GALNET - Titan Oya deploys a surprise fleet of Orthrus vessels - 04 APR 3310

Please note that the Pilots' Federation has been consistently ignorant regarding war strategy.

Titan Oya deploys a surprise fleet of Orthrus vessels

04 APR 3310

The Titan known as Oya appears to have deployed a large fleet of Orthrus vessels into star systems farther from their own territory breaking expected behaviour.

Analysts noted that the locations in which Orthrus vessels have been tracked didn’t appear to have any particular importance, instead suggesting that this may be a new tactic or possibly a simple panic response to the mounting pressure on its fleet.

Titan Oya has been steadily losing territory to large numbers of AX-equipped human forces. These forces, spearheaded by coalitions known as ‘AXI’ and ‘XSF’ have been reclaiming ground from the Titans successfully for some time and were pivotal in the recent successful campaigns against the now-destroyed Titans, Taranis and Leigong.

The Pilots’ Federation have issued an alert to all independent pilots for each of the star systems where Orthrus vessels have been detected:

“If Oya can be prevented from reclaiming territory, then it’s likely that this third Titan will fall within mere weeks. We encourage all pilots to track and eliminate any Orthrus vessels found patrolling these star systems before the Thargoids can move their assault forces into these footholds.”

Were it not already evident elsewhere here:
  • The word if in their statement is pertinent; many of those thirty Alert systems actually cannot be stopped directly this week, other than by destroying the Titan this week.
  • The Pilots' Federation plan should be considered a secondary plan at best, behind attempting to destroy the Titan this week.

I'm assuming the weight of actual orhtrus kills and the frequency of orthrus USS spawns hasn't been changed so the advice to kill orhtrus is as bad as the last time they told us to go kill othrus to stop the alerts shortly after we discovered sampling was the superior method.

It is possible we might be able to kill it off this week. It's got 7 control systems, the same as Taranis. IF we can beat it now, all those Alerts will cancel. So it's not out of the question, but it'll take a big push by everyone involved! If my math is right, it'll take something like 6 days to get it down.

So we destroy the Titans faster than FDEV would have liked and now they deploy different tactics to drag it out.
I hope we can get it down this week.

Yeah, in a better world the thargoids striking back would be an interesting turn of events that leads to some new gameplay or makes less relevant but still fun gameplay matter.

Here it's just swapping from one form of grind to another :S

With all due respect, I hope they don't temper with the progress by increasing the values to prevent us achieving our goal.

Galnet is controlled by FDev, Thargoids are controlled by FDev. What more direct and obvious hint do we need? This was a war on rails right from start, but here is our chance to derail it ;) .
FDEV are Thagoids 🤔 interesting theory.

Pls burn it down!

Sampling combat to combat sampling.
I like it.

When I saw all these alerts, my initial thought was that it was a very poorly timed April's Fool.

It's going to be an interesting week.

And this differs from every other system the Thargoids have attacked in the last 18 months ... how?

Taken in aggregate it's a really effective attack and the apparently random placement of the Alerts past 20 LY is one of the stronger ways they could have been placed given the "terrain" around Oya.

I just wish they'd give a BIT better explanations for how the goids pull their forces out of thin air :p
Especially in the case of an attack like this, which would have been:
- even more effective if they'd done it last week
- even more effective if they did it every week, or at least every few weeks
- even more effective if every Titan had done it rather than just Oya

If they had the capacity to do this sort of attack - both the range and the intensity - and furthermore retain the capacity to do this sort of attack even when severely pressed and already diverting substantial portions of their forces to attempt to defend a spire, why [1] has it taken them over a year to get around to using it once?

[1] Well, obviously because.

if nothing else it's a chance to knock a whole bunch of rings off it before its damage resistance shoots back up to maximum from all those uninhabited alerts turning into controls.

To be fair, we did know the Thargoids were going to react somehow!

I just wish they'd give a BIT better explanations for how the goids pull their forces out of thin air :p
"How do goids pull their forces out of thin air"

- They're a species thousands upon thousands of years older than us that exist in a state where they can travel between different dimensions effortlessly :p
