Repairing or refueling NPC ships

In some missions, or simply in some signal sources, we find NPC ships which need repair or refuel.

There's already a chance this generates a mission offer you can accept.

But if you are already in a mission defending such ships from pirate attacks, or finding them by pure coincidence, NPCs should, if you helped them:
  1. message you for helping out and say thank you
  2. increase your reputation with the associated faction
  3. actually start their ship engines and fly away

Not done one of those signal sources for a while but I seem to remember them doing item 3.

I haven't played in a while (fdev is piquing my interest with these new updates), but they used to say thanks and "I'll write a song about you when I get back to port". You'd then get a tiny trade bond and, I think, a tiny rep boost.

Definitely remember hearing the "I'll write a song about you when I get back to port" one too before (U17 or U16, not sure which). If they started giving you the cold shoulder, is definitely a bug. A message on the top right also shows what were the effects on the faction related to that ship (don't fully remember exactly what it says).

Also would be nice if you actually ran into someone on the port while walking on foot after doing one of these signals and the person actually calling you out and saying "Hey CMDR! Thanks again for saving my bacon!". No gameplay reward, just another thanks.
