I assume they are just kinda pretending they never pre-sold Squadron 42 or it's other two sequels.

2 days and still no thread on Spectrum about CIGs finances.
It continues to bemuse me.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...-are-upset-s-c-has-become-more-like-t/6669135They haven't though if you look at their annual financial report. CIG basically has to keep increasing revenue.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...aving-arguments-about-the-game-and-wh/6670467a game needs to be sold, and CIG lives on sale to sales. read the CIG financial report and you will see at the end of the year the profit is minimal.
old money is gone, they need new money.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...nion-kill-markers-do-not-belong-in-st/6668454This was to be @croberts68 Magnum Opus; his crowning glory to his career. As such it would be a genuine shame if he would just turn everything into a generic looter shooter that are a dime-a-dozen on consoles. I still remember him standing there so proud next to that display stand of Wing Commander 2 games.
I also remember how Microsoft did him dirty and kicked him off Freelancer while only keeping him on as an 'advisor' and that they pushed out a half-finished product. As I recall he left the gaming industry behind shortly after and swore never to work with that den of vipers.
As such I'm truly hoping he still remembers that and that the reason he got more than half a billion dollars from us regular Joe's was for the premise of creating a game no other company dared to make. As such it would be a shame if that's all just a lie with that Guiness Book of World Records fundraiser being used as the butt of the joke.
But all we can do is watch from the sidelines and see if he caves to the same people that used him as a floor-rag or if he shows them how it's done by delivering both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen as the ultimate in PC Games without caving to Microsucks and their consoles.
Guess it all comes down to balls and spines (and not constantly delaying things just because you see a new shiny every single year; save that stuff for updates and patches). He needs a released product and fast. SQ42 should have been out by now, yet we don't even have so much as a tentative release date; even though that's just the linear (albeit with some branching) singleplayer campaign. Eventually you have to say "Enough, it's good; and if anything needs tweaking we can do it through updates/patches". It's how CDPR made Cyberpunk 2077 rise from the ashes with their 2.0 release (although the Edgerunners anime also helped tremendously) and now everybody is using it as a comparison tool (while laughing at Bethesda's comically bad Starfield).
So yeah, I really hope Chris is in the homestretch with SQ42 and that we don't get yet another 5 years of waiting. A 2024 Christmas release sounds good and with all his studios working together it should be possible; if only he keeps focus and doesn't lose sight of the prize: his own name and reputation. His name could become a true legend; but only if he can keep his focus and doesn't let himself get distracted by random bedsheets or other trivial things that aren't needed (at least not yet; due to "updates" and "content patches").

It would be interesting to see who owns the company that owns the building being leased to CIG... perhaps it's Roberts Leasing Space Industries maybe?![]()

Cosmetics? Isn't it rather jpegs?I honestly can't believe people are paying 000s for cosmetics now. Horse Armor? Hold me beer!
Maybe they indeed did run out of jpgsSo, the funding spike from yesterday has dropped off. Did the JPG factory run out of green paint?
I am honestly amazed they never transitioned ships to being NFTs.Maybe they indeed did run out of jpgs![]()
I am honestly amazed they never transitioned ships to being NFTs.
Maybe because they took the money and ran?Star Atlas already did it.
Not heard anything new about that one for a while.
Yeah, but why would they change to NFTs? Ships already work for all practical intents and purposes in the same way as NFTs. They allow the developer a speculative market for resale that incentivizes further purchases of digital items in their store as "all ships prices will go up". Many grey market resellers are not actual SC players at all and I suspect there is also quite a lot of money laundering probably going on. It´s like Star Atlas but without the negative stigma of crypto.I am honestly amazed they never transitioned ships to being NFTs.
NFTs would allow them to do all kinds of whale-baiting activities, like giving each ship a unique serial number. Imagine how much they could rake in from whales wanting serial number 000001 of the Idris, or any specific serial number.Yeah, but why would they change to NFTs?
