Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I feel like that stance is completely reasonable.

I feel like game right now is mostly good and mostly completed.

Fish and birds would be fantastic additions, but at least for me, they neither make nor break the game. Like game is not bad, nor incomplete until we get those.

So there's much to be positive about, we got so much that we asked for since launch of the game. I understand that some players are hyper-focused on certain missing aspects of the game to start finally enjoying it (flying birds, fish...) and I do feel sorry that no one gets what they wanted, but I don't think it's a bad thing to feel positive or optimistic about this game.

It's a best zoo game we ever got. Is ZT Marine Mania better than Planet Zoo because it has fully aquatic animals? Does the quality of the game rests solely on such few pillars?

For me Planet Zoo is such a massive step-up to any zoo/park management game made to this day, and then so are the DLCs to the base game. There's so much to be positive about
Yeah that’s how I feel, this is obviously the greatest zoo game of all time. Hands down. Obviously, like the meme above stated, there is a ton of potential left for the game.

If there is one thing I have obviously made my case on and disagree with others too, the lack of HABITAT (I can honestly live without flying birds at this point) birds absolutely kills me. It really does affect my enjoyment of the game. In the Unpopular opinion threads I mentioned how NA has no birds at all for me to use, and even just a 100% “clone” like the American Flamingo could go a long way. Having no native birds for my continent makes me sad, and unlike ZT2 this game doesn’t have the excuse of being limited by technology. I already know we can have groundbirds like the peacock, flamingo, and ostrich. Those are all in base game, released day 1. We would later get swans, penguins, other ratites, and the crane. So I also know if Frontier tries they can make amazing birds! The swan made me feel so happy, and on top of the Oceania pack last year was the best year for bird nerds in Planet Zoo history!

So I know Frontier can do amazing things, I know they can make me feel like they see me and my interests. I am a paying customer like you all are, I have bought every dlc and joined the forums to engage in the community and provide direct feedback. I know Frontier can do amazing things! So I’m trying to hope Frontier hears us and really go out with a bang! I know they can (hope they can), even despite some of the setbacks. I really hope we get some new feathery friends to fill some of the holes in the roster. I really hope we don’t end 2023 and 2024 with the same 11 birds.

Oh my goodness, this is so much how I feel as well.

My stance on flying/exhibit birds can be summed up like this (and all of this is just my opinion of course, even if it reads like fact):

Planet Zoo is the best zoo simulation game we've ever gotten, no comparison, even with ZT and ZT2. But without those flying, medium and smaller sized birds - the parrots, the birds of prey and so forth - I cannot ever feel like my zoos are "completely" complete. It's something no other zoo game that's gotten everything else right has been able to do - realizing that Zoo Tycoon 2013/xbox edition had flying birds, but it was also lacking in so many other areas.

Meaning that there's always a possibility that some zoo game could come along and match what PZ's done and then add in those birds as well. If PZ had added in those types of birds, the game would have been on such a level that I wouldn't even have to think about the possibility of a better zoo game, because the concept of a "complete" zoo would have already been acheived. I could be happy playing PZ for the rest of my life. Instead, there will always be that possibility that something could outdo it.

It's almost a shame in a way, because otherwise, Planet Zoo is just so good, that it is lacking one part of a zoo that could make it not only the best like it is now, but the best of all time even years down the road. When you become the best, don't just stop there, be even better, unmatchable.

Anyways, that's all about flying/exhibit birds. Recognizing that the habitat bird situation isn't all that great either. But mammal wise? I've said for a long while now, the mammal roster is outstanding and the best mammal roster a zoo game has ever fronted. Even without adding anything else at all. But again, going from the best to even better; that's why there's such a clamor for another New World Monkey or two; that's why the continued push for more Latin American animals since all of the other continents have a good representation compartively to their fauna options...in truth that's why there's even want of a few clone type of animals of the more iconic animals, just so we'd have a second option.

Sure there's nostalgia for certain zoo animals, the "less than a handful" of ABC mammals left, but really, think about it, when the game came out nearly 4 and a half years ago, did we ever really think we'd be to the point that the Coati, Muskox, Tree Kangaroo and Baboon would be in the upper echelons of prominent animals missing from the game? Sure, maybe for a handful of people, but the vast majority, not at all. As I've said before, at that point we were more concerned about the Kangaroo, Penguin and Meerkat sized holes in the roster.

Anyone can disagree with all this and that's fine, it's just an opinion, but there's no sense in trying to convince me otherwise. Frontier has done phenomenal on ther mammal roster choices and even if Eurasia had been the last pack, the only thing I'd really lament not getting mammal-wise is a second New World Primate.

I gave up on flying birds as soon as we got the butterflies, and I never expected fish. It blows my mind that either of them is even still up for discussion. I also think my recent posts have been in alignment with what you're saying; the fact that I'm more than ready for support to end now because at this point it's impossible for me to get exactly what I want anyway, unless they pull a very specific hat trick.

I'm pretty happy with the game. I do agree that there are plenty of missed opportunities and more than a few poor decisions made regarding the animal roster specifically (and some scenery too) but over-all it's like you say, this is a massive improvement on older zoo games. It's a cornered market, too; they could have given us something much worse and gotten away with it because there's really no competition for this genre.

I'm looking forward to the final DLC, whatever form it takes. My expectations are low, not because Frontier has necessarily disappointed me before (they have, but they've pleased me far more often) but because we all know the state they're in at the moment. I'd like to believe we'll get a solid send-off with a little more than we're used to a la 'Planet Coaster', and prior to the layoffs, the console edition, and JWE2's lackluster latest DLC I might have been confident in that belief, but not anymore. I'm anticipating something bog-standard at best. That isn't to say I think the quality will be lacking, but rather the content itself. Hopefully I'll be wrong, but IMO it's better to be pleasantly surprised than to get your hopes up and disappoint yourself later. I suppose the other thing for me to consider is that even if it is a higher-quality DLC with some unique animals in it, there's a chance I'll be disappointed anyway, because a lot of the animals a lot of folks here desperately want aren't anything special to me.

I would love the white faced saki! I saw them recently in zoo Planckendael where they are actually kept in an outdoor Walkthrough enclosure together with lion Tamarins. Off course they have a shelter with heathing... First time I saw them not kept in a tropical house. But really these guys are so Fun to look at.
I’d like to have them too, they’re a good little species.

Also, storytime: my husband was away in Singapore for work last week and of course went to the zoo over his weekend. He sent me a text that he’d “found this ugly thing… I think it’s a sloth? It’s creeping me out.” I asked for a photo and he sent a gorgeous photo of a male Saki monkey and his mate.

You know, I had this random thought just now while looking at Dr Burrito's new thread about the front end globe;

I hope that if they ever do a sequel, they do away with the globe altogether. I'd rather just pick a blank, flat map without even any foliage on it and go from there. Sure, let us choose a biome to set the aesthetic, but since every bit of foliage is available from the start anyway there's really no use in letting us pick an exact location on a map since so much of it is completely wrong anyway (even if the biome is represented correctly, in most places the preset weather and temperature range is frequently wildly incorrect). The issue could easily be mitigated by removing that option entirely.

E.g. I want to build a temperate European zoo. I would just pick the temperate map, and then decorate it accordingly. I want to build a tropical Asian zoo, I pick a tropical map, and decorate it accordingly. Simple.

I mean yeah that probably would be better. Although i gotta say i never really saw it as a big problem, i just pick the map that fits best for the kind of zoo/setting i have in mind a go from there regardless of where its on the globe.

But im pretty sure they would keep the globe thing for a PZ2. Having a big globe full of zoos on the start screen does tie in really well into the PLANET zoo thing

So, in the past DLCs for Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Frontier tied it to an existing IP for the larger pack. Yes I recognize JWE is an already existing billboard for the series, but even the final pack was focused on the first movie as a tie in. What do you think could be the theme/ tie in for this pack. Do you think they will actually get a zoo to sponsor it?

Some famous zoo? Or maybe is a generic zoo pack because i think it would be weird to just focus on one zoo when your player base is from all around the world. Although maybe something like the San Diego Safari Park or smth that is worldwide famous would work.

Oh or maybe Animal Kingdom. That one is worldwide famous and is a Disney brand.

Who knows what theyre gonna do. Personally i find it rather unlikely for them to do a colab with a famous zoo like san diego or berlin.
I mean thats still a very different thing from the return to jp and world fair themes of JWE and PCs last packs

I don’t care about the globe, once my zoo is started it’s irrelevant anyway.

But I do feel that the lack of flexibility in maps has been an enormous missed opportunity in the game’s development.

For me it represents a huge limitation on our creativity.

We can’t have snow on the ground when it’s not actively snowing except on the tundra map. We can’t choose from a variety of colours of grass, sand, rock and soil.

We don’t have a single simple map with no visible hills or mountains.

I still find all this very frustrating and limiting on what I can do.

Yeah agree i wish we had some more down to earth map skirt that dont look so.. idk even now how to descripe it. Extreme? Fantastical maybe?

Hey y'all, Quell here. Don't worry, this isn't long term, I just needed some help regarding the gift shops. I'm kinda fed up with them because every time I open my zoo, guests are "trapped" inside, and honestly, while funny at first, it's kinda annoying to hear their cries for help while building.

Has this been acknowledged? Because if not, then it should. It kinda kills the gift shops for me, and I haven't been able to truly enjoy them
 HE'S RETURNED. THE CHOSEN ONE

Im actully really not picky when it comes to the actual species, i just want the niches filled.
Like i really want a baboon, dont mind if its hamadryas or gelada
I really want 1 or 2 larger monkeys for SA, dont really mind if its spider, howler, saki or wooly
And i really like atleast 1 classic monkey for africa and india, could be grey langur or lion tailed and guereza, diana, patas
You get the idea :D

Looks like JWE2 already has their outsource_lqa updated again.

And the number of players in-game for Planet Zoo seems to be the highest since January. I guess it is because of the sale
