Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Not sure it's that funny when you consider Odyssey PC alpha ran for just a few weeks from March 29, 2021 to May 5, 2021 yet the Star Citizen "Alpha" has been bought into for hard cash since the Kickstarter and playable in unstable "ALPHA" (plz no criticism) form since 29th of August 2013.

Is it an "Alpha" testing phase if there's no transition into a release? It just becomes an excuse for developers to avoid accountability.
They had open alpha just for a couple of weeks like you say. I called them out the release wouldn't be in a favourable state when they announced it because it was so little time until release. It's true that criticism wasn't very popular. It still isn't today. But everybody who can put it into perspective can clearly see that:
a) ODY released
b) ODY was improved
c) core gameplay of ODY worked

*some say EDO - I keep saying ODY

I disagree, Odyssey was hammered everywhere - from the moment the Alpha went live the mainstream press were very critical. Steam reviews were bad. YouTube reviews were bad etc.

People may not have been in universal agreement on the forums, but that would be weird.

Regardless, I still would rather see everything that a developer wants cash for available for consumer review. Odyssey fails to stand up on it's own merits but at least it doesn't try to shirk them via a perpetual "Alpha" phase or simply flipping payment into a "pledge" - Star Citizen also fails to stand up on it's own merits which is why it needs a constant parade of backers and shills to defend it.

Initially the discussion was about criticism on this forum. You're right - the general public wasn't as merciful.

You want a forum that speaks as one voice and where subjective opinion is removed? Have you tried Spectrum?
Of course not. The general mood here was maybe widespread disappointment. I'm no lover of ED and when EDO released I didn't really feel like kicking on the helpless puppy crawling over the floor. On the contrary: I've always said that FD wasn't maybe open, but they sure didn't hide the state of the game but showing exactly what state it is via the open alpha and the fact that release was only a few weeks from there. With that info everybody should have been able to draw the conclusion.

LOL, so basically separate instances running on separate servers, chosen via the menu.

In other words, not meshed. This is exactly what I said CIG should do if Pyro is ready and server meshing isn't. Just put it on a separate server as a separate menu choice.

This is CIG once again pulling the wool over backers' eyes. You can guarantee people like ChatJ3PT will now be saying server meshing is in game (on the alpha-alpha-alpha-alpha channel).
