Hardware & Technical As a sound producer I must recommend this!

This game has some of the best sound design I have every heard.

I have Yamaha HS80 monitors with a sub. You can seriously feel these effects. Especially the engines. You would be fine with just the monitors valued around $600.

I seriously recommend. blows any Logitech system out of the water.

This is my setup BTW:

i have also the HS80 - but without sub. dont want sub - for audio mixing. but for movies and games I think its nice!

I have a pair of front-ported Mission speakers (from a Denon mini-separates system ... they were free) hooked up to an old Trio amplifier ... whenever i do something that has a bass kick, like entering Witchspace, i get a face full of air as they're only a couple of feet away :D

My DT-990pros do exactly what they should. Game sounds amazing at high volume (due to lack of compression and mastering).

I'am surprised as a "sound producer" you failed to notice the game has no multiband compression or mastering in the games audio engine.

Audio geekout thread! Great to see so many with such great kit.

I have a couple of budget passive near-fields for mids and highs and a pair of beefy Mission speakers for low end, all powered by an ancient Rotel RA-820 which I absolutely love. I use a Tascam US-122 mkII for almost everything. All budget equipment.

Headphones - Audio Technica M40s, which sound more detailed to me than a lot of headphones twice the price.

I would love to hear Elite through OP's Yamahas. I've wanted those for a very long time, considering Behringer Truth's as a cheaper alternative for mixing work.

The music was mastered and we got the mastered tracks at the last update, beautiful job whoever did it.

There is a lot of quiet detail in the audio produced by the ships in game, and I'm glad they haven't been tempted to compress all of it. It's a really lovely job.

^ producer/engineer snob alert ;)

how would he know the difference between the old and new audio if he's a recent player?

Ya this game sounds great on monitors.
Using Rokit 6's with NI Audio6. All the crackles of the engines come out. Bass on the 6's are decent without a sub.
The combination of my joystick sitting amongst a bunch of hardware synths makes my desk look like a space ship haha.

Sound design in ED is just sickness.
One I noticed recently was the whine as a piece of wreckage goes past close at speed. I physically ducked!

I am not here to say I know everything. Please enlighten me on how you can tell? I didn't even think about it. My topic was not about if the sounds were mastered or not. But now that you mentioned it I noticed this game is not as loud as other games such as BF4. And I use multiband compressing for my sound effects and have no issue at high volume. I am assuming you are not a fan of the "Loudness war"

I really don't know why you would intentionally try to belittle me because I didn't notice something you did.

I have a somewhat more uber sound system than you (that blows yours out of the water- sorry couldn't resist) and agree the sound is sublime. Without going into details, lets just say that one of my front speakers is more expensive than your entire system lol.

It is not perfect however. Overall the volume is slightly on the low side. But i prefer that to overly loud sound that clips.
Also the music mix has changed and is not as good as in beta 2

Wow, didn't know people still used speakers for PC Gaming.

Are you kidding? Speakers trump headphones every time. Especially good ones. You can't, no matter what, recreate true 5.1 with headphones. You might argue that this isn't true, but if you sat in my room you'd change your mind. With 720w RMS at my disposable (it's not just about volume however, the sound I have is also extremely high quality, better than some cinemas) and truly enveloping sound, coupled with the ability to shake the house apart....there's nothing quite like it and headphones simply don't even come close :)
