Is E: D boosting PC sales?

I will initially be using an i5 acer laptop quite high spec but sorting out a gaming rig over Xmas. Is a flightstick essential for ED? Can I run game on 2 pcs if I go away and take my laptop with me say? Cheers.

"Broadwell" comes out early 2015 which is a die shrink of the current "Haswell" architecture and then at the end of 2015 Intel are due to release "Skylake" which is a new architecture based on the 14nm process introduced with Broadwell ;)
Bringing 20 lanes of PCI-E to mainstream CPUs and DDR4 to the mainstream although the memory controller will be able to handle DDR3 should the MB maker stick DDR3 slots on it.

And a "tock" is a new architecture, a "tick" is a die shrink of said architecture...

I tend to only ever by "tocks" because...
Get a MB on a tock, 2 years later it dies, you can easily find a tick motherboard to use with your CPU and RAM.
Get a tick and it dies after 2 or 3 years...you'll have a hard job finding a decent tick motherboard :/

Buying tock gives me greater longevity.

I don’t think I want to wait till late 2015. Cheers for the info.

I nearly bought a K70 mainly for the individually programmable key lights, I was put off by the reviews on amazon of LED failures, How is yours and over what usage/time period

What I would love is a screen or keyboard that I could name the keys IE 'gear' 'hardpoints' and change those names for each game. like a real instrument panel.

My Black K70 Red switch/Red backlight is ok at the moment

I have spoken to three other people in my town (Bolton: UK) who have told me they have built (or planning to build), like me, a pc that can run this game. I understand other games are coming out that are exciting, but E: D was the one they mentioned.

Extrapolating that, it could be that thousands of computers are being built/upgraded to play this game. I'm not claiming that e: D will fix the global economy, but they will certainly boost PC sales more than anything I can recall. May even hit PS4 and Xbox sales?

Well, although I did need to upgrade my pc with a newer i7 Six Core Processor i7-5930K (3.5GHz). I did have Elite: Dangerous in mind, especially for when I get the occulus rift for it. Having said that, I do still play a few other games aside from this one.

Shok.

Mainstream PCs with chips based on the Broadwell architecture—Intel’s fifth-generation Core processors—will ship in the first quarter next year. But in the second half next year, users will be able to buy PCs with processors based on the newer Skylake architecture, which will bring wire-free computing and significant performance upgrades.

Intel wants to bring the latest technology to buyers as quickly as possible, and would like to close the curtain on Broadwell’s troubled existence. Mainstream PCs with Broadwell were expected this year, but were delayed following manufacturing issues that delayed chip shipments.

Skylake chips will have the biggest PC innovations in the last 10 years, Intel believes. Skylake will bring wireless charging and data transfers, and also a “significant increase in performance, battery life and power efficiency,” said Kirk Skaugen, general manager of Intel’s PC Client Group, during last week’s Intel Developer Forum.

Dam now I feel I want to wait till the end of 2015.

With many months of testing ED I'm not seeing one needs a lot of high end gear to play the game. FD knows this and designed it to play on many platforms. A wise business decision. It is more of an emotional decision with fans of the Elite games spending big bucks on hardware versus what is actually required.

I play the game on a system designed for editing HD videos using Adobe software per my commercial business. I own the company so I can play. Checking the performance monitor ED doesn't get past 10 percent of what is available. You can pretty much play this game on a low end laptop with a X-Box controller with a Wifi connection. You don't need a lot of expensive hardware to play. What you need is hours of game play to become proficient in the Elite universe.

I know what you are saying. I still have DOS computers in the basement running every version of Elite as well as some U.K. hardware.

Yeah I know this but I’m just going to treat myself as I tend to keep my Pc for years and years although keeping this one ten years is probably a reflection of my age these days and my interest in games.

While I fully trust Elite as in the original will be well polished and run well using the minimum due to professional coding I’m not to sure my other game is lol in DayZ in fact I feel it’s a bit of a dog but them people with monster rigs still say it runs poor but its only Alpha.

When you ask someone that know what they are talking about they rightly just advise a I5 CPU will run games fine.

My pc was bought with ED in mind.

If it all goes as in our dreams and we need/want a Oculus Rift when it is released will our PC's be enough then?

In game I get 59 FPS ( to check use Ctrl + f) but it drops to 40ish before stuttering starts.

what will the min specs be for elite with a rift does anyone know?

I,m wavering where did you get it for £100 the lowest price I've seen is £119

I just bought a new gaming rig, for 2200 €. E: D was a big reason for it - can't wait to play the final release in December! (even bought a DK2 :D)

A PC for 2200€ ... yeah... ok... my PCs never cost more than 900€ and I would never buy one for more than 1000€!

E : D won't boost PC sales. People have always a reason to buy new hardware. Often it's a game they couldn't play otherwise. E : D has a large fanbase, but the number of people who buy a new PC because of it is insignificant compared to the total number of sold PCs I'd say.

Well i just spent 2g on a PC for this and SC (and W3 DA:I etc)

SO YES !

AMD and Nvidia must be loving the space genre right now

I would never buy a Ferrari for 100000 euros but only because I can not afford it
