Planet Zoo: Eurasia Animal Pack arriving 13 Dec ❄️

It’s so funny to me that the argument against the Gelada is that it isn’t in captivity but I have seen it at a lot of the zoos I’ve visited in the UK. It’s nowhere NEAR as absent from captivity as a lot of the other species in game.
Certainly in the UK, the gelada is the most common baboon-like primate - it is kept in nine zoos, as much as the hamadryas (five zoos), Guinea (three zoos) and olive (one zoo) baboons put together. The mandrill is also kept in just five zoos in the UK.

I did not expect all my swine dreams to come true this year. I also love how at the anniversary people were so excited if it was the boar, and now that it’s coming I’ve seen so many comments saying it’s a boring and useless pick like what 💀
It effectively made all the RRH debate inconsequential. Big to do over it the Wild Boar and a peccary. And when we got the RRH i was hoping we’d get all 3 eventually but never thought we’d get them all this year

Is it possible to turn ONE thread not into a future pack discussion thread? I mean, the Eurasia pack thread would be awesome for... say... discussing the Eurasia pack.

That said, the wild boar looks awesome also in the new screenshots. Funny that I replaced the red river hogs in my zoo with the Peccary to now get the species both were always a substitution 😂

I think the wild boar looks way better in the screenshots they released today than in the trailer lol

Frontier frequently gets it wrong, yes.
It’s not “wrong” though. There’s no rule that they have to choose an animal that is common in captivity nor do they have to even acknowledge it. I would assume the thing they consider most would be how unique and attractive an animal is to a general audience. Quokkas are known for their smiles and have social media popularity, the Saiga has a very distinctive feature compared to other Asian ungulates like blackbuck which even though might be more common, to an average player it’s just a gazelle from Asia. Frontier is very logical in their choices.

What makes it 'wrong' is that they should. There's a good argument that they should. Especially considering this exact conversation happens every time they don't.
I mean we don’t know they don’t consider it, we have a lot of animals that are common in captivity so I don’t think it’s wrong for them to include a couple outliers every pack. I’m saying I don’t think this should be their main focus, their main focus should be picking attractive animals to a general audience.

I'd say it's a 50/50 situation. Frontier adds both Common and Uncommon Species in Zoos. They look at each situation separately it seems. If an Animal has Popularity and Meme Value, they add it anyway, but in other cases they look at Statistics. For instance Hermann's Tortoise has the most rep in EAZA Zoos apparently.

The year of the pig-types for PZ for sure. TBH i think most of us are probably good with the 5 we have (or wiil have the 13)
I was fine with one but yeah all the major pig groups are covered besides maybe domestic

There is no such thing as a wrong choice its their game its only wrong to you and if the people making the game a frequently getting it wrong maybe your preconceived notions of what should be included is wrong.

Considering captive presence is important when considering which animals people are exposed to but to say that if an animal has limited captive presence it is useless to the game and has no business being included is wrong. Animals are worth more than how many zoos they are in and frontier has to consider marketability because shock horror this is a paid game and frontier needs to attract people if they went solely of what is most common in zoos people would lose interest quickly. Things like the quokka, saiga and proboscis monkey provide a level of novelty you will never get including common animals this novelty is why they do it. Its not like they make entire packs dedicated to rare animals besides maybe oceania but that theme in of itself entirely consists of rare animals 1 or 2 rare animals is a great way to capture peoples attention and should be done in order to improve a packs potential audience.

exactly they take into consideration both something that represents alot of zoos and something that has an audience already.

I think the opposite, it looks really good in the trailer, in the screenshot it looks kinda sad.

His wife made an annoying joke, that's why.

I don't think we can expect or even want to, that every animal in game has always the same expression on it's face. It's eating in the second pic, head down, while in the first one it's just the idle animation. Maybe it was even close to blinking.

I meant the detailes. It didn't look as detailed un the trailer. Here you can see almost every hair, each a diferent color, the tusks, the tongue. I wasn't very impresed by the boar in the trailer, specially after how good both the RRH and the peccary came out, but now i see is of equal quality (i still prefer the other two though).

If there is anything this year has taught us about animal picks, it's that frontier does not value the common in zoo argument to base an animals worth.
What’s the fact that frontier don’t care if an animal is common in captivity got to do with what anyone else would prefer?
Saying “I prefer X to Y because X is more common in captivity” isn’t an argument - it’s a statement.
