What an insult to all those cmdrs that slogged for the alien drive parts to deliver to achillies (Heel) - i lost count of my own demises to thargoids whilst trying to collect these drive parts, only managed to get about 4 or so. Absolutely millions spent in rebuys, all so we ended up being frame "shafted" by this snake oil peddling company to produce something i doubt has been tested, i hope this is real game play and is behaving as intended, well it needs a lot more work on it as yet.
I don't know, I quite like it. Yes, the range is VERY poor, it overheats like nobody's business, it guzzles fuel like an alcoholic the drinks at a party, AND the controls are wonky, BUT... THE SPEED AND ACCELERATION. INCREDIBLE. Even a 3-second burst is enough to eat up quite some distance.
The lack of range can be remedied by a Guardian FSD booster (matter of fact, TODAY I finally overcame my laziness and unlocked it!). My combat corvette, whose range was a measly 7.17 light years, now can jump 17.67 light years, thanks to a class 5 FSD booster. I do have a heat sink launcher with five charges equipped, so I can, if need be, use the boost a little longer.
Let's face it, an FSD with much better range, lower heat, great control AND that insane acceleration and speed would have made pretty much all other drives obsolete. As it is, it's a trade-off -- but for my combat ships, this is a fun device that greatly facilitates getting from one massacre site to the next...
