If you can't make the 2B difference you can't afford to buy one anyway. You'll be endless complaining about how unfair upkeep is and how you can't 'relax' and play with your carrier.
kill aliens in open around spires for a weekend. you'll have enough credits to fund a carrier for the remaining time this game will be playable.

I'm pretty sure I saw a carrier called "Panther Clipper" some months ago.
Given how easy it is to get money nowadays, surely the price should be higher. A wage-price spiral. Everything should cost a fortune as the galactic economy begins to buckle under the weight of limitless incomes.
If a billion and a half makes or breaks your carrier purchase, you can't afford it and will be next in line complaining about the upkeep.
Or a few visits to the Spire sites with a few friends. I made like 3.5 billion or so at them over three visits without even trying hard.
I am one of those that sucks at ship combat so avoid it. Hence the trading.

. Kidding aside, it's almost like the game offers, I don't know, at least a few varations of ways to make some serious cash...
