Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

There are a lot of little tricks you can use to even the odds, NPC's are predictable, they always use boost and every ship type behaves almost exactly the same every time, use it against them. Imperial Clippers always lumber in and will ram you, expect it, then they slowly turn away twisting and bobbing, easy to follow their gyrations and put a full clip in them from your auto-cannons. Smaller ships are super fast, auto-cannons track much better than lasers, just a few examples of tricks to help.
One trick to take advantage of behaviours I used to use a lot was if I was after a Python I would try to fly right up behind it so I could clearly see the door before opening fire with everything, they had a tendency to dither about which way to manoeuvre to get away and fight back so I could get sometimes drain the capacitor of my FdL into them for no return fire very satisfying.
That unlocking of gimble targetting to give you fixed weapons seems so obvious in hindsight but it didn't occur to me until recently when I saw people like yourself bring it up. It's a really interesting tactical option.
Wow, that is interesting to read, too, when more exp cmdrs go chatty about ship combat!

@KnezBP : with all due respect to PvE/PvP aces that would obliterate every NPC (and each others on YT) within seconds, as being myself a low combat-skilled, petty adventurer with random ships, I don't feel ashamed to use gimballed, because every little advantage that can improve my survival in ED harsh universe is worth to be taken, especially while on the process of learning with a more vulnerable ship and poor know-how, and when surrounded by a swarm of NPC pirates, I don't care about chivalry jousting.

(Sorry about the spam, too much spare time with that crippled wrist and ED still updating...)

My main battleship uses gimballed lazorz and turreted MC's.

I went ahead and watched Mechan's "Titanfall" video on Youtube, because there is no way I'll be doing any of this new 'gameplay'.

It's striking to me how it requires a group of players, much like an end-game raid in an MMO. There's nothing you can do solo. This is a boss fight, and you need to come as a group.

It's also somewhat gross, to be honest. Expose the Titan's dangly bits and then shoot at them while it screams. Yeah, not the sort of feeling I want from the game myself.

The AX guys seem to be having fun with it, so more power to them.

Maybe once all this Thargoid focus dies down a bit, FDEV can throw a bone or two to the rest of us. It's been a long year of nothing new for anyone else.

One can hope.

Finally completed my new AR50. Time to see how it holds up.

This part is okay to me. Have been playing a lot of NWO and enjoyed the boss fights with a well-coordinated (sort of) team. Fond memories.

Well, that's gross, ideed. Ew.

Yeah, those who aren't good at fighting or prefer exploration have been left behind a little.
Some missed opportunities, I think, as my mind quickly came up with a few ideas to spice up exploring while also give the explorers something to add to the efforts against the Thargoids. Some were more complex and would have needed a lot more time to implement, but some ideas I had feel like they would have been relatively easy to implement, seeing that they put in something along the lines of one of my ideas on the spire sites.

As the state is right now, I fully agree with you in hoping for a bone or two (maybe with some meat on them?) for us. Hope dies last.

Actually you do need to be a little wary about that, thermal vent beams only cool you down when they hit the target if they miss you heat up faster so leaving such a turret running if there is a lot of chaff can lead to issues.
Yeah, that is an issue. You definitely need to stay on top of that. But I feel like that would be easier than having your ship precisely pointing where you need to have it to use the beam.

Hope you feel better soon CMDR!

Do not, under any circumstances, google the Magmaw boss from World of Warcraft. A giant fire worm, that vomits magma onto players.

Known by some rather colourful euphemisms 🔥🍆

I'll see myself out.

^ This. Completely.

I'm sure there will be, lots has been promised for this year (even if only vague terms). U18 reads like the beggining of the wrap-up to the Thargoid War - I expect it won't just be 'one and done' though, there's bound to be more stages.

Whilst I don't see Thargoids being a 'player; in PP 2.0 like a lot of folks seem to, I don't think they'll ever really go away entirely - at the least they'll remain like the Thargoids of the original Elite - a boogeyman lurking in Witchspace to snare unwary travellers.

I hope for something in between the two, though.

I think us none "'goid War Warriors" can realistically expect to start seeing new stuff in the summer.

I'm not keen on having to "group up", personally. Just not my style. I know there's arguments for "but it's a multiplayer game" but I've always been a solo player.

I realise that methodology will never get me into the end game stuff but I:m fine with that.

In my experience, all the turrets that have been used against me seem pretty wimpy, the best I've seen are the ones the Imperial Clippers pack in their nacelles, they can be rather aggravating when your shields are down.

I don't know about PvP, but in PvE, they are able to stand their ground for pilots that still try to figure out how to fly their ships. They might not have the punch of the other options, but they stay on target for longer, even if you slightly fumble your trajectory.

Question (only indirectly related to this post): What do you use to post on this forum?
