2024 Essential Habitat Animals Meta-Wishlist:

If people can put "African Leopard" on their wishlist then I should be allowed to put 50 unique, extremely cool species of Waterfowl on mine.
Of course you are allowed to do anything you want with your list but are those ducks really your 50 most wanted species. Because I don’t think it’s true.

TBF, the African Leopard is officially it's own taxon. When the Great Leopard debate was taking place before the Conservation pack, some people just wanted "Leopard" with phenotype morphs to cover Amur, Arabian, African etc. I was heavily against that, and now there's at least somewhat of a good argument to get an African Leopard, in say, a Safari Pack, whereas 2 years ago there wasn't.

I think both groups are wrong, voting for 50 ducks when there are things like Secretary Birds that modders can't even TOUCH or create is silly in my book, and who wants another Brown bear or leopard clone when you can have more unique animals.

I'm glad modders made the Victoria Crowned Pigeon, Gerenuk, Echidna, Markhor, Shoebill and Aye-Aye perfectly, but they can't make good Leopard Seals, Walrus, Muntjac, Dik-Dik, Yak, Secretary Birds, Pelicans, Ratels and Gaur yet, so I really want those animals as well in official packs. Oh there is a good looking Musk Ox, but it disfigures when you walk away from it, then you can see it's modded and ugly, too bad, so I want a official Musk Ox as well. The Serval and Ocelot mods have trouble with water.

Leopard Seal is my top priority, modders just ignore it as they don't want unrealistic zoo animals in the game and so I need a good frontier model, everything is possible now with Saiga in the game.

Honestly now with the final DLC of 2023 known and looking at what people are wanting to see for 2024, I think the writing is kind of on the wall that this is the last year of official support for the PZ. It's clear now that aside from South America and monkeys, most of the gaps in the game’s roster are animal “categories” that are intentionally being left out by the dev team for a possible PZ2. Birds, fully aquatics, and species that fall in a “grey area” exhibit/habitat-wise, etc.

Not necessarily a bad thing, just interesting to make note of/see happening. Nevertheless, when I get the chance I’ll upload my personal wishlist here too!

Now that we got the wolverine rig ratel mod should be updated to that and will be way better. Ocelot mod looks amazing o didn't know it has trouble with water thought. Dik dik mod is also fantastic. I don't remember seeing a yak mod but i don't think cows are the most challenging of mods to make. I recall seeing a Gaur mod i believe and it looks fine.

Out of your list i agree that pelicans ,gerenuk (model is beautiful but we really need a new animation set for them) serval and deffinetly secretary bird will be better as official animals. Their unique shapes and behaviours need their own model / animations.

Same goes for the mara. Rabbits on the other hand work susprisingly well on the quokka rig but of course an exclusive rig will make them 100% better.

I just wish most mods were updated. There are a lot of good ones that haven't been updated in a long time.

The dik-dik I used was kinda ugly from far away, the animal they used to create it was showing from a distance, I don't like such bugs at all.

The gaur looked very unnatural, but maybe they improved it in the meantime?

Many animals have trouble with water, they walk on water or something extremely buggy is happening when they enter water.

THE Generuk, Markhor and Shoebill mods however are very perfect in the looks apartment, but yeah I agree they need their special things like standing up to trees and clapping with their huge beaks.

Alligator Snapping Turtle could also use some work.

With random goat's blessing, I am starting a new wishlist for HABITAT animals only. This one will account for prioritization. You can post 10 to 50 animals. The first animal should be your favorite, and the last should be your least favorite.

There will be no resubmissions, but the list will be renewed each year until they stop making DLCs. Posts may be edited throughout the current month, but I won't look at new changes after the month ends. (i.e. If the ORIGINAL post was on December 15th, I won't start adding it until January 1st. Then, you can't edit animals.) Please use this time to correct formatting and remove disqualified animals.

The spirit and basic rules of the thread will be similar to those of the first one. Which means:
  • What to do and how the lists work:
    • For the sake of keeping the same wishlist structure, I ask you to post your 10-50 essential habitat animals that you’d like to see in the game. Lists with anything above 50 or under 10 animals will be discarded.
    • ONLY THE FIRST 25 animals will be counted for a list with the counts.
    • I may combine the values of the lists in the future.
    • Please use the numbered list.
    • The "Favorites" list will incorporate the animals people want the most
      • X = position on wishlist
      • Y = list length
      • Priority points received = (list length + 1 - X) / (Y*(Y+1)/2) * 100
    • To simplify data collection, those answers that include several species in one slot (eg.: pelican) will be automatically treated as a single animal and added to the most requested species inside that generic animal group (eg. in this case: Great White Pelican). This obviously leads to an underestimation of the total key requested animals.
  • What not to vote for:
    • Exhibit animals will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Exhibit animals include arthropods, amphibians, snakes, other small reptiles (< iguanas), small fish, sloths, and tiny mammals (tamarin is about the smallest).
    • Flying birds and bats usually housed in aviaries will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Flying aviary birds include birds of prey, parrots, Columbiformes (pigeons), Passeriformes (small birds), Charadriiformes (gulls) and so on. If it spends most of its time flying or perching, it does not belong on the list.
    • Extinct and cryptid species will not be considered.
    • Animals that are already in the game.
  • What is allowed:
    • Most extant animals that will work within the constraints of the game.
    • As a general rule of thumb, animal species is the preferred category for animal submissions. Subspecies from already in-game animals are also accepted. Subspecies from animals that are not in-game will automatically be allocated to the superior species category. Specific domestic animals breeds are also accepted.
    • Mainly ground-dwelling or semi-aquatic birds (mainly Waterfowl, Galliformes, Ratites, Pelecaniformes, Cranes, Penguins, etc.) will be added to the list.
    • Aquatic animals roughly the size of a dwarf caiman and up are allowed on the list.
