Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Badger and I popped onto SC the other night...since neither of us had played in almost a year (proper Grand Admiral concierge backers that we are). After half an hour each picking a new hairdo from the exhaustive list of half a dozen new and fancy coiffures in the character creator... surprise, surprise...nothing else worked :D
Did anyone else from Wind of the Willows get Idrissed up?

Our friendly neighbourhood ex-CIG dev account is back. With some slightly more detailed claims about US layoffs:

There's already layoffs currently happening at CIG, but they are trying to keep it a secret. They are partially closing their two US studios (mostly cutting all devs positions in Los Angeles and positions unrelated to ships in Austin). Most of them got laid off and others got a ridiculous choice that nobody will take ; move to Manchester AND take a pay cut. They are calling it "restructuration and relocalisation".

Oh interesting timing... from a Level Designer in Austin...

I'm sad to say that I've been laid off from my position as Level Designer at Cloud Imperium Games due to restructuring. I will really miss working alongside some truly amazing people. The challenges and acomplishments that we experienced together will not be forgotten.

As I navigate this transition, I am excited about the prospect of exploring new opportunities, particularly in the realm of level design. I am reaching out to my network and would be grateful for any support or leads you may have in this regard.

I know so many others in this industry find themselves in the same situation as myself, I wish the best and please reach out if I can help in any way.

(He's one of the many student / zero experience hires, so I won't link direct. I'm sure anyone who really wants to find it can find it though).

EDIT: Bonus colour....

Very happy to have shipped the Derelict Settlements in Star Citizen. This was my first time spearheading level design on a mandate, and boy was it a voyage in shipping fifteen unique locations. Thanks to all the amazing people behind this. I can't wait to jump in and play with the players!

Metroid Prime dev and 10-year-backer:

It's in a slow spaghetti code death spiral of assets that are designed to only work with this Frankencode abomination hackfest.

Spectrum:
Elite Dangerous 2 on Star Engine would literally become the best space game ever for me.
I trust CIG more than Frontier at this point. The main reason is CIG is focused solely on space games.
Didn't they want another Wing Commander?

The only switch I would consider possibly to be a good move for Elite Dangerous might be to Unreal 5, but it's a nonsense question as I don't know if anyone here knows how much Cobra has dedicated features that make Elite Dangerous work. Though I'd say we all can see how Star Engine would not work for any fantasy nightmare Elite Dangerous 2 OP has in their head.

It only later occurred to me how blasphemous that statement was. It means that Star Citizen could never be the BDSSE because that spot, in their mind, would be reserved for The Lord's Verse made with The Chris' (Cry)Tech and why not just forget CR's vision.

The only engine demonstrably capable of making an ED like game is Cobra. There are no other games that even come close.

I'm not even going to dignify that other engine by calling it by its fake name. When they can make more than 1/4 of a system, have a star that isn't a point light source that isn't even in the center of the system and have more than joke sized 1/6 scale planets, then we can take them seriously.

One of the areas these people fall over on is the planet generation, they think of ED used the SC Engine they would end up with billions of planets like the ones in the tiny current SC partial solar system, but they don't seem to understand that it isn't the engine that makes the planets, it's the hard work of manual planet crafters who make every square inch of each planet. Oh sure you could have billions of planets, but they would probably be direct copies of about 6 planets at most. The fact that despite this amazing engine that they think SC is based they have never been able to actually get more than a couple of planets and a part of a single solar system online in the same time that players have explored millions of planets in ED escapes them entirely.

They are entirely blinded by the pretty stuff, even when it kills them over and over again for no reason.

Bartender possession confirmed? 😁

If it makes you feel any better, we know a guy who has been a transformed quasi-bartender since before 3.21. He "interacted" with a bartender on HURL2 and got stuck AS a bartender. It's been at least 3 patches and that account is still messed up.

I have heard/read stories about a few other players with the same issue.

Ask for a refund, request a new account, buy a new package or wait it out. His choice.

EDIT:

Oh it gets better, they're a concierge bartender 😁

He is STILL an NPC. So far support has done 0 for him, and he's at least $1K deep in Pledges.

EDIT2:

Any citizen of the stars fancy copy/pasting this issue council here? (It is blocked for freeloading FUDsters :/)
