Hardware & Technical As a sound producer I must recommend this!

This game has some of the best sound design I have every heard.

I have Yamaha HS80 monitors with a sub. You can seriously feel these effects. Especially the engines. You would be fine with just the monitors valued around $600.

I seriously recommend. blows any Logitech system out of the water.

This is my setup BTW:

I agree! inside games like BF3 and BF4 when you have these speakers at 100% the speakers actually compress the air around you when you fire your weapon you can actually feel it in your chest. It's an experience I wish I could share with all!

I switched my Logitech speakers for some Edifier 1600Ts recently and the difference is massive even though they are only 2.0 (no separate sub). The Logitechs sound crap in comparison. They were are all bass but no actual quality :p

Due to family I’m headset bound but on the few occasions I will crank it over the expensive sound system that sits beside the PC when I’ve got the house to myself.

That’s some set up.

Think on the New PC rig a Sound card is the way to go?

Yes, especially with headphones. The Asus Xonar STX cards are aimed at headphone users and have a very good built in headphone amp (which you can also upgrade with some REALLY expensive, professional opamps if you want), it sounds much better than on board ones. But you will need good headphones to match it :)

You will have to sacrifice 5.1 and 7.1 support though, because it's a dedicated headphone and 2.0/2.1 speakers card :p

Aye I've got a decent 5.1 surround sytem set up in man cave. But recently switched to headphones. (trying comms without much success)
The headphones (from a sound card) give a better 'feel' for the cockpit. Both good just different. Worth trying them both out to see for yourselves.

Nope getting an interface is the best IMO. Like I have the scarlet 2i2

Nice kit CMDR!

I agree, the soundwork in this game is extremely high quality. Everything just sounds.... right. I haven't heard a sound that seemed out of place except maybe the Foghorn of Death for the DiscScan finish, but that one grows on you.

I concur. I listen through a pair of Fostex PM-1 monitors as well as smaller M-audio monitors sometimes.

The audio is crisp and highly detailed and it also matches the origin very, very well. You can imagine the refinery at work by sound alone, you can hear that the nugget totally hit the side of the cargo scoop and you can hear the thrusters really doing their work.

Top notch, init...

Wow, didn't know people still used speakers for PC Gaming.

Looks great but I like the privacy of the old headphones....quality headphones at that.

It is lovely. And when you screw up and scrape against the inside of a station it is painful, as it should be :D

Well, personally I sometimes use headphones too. I have a pair of "regular" gaming headphones, as well as a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro and a pair of Beyer Dynamics DT770. I can really recommend both sets, but the isolation of the Sennheisers are a bit better...

I have a pair of Tannoy reveals, great low end studio reference monitors, I go from a M-audio breakout box into a Mackie mixing desk. Ok, it's not designed for gaming, but sounds incredible!

Honestly with these monitors I feel I do not even need 5.1 for gaming. I do however prefer 5.1 or 7.1 for watching movies.
