Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm going to try a different approach to my CZ tactics. Whist the dual wielding of long-range Aphelions is fun, I'm going to try a more up-close-and-personal method and see how I get on.

It'll be a night vision Dom with ammo, shield and damage resistance with an Intimidator, Eclipse and Tormentor. I may swap out the Eclipse for an AR-50 though.

I'll probably die quite quickly.
If you want quick try dual wielding L-6 though thinking about it you might not need two for close up work.

I even use keyboard in combat, I've got yaw above roll (right hand) and lateral all in reach of pitch (old-school SX for me) so using all six DOF is no worse than playing piano in C sharp minor. Throttle presets in a column down the numpad for punch-in convenience.

I do too.
  • pitch and yaw on mouse (with pitch up on space too so i can keep use relative mouse on all the time).
  • wasd - vertical and lateral thrusters
  • qe - roll
  • x, r, f - 0,75,50 throttle (mouse scroll also bound to throttle in the smallest increments possible)
  • z - fa off/on
  • and on mouse i do have lateral buttons for forward/backward throttle, pips, module subtargeting, supercruise, etc (mmo mouse with 18 buttons and a shift key - an EVGA X15)

Took me some time to adjust from flying on XB using the controller which used almost default bindings - but i find it quite fine for both fa on and fa off combat (not like i'm an fa off ace or anything, but i could do Basilisks with mostly FA off flying even tho i'm struggling with general fa off flying)

Hi :)
I use a Thrustmaster T16000m joystick for most of the main flight controls, and some menu's.
A wired Logitech G19 keyboard.
A cheap Goodmans mouse (£10), it's got rgb lighting and 7 functions. it's lasting pretty well. (Two years now)(y) I bought a spare as it's so cheap. The two side buttons are programmed to open up the main map and system maps, and some standard in game menu stuff.

Okay, back to my mining ...:D

Jack :)

Right.

I don't like the shotgun in CZ's. The Eclipse is OK-ish, so I'll keep that, but the AR-50 is coming along on my next trip instead of the Intimidator.

The gameplay feels very different indeed so I'm going to stick with it for a bit and see how it pans out.

I could try the L-6 though - as @aRJay alludes to - but when I tried that before (yes, dual wielded :D ) they ran out of ammo very quickly even with ammo mods on suit and gun.

I could try the Oppressor but that feels way too underpowered. And the one I have has very naive mods on it. The C-44... well... I can't justify using up a gun slot for that. I suppose it may come in useful one day.

Now, I managed to quit the last CZ by accident after I died - does that count as a loss?

EDIT - 2 million views on this thread? When did that happen???

OK, apologies for spam - posting again :D

Just finished a fine little fight using an Eclipse and AR-50. Worked very well indeed - those bullet sponge Enforcers really hate the AR-50 when their shields are kaput. Yummy. Thing is with this loadout is that weapon swapping is very much the tactic du jour - Eclipse to shield strip, the Colonial Marine machine gun ("This is the M41A pulse rifle... feel the weight") to end the enemy.

The AR-50 I was just using has faster handling, stability, improved hip fire and mag size. What it really lacks is reload speed but that would mean losing the hip fire mod and... yes... doing another gun :D

Oh, how I wish we could swap mods around or, at least, be able to delete one so it could be replaced.

Dual L6 with Increased magazine size and Stowed reloading - works like a charm and you will get used with the swap timings so you'll always have them reloaded when you swap
I also used L6 + Intimidator + Tormentor
Intimidator is nice in CZ, but only in close combat (unless you go for the bugged slug build and bug it on purpose)

L6 + Aphelion + Headshot P-15 - another nice combo

Eclipse + C-44 + Tormentor,. another winning combo (ofc with headshot on C44)

Unfortunately, this ancient technology is long forgotten since at least a thousand years.

So, y'all where spared yesterday's (mis-) adventures because it was late, and I was tired!

But you're in luck, I'm hear now

I logged back in at HIP 17125, but the Thargoid wreck was still in darkness. So I took off and visited the Victoria's Song Megaship, also in the HIP 17125 system.

And also in darkness:

I scanned and downloaded the audio logs, and was reminded I shouldn't trust Aegis.

Then I remembered I've been participating in the current CG's...

After that, I moved on to do a spot of geology:

It was here that I discovered what happens when you A) don't pay close enough attention to the 'Dangerously high temperature' warning and B) run out of health 10 feet from getting back into your SRV because you can't remember what the default first aid keybind is. 6. It's 6.

Anyway, the Rescue Rangers revived me and put me back in my ship, in orbit. I lost my SRV and 50kcr of Codex Discoveries, so it wasn't so bad. My ship survived, so all my scan/survey data was saved.

After this rather inauspicious turn, and with nearly everywhere I visit being in darkness, I decided to head of to the Witchead Nebula for more exploring - I'll be heading back through the Pleiades when I go down to the California Nebula (and from there, way out to Jellyfish and Crab Nebulae - it's a trip I've made many times, and just over 3k LY, so good for unlocking Palin. With stations in both Nebulae, so you can cash in your outbound data before the return leg).

I found another Megaship, Messenger NY22, don't quite recall which system, but it was pretty close to the Pleiades:

And, you know, it was in daylight!

About 1/3-1/2 the way to Wictchead I stopped off to snag a first footfall:

Then bounced over to another planet in the same system to pick up more geology and scan a solitary bio-sign:

I was anticipating puddles of bacteria, instead I found myself craving a Walnut Whip...

I haven't seen bark mounds since my very first trip to the California Nebula, when such things where newly discovered. These seemed much more impressive.

Need to cover some more distance, or this jaunt will take forever!

I am disapointed not to have stumbled across a Codger's Rock yet, though!

Edit: Oh, I meant to say - I use a Thrustmaster T16K and accompanying Throttle Quad for all space and SRV operations, Mouse and Keyboard for everything else (there are some ship operations keybinds I keep on keyboard, too - I find them easier to remember than all those joystick buttons!). Keyboard is a chunky Roccat mechanical keyboard (an older Ryos MK, I think), with a cheap n' cheerful 5 button mouse (R,L, Wheel and 2 thumb buttons - anymore is too many!) bought at random from Amazon whenever the current one is showing signs of failure. Reminds me, I gotta take the T16k apart this weekend, getting potentiometer induced pull to the left again...

Had a session with our squad leader as a further tutorial about Guardian sites for the FSD module.

I love these ruins and how Sentinels explode when melted with plasma, and as a bonus there is a half-pipe spot for SRV riding.
Conspiracy theory #1345214: Guardians were skaters.

Thanks to him for a fun and instructive moment o7

More Odyssey weirdness? I'm a little unsure now after Codger settled the record on the start system thing.

I went to my old home in Wolf 359 and made it my HQ so I could build up rep for better missions, then decided to head out to Maia so I could get some meta alloys for Felicity Farseer. As I was about 15 jumps down I started getting messages saying I'd fully unlocked some nice early engineers. :D Maybe I would've unlocked Felicity as well if she hadn't already sent me a message. I didn't mind doing it the old fashioned way though since it was always my favourite engineer system to mess around in.

Though I did get ganked on my first run with the alloy. A fat lot of good those two security guys were. Maybe they were finishing off their doughnuts. I entered the system in solo the second time around. Partly because I barely had enough cash for a rebuy. The Cobra modules are maxed out.

Someone interdicted me as I was taking a pic before Maia so I had to do it again. Poor old Limpy wouldn't return to the ship so I had to leave him behind to die in the deep cold black of space. ;_;

That fight wasn't the reason for my 33% paintjob though. Some Dangerous mission dweeb had previously caught me off guard with an interdiction before stripping my shields within a couple of seconds. I had no choice but to reboot as I was completely immobile with 10% hull. He seemed to keep at a distance as I powered back up and that gave me a chance to speed off as he came back in for the attack. The fool!

Exact same thing (same engineers, same timescale, same outcome) happened to me with Engineers last week, just after I got re-started playing:

I went to my old home in Wolf 359 and made it my HQ so I could build up rep for better missions, then decided to head out to Maia so I could get some meta alloys for Felicity Farseer. I didn't mind doing it the old fashioned way though since it was always my favourite engineer system to mess around in.

Also, is something up with unlocking Engineers? Palin Farseer is progressing as normal, waiting on me bringing a unit of Meta Alloys, But 'Blaster' and Elvira are behaving as if I gave them a bounty voucher/Soontil Relics as soon as I got the invites, and I haven't done that. The Dweller has also opened up even though I haven't traded on any Black Markets yet. Known glitches? Just looser requirements now?

Consensus was 'been glitchy for a while' - not specifically an Odyssey thing, as it didn't happen a couple of years back when I first started playing Odyssey.
