Newcomer / Intro Federal Corvette, 200+ million credits.......and I haven't got a clue what to do.

Hi all. A couple of years ago I had grown tired of game so I switched to playing Codemaster's F1 series. Now, I fancy a return to ED but have forgotten everything I ever knew . My first question is is there any way to go back into the training programmes, to get me up to speed with things? Secondly, I downloaded a new profile for my Saitek X52 Pro (X52ProEliteV223.pr0) but have no idea how to get the game to recognise this as my default profile. Apologies if this is basic stuff to some of you.

Training missions are accessible from the main menu.

For a FC, rank up with the Federation until you unlock it, and get lots of credits to outfit it AND cover rebuys.

Edit: intending to go from training missions right to FC? Not a recipe for success or longevity IMO.

I think the OP means they have 200 million Cr and a FC, but forgot how to play :)

Training missions are available from either Main Menu or the right panel of your ship (Home tab).

As for the bindings, you need to copy the profile (.binds file) into C:\Users\ [ Your Username] \AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings - or you can just paste this into Windows Explorer "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings"

If you have changed the filename, ensure the same name is in line 2 of that file under PresetName parameter (see screenshot).

3.0 files are for Legacy and 4.0 are for Live version of the game, but I presume you play live anyway, so just ensure the filename has 4.0 in it and the MajorVersion in the file is listed as 4 as well, per my screenshot).

Once done, the new binding should be available to choose in game.

To avoid confusion I suggest using something like Vette as an abbreviation not FC as that is mostly used for the Fleet Carrier which is a somewhat different beast.

Thanks rootstrat but I am still having a problem. I think it is probably best if I deal with one issue at a time. Training Missions.........

I load the game via my Steam account. After selecting 'Play' the game loads. Before you get the 'Preparing Sliders' page there is a page showing 'Elite Dangerous Odyssey'. I mention this because the first game image is of my ship in dock and in the top left is 'Elite Dangerous Horizons', as seen it the attached picture. As you can also see, there is no Training Missions option. I guess I am looking in the wrong place so any further information would be gratefully - if somewhat embarrassingly - appreciated.

When you click "Continue" there will be a tab "Training" on the right side where you find all the tutorials.

If you have bought Odyssey you choose "Versions" in the launcher to select it.

A fully kitted-out Corvette is very survivable ofc, but also has a Rebuy around 45 million. So maybe when you're done with the training missions, you might want to hop into something small(er) to really get back into the groove first. ^^

Also depends on what you're interested in doing. There's a large scale Thargoid invasion going on (we've ed them off with attempted genocide one too many times) where mankind can use every helping hand, but of course it requires specialized ships. A popular easy-entry go to is the Krait MkIl with Enhanced AX Multicannons. But ofc the Goids are endgame enemies, entirely different league than your average RES pirate. Very profitable though. ^^

Hi Guys. Apologies for the delay in responding but I have been away visiting relatives. Metatheurgist / Zalwig thanks, I found the training section. TBH, I was a little wary in case 'Continue' auto-launched me out of the spaceport and left me floating in space not knowing how to fly! :). Kayvan, I have a Sidewinder but can't use it as the Corvette has 199 Units of cargo. The same issue is obviously stopping me buying another vessel sooooooo.........it looks as the only way forward is to sell my cargo at a huge loss (at the station I am at now) or go looking for somewhere where I can mitigate my losses. Should I chose the latter, I first need to sort the profile for my Saitek X52 Pro.

Hauling cargo in a Vette, here we have a man who likes to suffer. 😁
But yeah, do that then. =) Just for your cargo run the profile doesn't need to be perfect. You can evade an interdiction with anything, even a Type 9.
Ah, I just saw again that you downloaded a profile and don't know how to install it. Well, neither do I, sorry. ^^ I've always configured my controls directly in game.

More importantly, you'll find that EDDB doesn't exist anymore. Most of the 3rd party functions are now wrapped into Inara. Here you can also go to find a good market for your merchandise: https://inara.cz/elite/commodities/
Just punch in your current system and what you have to sell, then in the additional options you can set Min Landing Pad to Large, disable surface ports, and go. Keep an eye on the distance to station (the closer the better), and drop the stuff off in the closest viable system. Then you can continue with the fun bit.

A Sidey may be a bit too flimsy. ^^ If you're interested in combat, something like a Vulture or a Chieftain are excellent choices. I think nowadays the Krait MkII is lauded as the best multi-purpose mission runner, though personally I don't like it very much, and it'll actually be too expensive to outfit for your current piggybank status. ;)

Didn't there used to be also some (all?) training missions that woudn't involve switching ships, i.e. you keep your current ship and jsut get plopped into the training ship (Sidey?) for the duration of the training misison?

As for your 199 tons of cargo - what is it, where are you, what did you pay for it originally and how much of a loss are you willing to take? A Fleet Carrier (FC) owner might be willing to start the new year with a good deed and take it off your hands.
