Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It's a rock that I noticed some time ago, with a very distinctive shape. This makes it easy to identify when you see one. Most of the 'scattered' rocks are boring shapes that you really can't remember or distinguish, but this one sticks out.

I called it the "Rock of Ubiquity" when I made a post about it. But everyone else decided to called it "Codger's Rock".

If you find one on a planet, there will be many more on that planet.

Here's a few shots of it (them).

I recognised it as soon as someone posted the first image! I've definitely seen plenty of those lying around. One thing I've been wondering about, which I've still not seen a definitive answer to even with these pictures, is whether the scattered rocks draw from a limited pool of identical meshes, or if the meshes are somehow procedurally generated. Or perhaps there's a limited pool of meshes which get stretched and resized, or something like that. Has anyone found a definitive answer as to just how "unique" these scattered rocks really are?

From what I understand there are sets of meshes for different types of worlds.

They are definitely pre-made, though, and not procedural.

The scattering and selection are procedural, but not the meshes.

Very quiet at FDev Towers at the moment... no surprises I s'pose. There was this in case anyone missed it:

There are some distinctively shaped rocks out there, no doubt.
Fist time I realized some pattern was with a rock I usually call the "Sandcrawler".
I don't have a picture of it, but I'm sure you have seen some of them around the galaxy...
They don't come as often as Codger's Rocks, though. They are a little more spread out.

Server maintenance eh? I hope they don't have an accident and shut everything down according to a hidden agenda. Conspiracy theories abound, watch out.

Ship recall has... not gone well

I'd say that's a better result than when it comes down, hovers for a few seconds, and then smegs off right back into space. Which is something that happened to me a few times when I've recalled my ship.
That is practically perfect.

I have played in the aftermath with lots of commanders when one had his ship try, unsuccessfully, to fly through a cliff and many times I have seen where mine or others ships have landed on the equivalent of the top of that pointy mountain in the background leaving nearly 2 km of ascent to try and drive to them.

I've seen at least two videos on the subreddit of a CMDR recalling their ship, only to see it drop out of the sky like a brick before bouncing once and going kaboom. Now that's funny.

I bet that CMDR had about 2bnCR worth of explo data to hand in too. That would be about right.

I once had my Phantom land on it's front leg and pirouette round it in a weird non-stop ballet. Or, sometimes, my ship will "land" with all its feet about 5m up so I couldn't board it.

The incident gave us this thread.
