Seems Elite Dangerous will be continued!

Hi All :)

They would have to double down real hard, and it'll be more difficult year by year to make people come back/new people to sign on. Odyssey release was premature, and while most of it's problems have been fixed over the following year, there have been almost no feature updates for it except a few more mission types. And all other new content except the Thargoid war already stopped 2018 with the release of the Mamba. We are now at the end of 2023 and almost in 2024.

Was it really back in 2018 that Frontier gave us that last ship ?! o_O
I don't care what anybody else says (belligerent mood swings here :D) I WANT MORE SHIPS! (throws teddy bear out of pram).
Okay seriously :) ...I'd definitely come back into the bubble more if a few new (Panther Clipper would be nice) ships for sale appeared at Jameson Memorial.
Buying new ships and getting them engineered up (for different tasks) has been a major part of my gameplay, plus trading / missions (mainly ship based) and exploration also my main other interests within the game.
No new ships is like the stick for me, I'd like more carrots! ...please. :)

Jack :)

This is my opinion only and of course could be completely wrong
I think you summed it up quite well.
We were just discussing ED/O (and in VR) on a discord, that was pretty much in accord with your comment too.
But then, the group I chat / play with enjoy the game, warts & all, collectively - and play together also.

You know, there is a really great way of getting lots and lots of new ships ...

... buy another copy* of the game and run an Alt commander (many of us do) so there you can have 37 new ships to play with and all the wondrous fun that goes with re-qualifying The Engineers and gaining Fed and Imp ranks. ;)

(* Steam sales come along regularly.)

Thinking about the quote in the OP and is it actually good news? Unless the management game sequels have already been in development for a while we'll get 3 rushed games with 1 year of development time in a genre that seems to rely a lot more on expansion packs/DLC rather than sequels. There haven't really been many paradigm shifts in the genre that would warrant a re-do either so what's the hook for those sequels considering there's likely not enough time/resources for much technical innovation either?

I don't see much left over for elite in such an environment except for life support really, but I hope I'm wrong and they can do a bit more or get a bit more freedom to tweak stuff that needs tweaking.

It also made me realize how much I really miss ship interiors and new ships.

That's right, if SF made one thing clear, it's that everyone loves creating ships and their interiors. If you think about it, even in NMS base building ended up being the most important thing in that game. XD
I have always been an action, FPS, Pvp player... I never thought I would have so much fun creating things.

There is one game that got it right - Empyrion Galactic survival.
Unfortunately, the ships' flight characteristics are not great.
There are some things from this game that I would like to see in Elite.
For example base building.

I'll most likely be buying another copy of Odyssey this Christmas (for my Son) but I would prefer buying the game direct from Frontier. I've seen a few problems some people have had with the Steam versions, I would imagine the game bought direct from Frontier would give them more income / support ?....not sure, I have Steam installed for a couple of other games and haven't (mostly Egosoft's X Games plus Age of Mythology) had any real problems playing those.

Although I enjoyed upgrading modules for my ships in this game, some aspects can be a bit of a grind, besides, I have that many modules upgraded to the max a good number of them are in storage at the moment. Waiting for new ship designs to be released!

I'm also holding a few thousand ARX back in case new ships would suddenly arrive this year or next. ( ARX for Hull cosmetic ship kits & and paint jobs.)
Thirty seven ships?....but they're not new to the game! (you know what I mean ;)....:D).
I'd even contribute to a 'new kickstarter' to get some more practical and interesting designs for ships back in the game...desperation here!

Jack :)

It also made me realise why I never missed having them...

Are you using all 39 ED ships regularly?

Or is it just the "new ships because it is a space game" observation? - I find my use of EDO ships is 4 regularly - SF I use one for 90% of the time and another for the other 10% - the ships in SF are just a substitute for the horse found in Skyrim, really.

ETA: SF is a good RPG, not great, but that isn't a negative, what it isn't is a spaceship flying game primarily, but as long as people enjoy what the game provides, that is the important thing, isn't it?

Not all of them, as some are just niche or fun builds, but certainly more than just 4.

Ship interiors however add new functionality to gameplay, which would mostly benefit Odyssey. Currently in Starfield (with mods) there are engineering and control stations that add crew stations, living quarters that add passenger capacity, beds and cooking facilities, infirmaries that provide medical aid, workshops that add crafting stations, cargo halls that increase cargo space and brigs that you can send criminals to which you incapacitated with non-lethal weapons. You can then turn them over to the authorities for bounties. Those internal modules very much define what the ship is meant to provide and do.

So they are not actually in the game?
More power to the modding community - for sure, they are amazing! (ETA: not a cynical remark - the original FO4 DLC was modded into FO4VR, which I found excellent!)
But, as it stands, un-modded, SF interiors are of limited interest, unless one enjoys ladder climbing, of course.

Mods added the infirmary, brig and cargo functionality, crew and passenger are in the vanilla game. And yeah, ladders....mods cured that too, my ships now have stairs where needed, elevators are in the works. It's been like that in every Bethesda game ever. They provide the platform, modders do the rest.

And development will happen in parallel. Three games released over three years doesn't mean they all only got one year of dev time.

I guess it all depends on how many staff are remaindered as to how many devs are allocated to each project - Art & sound teams (both currently excellent!) can easily work on different assets over that 3 years, even as rather small teams.

Perhaps the 'new broom' will bring FD back from the brink? Who knows, only the next year or so will tell, maybe...

Sorry, but speaking about elite- I dont see any value for gameplay, which interiors could add.
Even after this all things.

I just click once to exit / enter a ship in SF - yes, they have interiors, but...
I do wonder how many of the fans of interiors actually spend any real percentage of their playing time wandering around the interior of their ships - comments are welcome!
