GALNET - Prototype Frame Shift Drive almost production ready, competitor sceptical - 04 APR 3310

Sounds interesting🙃 Optimized mass of 665 tons for class 5 means jumprange is a little better than D-rated (635 tons) and a little worse than normal C-rated (700 tons). From what I read it'll make for a good interceptor-type build for bounty hunting, PvP (big for upcoming powerplay 2.0, maybe?), piracy; not so good for cruiser-type builds that need to travel long ways and operate independently.

I'd be tempted to go for the Dolphin with its broken heat mechanics. But I think the instability will be an issue with long boosts - it's certainly balanced to be most useful for short bursts.
Nah, was pretty easy to maintain rough direction on things.... the big one instead is not overshooting... disabling doesn't drop you back to normal instantly, it rolls down. Gonna take some practice to find that "when to zero throttle" moment like usual SC racing.

My T7 with nothing but fuel tanks and heatsinks made it out past one million Ls in about 6 minutes before exploding due to lack of fuel. Heat was around 2500%. Video here in about 10m...
Again, mandatory :D :

Could depend on ship - I found the CM3 was way off target pretty fast (it's also harder to get through the Titan in a CM3 than other ships). Maybe that rules out the Dolph for Hutton as well 🤔

Only one way to find out :D

I think this FSD absolutely needs a short tutorial to pop in, to tell people what it is, what to press, and to only use it in short bursts. It's all too easy to misuse.

Rather interesting though, but I think it needs some more tuning. Still, after trying it out on a Courier and a Cutter, I've fit it on my Odyssey mission runners (Courier and Cobra), even in its current state. Definitely not a drive for exploration though. Even more so because it can't be engineered - I wonder why.

Well it can work the other way if your watching your radar and get away from them before interdiction.

You could probably escape a Mur-Der-Lance simply because it'll run its tank dry in about 3 seconds if it tries to catch you with the boost🙃

Something tells me that Kraits, Cutters with extra fuel tanks and fuel scoops will become very popular with gankers in a few days🤪

And fuel rats might have a peak season coming😉

Trying to figure out the intended use case.
They have given us the ability to travel really fast in-system because.. there's something out there for us to find...

That said, this does mean you can escape gankers or PvP opponents; likewise if someone else has one to boost into range to attack you then they need to compromise on their combat loadout, which would even up the resulting fight a bit?

I spend 99% of my time in open, but with constant buffs to ganks, how C&P is handled and lack of effective anti gank features it was becoming less and less enjoyable.

This may just be a final straw.
Yep joking aside, i have a few ships that this module will have a lot of fun with but am i ever going to use this thing seriously? Nope, i really cant see a use for it outside of having a bit of fun.

The new FSD isn't recognized by engineers as a FSD drive for purposes of engineering, no.
Yeah, and I wonder if this is due to a bug or if it's a design decision. I'd be inclined to go with the former though.
And hey, if it is a bugged release, then that would be history repeating itself: the previous time when Frontier released a new FSD-related module, the Guardian FSD booster, it was at first even more bugged, to the point of rendering your ship unable to jump :D
