FAVE Breed of Livestock (OR most useful breeds) for a Petting DLC

  • Kunekune Pig
  • Feral Horse (I think Frontier should go for a generic model which IMO would include aspects of the major wild horse lineages found the world over*)
  • European Rabbit
  • Pygmy Goat
  • Mouflon
  • Highland Cow
  • Pekin Duck
  • Lovebirds

I was actually just looking for interesting chicken breeds (as you do) and found perhaps the most weird-and-wonderful of the lot - the Ayam Cemani. It is a breed from Indonesia, which can be identified by being jet black all over. And I mean absolutely all over; not only are the feathers, skin, legs and beak all black, but the meat, skeleton and internal organs are all black as well. The only part of them that isn't black is their blood, which is still red.

If a crazy poultry breed was a necessity for a petting zoo pack, this would be the craziest, and therefore best, choice there is.

I'll try and think up some other domestic breeds later on, but I wanted to put this one down first.

That's soooo cool.

I do not want a Petting Zoo pack (especially since people complain about there being too many ungulates in the game). However, five I would like to see:
  • Ankole cattle
  • Camargue horse
  • Highland cattle
  • Indian runner duck
  • Vietnamese pot-bellied pig

Ignoring the fact that a Petting Zoo probably wouldn't work with how the human NPCs work, figuring out an ideal list of domesticated animals that everyone agrees upon would likely be a nightmare... there's an awful lot of breeds to choose from, probably more kinds of animals than we currently have in game.

Also, there's the oddity of releasing domesticated animals to the wild... ... ...where do our Llamas go exactly?

lol my Headcannon just always was that they are given to a Farm. Maybe they could rename it for domesticated Animals in the Update if we get a Pack like that

. Mallard Duck
. Highland Cow
. Helmeted Guinea Fowl
. Nigerian Dwarf Goat
. Mustang

All these animals can be found in the wild and in farms, which is why I think they would all be good choices.
Where do the Cattle and Goat live in the Wild?🤔

In the UK, many horses, cattle and goats are left to roam. They are owned but in essence are wild. Think of the ponies on Dartmoor, Exmoor and the New Forest. Roaming sheep are also one of the primary reasons for reintroduction of medium-large carnivore opposition (lynx and wolf)

Bringing up the ponies makes me want a pony breed. But I also want a Mustang! And then, there is the Australian brumby. And the Camargue...
Even the Chincoteague...
At the end of the day my problem with domestic pack is that there are wayyyy to many breeds to include.
That and there are still so many actual wildlife to add...

Watusi Cattle
Scottish Highland Cattle

Domestic Yak

Boer Goat
Arapawa Goat

Kunekune Pig

Alpaca

Domestic Turkey

I’ve always said that my ideal petting zoo pack would stem from animals that are typically seen as “exotic” or “oddball”, giving them a bit of a double edge for both petting zoos and normal zoo settings. Ankole Watusi are the best example of this since they’re so common on African Savannahs.

I feel like the Ankle Watusi on African Savannas is way more common in the US than it is in Europe.

Personally I'd like to see the following breeds:
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pig

A lot of other domestics like chickens, alpacas, rabbits, and guinea pigs I think would work better if they were just "generic".

I don't have much interest in domestic horses or donkeys, since we have their wild ancestors which look pretty similar already.

SuzieSky's Domestic Priorities:
Goats:
  • African Dwarf Goat: Goat yards are very common in zoos.
Birds:
  • Turkey: largest fowl and the only domestic animal with wild counterparts in North America
  • Muscovy Duck: funky duck from SA
  • Domestic Chicken: These descendants of red junglefowl are common in farms and zoos.
  • Helmeted Guineafowl: Useful African fowl that is common in zoos.
  • Chinese Goose: Cool looking goose if we get one.
Cows: (at least one warm- and cold weather cow is needed)
  • Highland Cow: very iconic and fluffy breed of cow that I've seen in several zoos in the United states despite the lack of other European animals
  • Watusi Cow: Another iconic and popular breed of cow with huge horns that originates from Africa. I've seen it it a few zoos
Equids:
  • Mediterranean Mini Donkey: Common in zoos, cute, and adds something for the Mediterranean.
    OR
  • Shetland Pony: Cute pony, but I'm not sure how they'd do the colors.
Pigs:
  • Kunekune: fluffy pig from New Zealand.
    OR
  • Pot Bellied Pig: a pig I see often in zoos
Sheep:
  • Valais Blacknose: My favorite sheep is adorable.
Maybe a rabbit, alpaca, or yak would be good, too?

On domestics i just care about ducks and maybe rabbits.

Highlands cow is the only cow i would be fine with. Ankole would be ok as well.

Don't want domestic pigs.

Gimme galliformes: guineafowls, pheasants, turkey, but not chickens that look like chickens.

Shetland pony is acceptable.

Alpaca is fine but not necessary imo.

I think it depends a little on how we are defining "Petting Zoo" cos there are animals which are domestic animals found in Zoos that I wouldn't really consider suitable for petting as such?

That said, if I were going for a "Domesticates Pack" I think I would go something like:

Alpaca
Greylag Goose (inc white "Farmyard" morphs)
Guinea Fowl
Manx Loaghtan (sheep)
Pygmy Goats
Shetland Pony
Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig
Exhibit: Guinea Pigs
