Fourth Anniversary

That's not stupidity, that's ignorance.
That's ignoring info you knew about, but if you missed it, then it's totally ok to be disappointed. However, how you react to that disappointment is what defines it. If you are disappointed, but in the end are ok with it, then fine. But if you stay annoyed, then that's actually dumb
No thats still by defintion stupidity.
I dont want to call anybody here stupid or anything but the failing of one human being to read doesnt make their disappointment in the game a valid critice.

Someone saying that this game has no penguins and needs one asap because they somehow missed the fact that there are 3 penguins in the full game allready, might not nessecarily be stupid, but their opinion on the subject is defenetly invalid and does not deserve any consideration until they are actually dealing with the real facts.
Who knows if they still have the same opinion when they know the truth.

The game is rated E10+ with the ESRB rating system, so I think the majority of children playing are around that age give or take a few years. The game is also fairly complex and most children under the age of ten would probably give up or forget about the game after a bit.
Exactly. And the average 10 year old can read. And if they don't and buy the arctic pack and then get upset because there is no penguin, it's a learning expierince.
And if they are enough of an animal nerd to miss "animals from region x" they probably won't expect a penguin in the arctic pack in the first place 🤣

No thats still by defintion stupidity.
I mean, I guess ignorance is a type of stupidity, but it's different. I don't know how to explain it

Yes. The thing that's stupid would be being open and staying disappointed or annoyed and criticizing. But if you initially are disappointed, realize that you missed something, then take back that disappointment, isn't dumb

This I agree on

Do kids play this game? Yes. Are they the main audience of this game? No.
And quite honestly, I won't discuss reading comprehension as an argument for knowing which animals you get in a DLC. If your reading isn't good enough to read a DLC description (or use a tool to let it read to you), you will not be able to play the game without support of someone who can read anyway.

We all can agree to disagree, no one of us will go the length to make a market research but I'm honestly out of this discussion when we talk about kids with lack of pocket money and reading skills as the reason why we should think about what regions need a new base game animal.
Fair enough they were just an example I used they would likely have no meaningful impact on the animal choice discussions and I think the conservation got a bit derailed. My original point was that when looking for regional representation it wont be something like the blackbuck which only is representation to the zoo nerds but is more like a base game kangaroo (which is unlikely) which people looking for say Australia are looking for think broader representation

no if they read the full animal list bought it and was still upset no penguin thats stupidity.
If they didnt read it whether that be not bothering to, the inability to read or, they just missed the animal list for some other reason thats ignorance a subtle but important difference.

you would be surprised I work with middle school aged kids and the amount that still struggle with any form of reading or comprehension is astounding.

I have no idea if hypothetical penguin people exist or not. It was a thought experiment. If they do exist it doesn't matter if A person who returnS a product does so out of stupidity or ignorance or whatever. The only important point for a retailer is that a sale a has been lost.

Where I work a ton of people would show up and closed days and be upset. The hours are on the website, but apparently that's not enough. Those people would be upset and generally wouldn't come back. We added road signs. It didn't solve the problem entirely, but it did mitigate it significantly.

Though experiments and economic aside, I would quite like another cold water penguim since, like the lemurs, they are often held in mixed habitats. Would I also like ducks and primates and saiga antelope? Yes, but I'm going to happy with any free anniversary gift - even if its an exhibit cobra or a ginko tree.

My most wanted animals are all species that we don’t have in any zoo in my home country (Australia). I want exotic species that I can build for and enjoy in game because I don’t get the chance to see them in real life… and I’m sick of the same boring old species here at home, if I’m honest!

I have no idea what the anniversary animal will be, but I’m personally hoping for a shoebill, blackbuck or flying bird.

Been thinking, but do y'all think we'll get a teaser today or tomorrow about the anniversary?
Because I can actually see us receiving the anniversary update this Thursday, a day before the actual update...

Looking back at the last updates, last year the anniversary was actually a Thursday. In 2021, the anniversary was a Wednesday, but we got the update Thursday Nov. 4th, so I wouldn't be surprised if we were to get an update this Thursday or potentially even Friday. Otherwise we'd have to wait until next Tuesday for the anniversary update

This is one of those weeks when we just sit and wait with our friend:

idk, but I really hope so.

If I could pick any, I would really love those: 🤩
  • Slow Loris
  • Honduran White Bat (I mean, look at those)
  • Colombian Pygmy Rabbit or Sumatran Striped Rabbit (Yes I miss rabbits in the game!)
