Certainly in the UK, the gelada is the most common baboon-like primate - it is kept in nine zoos, as much as the hamadryas (five zoos), Guinea (three zoos) and olive (one zoo) baboons put together. The mandrill is also kept in just five zoos in the UK.It’s so funny to me that the argument against the Gelada is that it isn’t in captivity but I have seen it at a lot of the zoos I’ve visited in the UK. It’s nowhere NEAR as absent from captivity as a lot of the other species in game.
