rare in zoos, and for Asia, the vacancy of ungulates is fatal, we need takin, deer, antelope, cattle and so on.

thought he was a Red Panda 💀
Making it more confusing, there are 2 types of power ups. The standard Super Leaf, which turns Mario and Luigi into raccoons. In the same game (Super Mario Bros 3), there is the Tanooki Suit, which essentially does the same thing but is a full body suit and can turn the player into a statue when they ground pound.

In later appearances, it was just simply the Super Leaf and the player can turn into either Tanooki Mario (raccoon dog) or Kitsune Luigi (fox)

Hey, what can I say? I've played a lot of Super Mario, growing up on Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World before getting these later appearances. SMW is still the best, followed by SMB3

While nice, the advantage of the ABB is that it has a large range that can cover the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 3 countries for 1 animal, plus the most iconic North American bear, far more common than the grizzly and more recognizable

Yeah, I'm also not too hopefull, but they can always surprise us, I mean, I remember I thought I'd never see my beloved skunks in game and here we are. Other welcomed surprises were the Prairie dogs and the Wild Ass. Not saying the Tanuki has to be neccessarily an anniversary animal, but I'm not giving up yet on it being added in general.

I'm more curious about what else apart from an animal the anniversary could bring. The bakery shop was great and the new balloons were a nice addition.

I could come up with a couple of things (not all realistic though...) The obvious would be another food or drink shop. But imagine for example a face Paint stand. Or animal mascots for one or more days. A carousel would be amazing even just as decor. A one can dream...

Been thinking, but do y'all think we'll get a teaser today or tomorrow about the anniversary?
Because I can actually see us receiving the anniversary update this Thursday, a day before the actual update...

Looking back at the last updates, last year the anniversary was actually a Thursday. In 2021, the anniversary was a Wednesday, but we got the update Thursday Nov. 4th, so I wouldn't be surprised if we were to get an update this Thursday or potentially even Friday. Otherwise we'd have to wait until next Tuesday for the anniversary update
Because of time zones I am completely confused on the date so im just going to let the chaos win and find out which day of the week and what level of the crack of dawn the anniversary will be.
